shahnakal,

What ROM image did you root your hero with? If it was the modaco hero ROM image, it will automatically use the SD card *IF* you partition it properly with a win32 partition and an ext2 partition (as the modaco ROM supports automatic apps2sd).

To check if you used the modaco ROM or not, check under home -> menu -> setting ->about screen. It will say modaco somewhere on that screen.

If so, then all you need to do is partition your SD card into two.

Check the ROM version first, and let us know.

Go to setting-> SD Card and phone storage

if there a info on secondary storage . you are on it (app2sd). if not. you will have to partition your sd manually.

simple enough, but do a backup is a MUST

if on windows, use software like Partition Magic. take out your SD card (unmount first) and put in memory card reader.
1. backup
2. resize accordingly (FAT32, EXT3, linux-swap(optional)
3. put your sd card back to your HERO.
4. Power on and check the settings above

if on linux (like me), install gparted. connect to usb cable.
1. backup
2. mount sd on phone first to be recognized
3. launch gparted
4. unmount first
5. resize accordingly
6. apply and reboot.

Then it looks like you're all set, you just need to partition your SD card (assuming you haven't already got it partitioned, see sicksand's post above on how to check for "secondary storage" in the settings).

You can use a PC to partition your SDCARD into two as sicksand mentioned above, or if you want to do it in your phone itself, you can do it if you have amon-ra's recovery image (if you have modaco most likely you will also have this recovery image):

* power off
* press home + power to switch power on
* A menu in green text will appear, this is the amon-ra recovery image.
* Scroll down with the trackball to "Part SD: fat32+ext2+swap" and press the trackball.
* Scroll up to "reboot system now" and press the trackball.

Done! First time you reboot, apps2sd should kick in and setup/move the second partition with your apps. You can then copy back your data into the SDcard.

Doing it on the PC gives you better control of the sizing, etc.

Actually, even the step 4 is not compulsory for you smile.gif But if you do step 4, it will speed up your Hero anyway so there's no harm happy.gif

IF you skip step 4, do the step 5 only until ext3 (if you don't upgrade the kernel, it will not have support for ext4. So only ext3 can be used)

Make your pick happy.gif

vexus, why magic partition? @_@
Waste money using that application when you can do it with free stuffs~ biggrin.gif

Yes, by right u can flash it without a wipe smile.gif But i recommend you do a "final" wipe though..so after this u will be in the same sync as my hero too happy.gif then in the future only, you don't have to wipe anymore if u follow my guide.."unless i ask to wipe" haha..

Why did you do the "Part SD: fat32+ext2+swap"?
You will need to wipe your SD card at least once for upgrading. That's for sure. But it will be worth it. Backup all your files on your computer first.

Don't do the "Part SD: fat32+ext2+swap". Swap decreases your SD card life and if using teknolosigst kernel, you don't need swap at all happy.gif
