Hi i'm thinking of adding Razer Megalodon to my gaming gear - My mom is scolding me coz everynight i play games with my Razor Mako speaker - its too loud even with 30% of the speaker level especially late night - so i plan to use Megalodon during late night gaming session..

can i have your honest review/opinion pls and can someone recommend me where is the cheapest place to get one?? I know pcfair just passed..

since u use speakers already, i guess directional sound isnt important at all for u.
so why waste money get a 7.1 headset when u wont fully utilize it?
*
Actually i love using Mako for Dota, movie and music (85% of my computer usage) and planning to use get Megalodon for FPS - sound of gunshoots in the middle of the night is not so pleasant =p

for first person shooter i prefer headphones (more focus) but for movies and music i prefer Mako (need less concentration and i watch series and movies with my bro and gf at times), Dota is stereo - so i prefer to use Mako

Was reading the previous threads, i just wonder why didnt u get a Megalodon?

J.sun i read some threads u wanna sell yr megalodon after getting mako why is that so? anything that u didnt like? i wanna be sure before making a commitment

i work near lowyat - so any hint which shop sells the cheapest megalodon and best service for RMA just in case

im just curious hmm.gif

wow.. rich kid ^^ hehe.... u buy from pc fair rite? how's mako?
*
not rich la money comes my own pocket from working.. could not afford it when i was studying

i spend a lot time in front of the pc about 3-4 hours (longer on weekends) everyday either gaming, surfing, skype, movies or working, more the time i spend in my car (which cost $$ every month for downpayment)

so i spend more than the time in my car, my rationale is if i spend on quality stuff for things i used often in the long term it would be a good investment.

I believe in 2 keys things in order to enjoy pc usage - the monitor (visual) and speakers (sound)

hence i invest on good quality and performance on product which i use everyday for years.

I love my Mako, the sweetspot and soundstage is out of this world provided if the source is good. i tested it using these

http://sinan.ussakli.net/basstest/

the outcome is awesome especially the THX Moo Cow - Mako users are encouraged to test its THX capabilities

too bad that most movies i download produce a low quality sound (lack of dolby or thx sound effects) due to the restrain in the file size. wink.gif
however for music (which i love to hear during surfing) and gaming is extraodinary!
My friends who came to my house to check out my speakers and were truly impressed rclxm9.gif

one more thing - i love the control pod, most ppl complain that its not sensitive but actually u must read the instruction clearly. now i find it ease to use - i feel megalodon should incoporate that touch feel pod instead

Hey, i just came back from Lowyat yesterday, i went to check out Megalodon and found that the cheapest was RM525 at C-Zone and along the way i saw bundle of Razer Mamba and Goliathus selling for 439 (basically 390 for Mamba and 49 for Goliathus) at all IT.

Looking at the Mamba bundle and Megalodon i somehow felt that i needed to get the Mamba at lower price that PC Fair with a free mousepad. So i bought it, yet to use it - left it for charging when i left for work. now i can pass my deathadder to my brother

The reason i bought mamba is that im using 24" LCD, it take a bit too long for my 1800 dpi DA to cross one end to another and i like the fact that its being wireless so i dont need to pull my cable all the time

Another reason is that i saw a 5.1 USB sound card (i use laptop for gaming) for RM220 by creative and thinking of purchasing Roccat Kave (rm 339) true 5.1 instead to pair it. But i have to defer that to another time as i spent too much $$ on Mako and Mamba this month

Megalodon is too expensive and it virtual surround sound which having read all the review and including everdying's i felt that it a bit steep for a virtual headphone. i thought of G35 (RM379) but once i tried it on - i didnt like the feeling- I have a Big Head (both lol) therefore comfort is important to me when gaming. Finally review on the next states that both G35 and Megalodon virtual surround sound may not be compatible to all games which is a waste =(

So care to add me Admin as a Razer user (Razer Mako and Razer Mamba)

lets knock some sense in here shall we tongue.gif
RM220 for creative soundcard + RM339 for roccat kove = RM559.
Megalodon = RM519 PC Fair - and probably cheaper elsewhere.

as for roccat kove, imo its old tech made to look brand new again.
having 3 speakers in each ear for headphones has been around for awhile, but u dont find many ppl using them do u?

there are also other virtual headsets out there apart from logitech that alot of ppl use, like steelseries...but thats another thread.
*
As u said in your own review i believe that u felt that the sound was hollow and fake.

so i feel it bettter to use a proper 5.1. channel speakers to reproduce a better sound (i never claim its new tech).

on top of that creative usb card can be transferred and used on my future proper CPU next time and/or used on my Mako now to improve the sound effects.. USB card supports Dolby Surround unlike Megalodon (no dolby support) so i feel it will be an added value on my Mako and future Headphones (of my choice). Mako cant use Megalodon's soundcard (waste).

So $40 more for more usage and better sounds on BOTH my headphone and Mako will justify my opinion and thoughts. Real is better than virtual imo. cool2.gif

yea, its hollow sounding in 7.1 mode.
but in stereo mode it does pretty good for music etc.

also 5.1 true headsets arent known for their great sound quality, not sure of the roccat, but it applies to whatever that has come previously.
*
Well i prefer to hear music on my Mako, but reviews of Roccat has been favourable than Megalodon. Please read all reviews complied from the internet below.

Roccat Kave

http://www.testseek.com/computers/pc-heads...1f0e5c3bbd.html

video review

www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIK5SekNpbY

Roccat Megalodon

http://www.testseek.com/computers/pc-heads...b6fdfe2638.html

As i said true is better than virtual (fake) and non compliance with games. Not all games with 5.1 or 7.1 supports virtual (see reviews above) but all game with 5.1 or 7.1 support True sounds - i dont wanna waste money on things that will not offer me certainty in performance. If i want stereo i prefer Mako to play Music or Dota - FPS better on Surround whistling.gif

Btw Roccat has Vibration effects on it Headphone similar to Head Massage - another added bonus. see

http://forum.novatech.co.uk/showthread.php?t=12270

i hope u can see why im thinkin of buying roccat.

anyhow i have a feeling that Razer will come out with a new 5.1. soon to replace barracuda

just tested my Mamba, absolutely love the glide (better than DA) so smooth and effortless.. thumbup.gif

I've updated my firmware and driver as recommended however i found that the mouse jitter when i turn my Mako volume up.. i was testing the bundle Goliathus (Bundle together with mouse , smallest size) when this happened.. i guess the downfiring speakers put a bit more vibration to my table.. blink.gif

Manage to reduce it when i replace my Goliathus with Everglide Titan (a bigger sizemouse pad). i guess it acts as cushion in reducing the Shockwave.. it now doesnt jitter if i listen to regular volume but it will jitter a bit when i go up 50% of the volume (still acceptable to me as i dont blast my speakers when gaming)..

So far i've enjoyed my Mamba, even on wired mode it felt much smoother than DA.. maybe its me but when i use 1800dpi on my DA i felt its more slower compared to 1800dpi on my Mamba.. in fact i have to reduce my Dpi to 1600 to for my best perfomance as opposed to 1800 on my DA.. No regrets in purhasing Mamba, will do it again if i have the opportunity.

so i guess my bro getting my DA and Goliathus as Christmas present from me laugh.gif

My only concern to all Mamba users is that only 6months warranty given to its rechargeable batter.. as we all know, rechargeable batteries will lose its capacity in time and render useless in less than 2 years on continued use.. Wonder is there anyway or where can i purchase additional batteries?? if not we Mamba users will have to use the wired mode all the time in the future.. icon_question.gif
