Hi All,

I'm a total newbie with AV equipment. Would the kind sifus here please help me choose a Home Theater system? icon_question.gif

I've recently bought a 46" LED TV and have pre-ordered a Dune Prime Media Player 3.0 (expect to get it only in December or early next year). I think I now need a receiver and speakers to complement the TV and the BD/Media player. Would appreciate all recommendations on what else I need.

The main use for the system would be to watch Astro and movies (50:50).. and occationally play games on.. (only Wii for now)

As I travel frequently, can you please advise on which country would I be able to buy the receiver cheapest? (receiver as I can then put it in my carry on luggage with out attracting Custom attention)

My total budget would be in the region of 3k+ for the receiver and speakers. I don't intend to upgrade later - as after spending a bomb on the TV and new house I think I'll be repaying my hutang for the next few years (hence the modest budget of 3k+) cry.gif and doubt I'll have anymore money in the future to upgrade.

Any of your kind advise would be a great help to me. many thanks in advance.

First of all, if you have a look at the size of the receiver and weight, you will reliase it's not possible to put in your carry on luggage. Same goes to the speaker. The best you can do is to drive down to Singapore and buy one back. As for your budget of RM3k, very difficult to get even an entry level system which will cost at least RM6k. One option is to get the receiver and 2 front speakers (bookshelf type) + center speaker first. Then add the subwoofer and a pair of floor stander as front then move the bookshelf to surround. Entry level receiver will cost around RM2k+ and a pair of bookshelf around RM700.

Thank you for the suggestions... Will check out Desa Home Theater.. I think I saw the same advert in the Star today.

Just goes to show what a newbie I am. blush.gif I thought that if I threw the box away and stick only the receiver in my carry on luggage with almost nothing else, it might just fit. You're right, I am sure the speakers won't fit.. Looks I might have to up my budget then... sigh.. poor man trying to buy expensive stuff...

Just thought I could save a few $$$ by going to Singapore to buy it..

Would appreciate further suggestions if any.
