Hi all,

I just bought a N97 yesterday. From what I can tell it's an official Avaxx set. Bought it from authorized store (KTS Telecommunications). Question is, why is it only detecting V12.0.026 as the last latest release when Nokia says the latest is V20.0.019?

Don't worry about this. You can always update the firmware in any Nokia Authorise service centre and it's free smile.gif

Yeah, I realized. The shop told me to go back to the shop for upgrade. Problem is, shop is closed today and I dun want to wait until next week. I am usually at work from 9-6 on Mon to Fri and by the time I get to the shop, shop most likely already closed.

Ok, took phone to Nokia center in Sunway Pyramid and they upgraded it to v20 for me. Question now is, will I have to do the same thing when v21 comes out?

You can update through Ovi Suite or NSU.

But if you afraid of losing your data, go Nokia center to update it again (if the nokia centre are aware of v21 firmware)
*
I would have done it myself. Problem is, my N97 is a 0586297 Avaxx set. For some reason this version of N97 cannot update to v20 using OTA and I had to let a Nokia center update it. Maximum it would detect is v12. Now I worry that I cannot update to v21 using OTA and have to send to Nokia Center again. And the Sunway Nokia center closing down their service department, say closest shopping complex one is now 1U. The Nokia center in Klang not open on Sundays.

Original Avaxx N97, 0586297, cannot update :/

Looks like this leaves me no choice. Will change Product code to APAC Malaysia once I get home.

Came home, run NSS to check the phone's code.

Apparently it's already been changed to APAC Malaysia code by technician yesterday.

Ran NSU again. This time v21 shows up thumbup.gif

Installed V21, hard reset then format Mass storage.

Speed very fast at first.

Then I set up my mailbox, install updates, install Palringo and install Opera 10 beta.

Seems like slow down after that hmm.gif

ok this is weird, after i update to v21, its so lag and the theme is quite weird...anyone encounter the same prob ?
gosh i really hate the black theme !!!
*
I actually thought it was a major improvement over the boring looking theme that came with the V11 version of my firmware tongue.gif

But lag, yeah, noticably more, particularly when have dialog boxes. The Yes/No buttons come out before the message. Apart from that, so far okay.

0586297 is disaster code.... same bro.... we both suffer... and yes.. NCC far far away from my place...

i still stuck in V1.2...

so "happy"
*
I feel both your pain, since my phone also initially 0586297 as well.

If you want to change the code, you can do it, but you void your warranty if your new code is not 0576131 (which is the new N97 code).

Because when my 0586297 set cannot upgrade and I send to Sunway NCC, the technician just change the code to the new one. He was even nice enough to not change it back (downloaded NSS and checked to see what's wrong when I got pissed off after the phone refused to update OTA. Strangely, the phone can update over NSU, but throughout the update PC keeps warning of hardware installation fail for some reason).

As for earlier question that Sunway NCC closing down, yeah, that's what I heard one of the salesperson there told me. The store will still be running, but the NCC no more.

Btw, when I go to device updates screen, press option and then Server Profiles, it shows no server profiles. Is this normal?

i tot it was like this? hmm.gif

Backspace+Space+Shift+Power is correct. I know it worked because it brought the country selection back up and after that, all my installed software were gone (this is why I keep a old 1GB MicroSDHC with the installers for the programs I need on the phone as well. Some people will think I'm crazy because the phone already has 32GB mass storage, but what if you need to format that as well? icon_rolleyes.gif )

how come jaf cannot change your product code?
a did it edi...juz make sure u follow the step correctly
are u saying it cant change the code because there was no pop up msg
saying DONE?
dude after u run it and change the code
run it back to check wheter its the same code u type in icon_rolleyes.gif
*
Agreed. According to the instructions online, there is no confirmation that the product code has changed. Only way you'll find out is to either restart NSS and see if the code it reads is the new code you keyed in, or quit NSS, run NSU and see if the V21 update is now offered.

Just bring it, it should be fine even if the only thing on it is a dealer cop. For me they didn't even ask for warranty. They just key in the entry to their computer, take and then told me to come back in two hours.

cannot wait lah~~~~~i wan change my product code~still stuck in v12!!
which code is better!?my original code is 0576199 black can read n write chinese.
anycode almost same with 0576199!?
*
Bro, the 0576 codes can update to V21. Only 0586 codes cannot. If you cannot update OTA, try using NSU for PC.

I think you meant your code is 0586199. According to this page, Code for black v20 capable N97 is 0576119. So yeah. If your's is a 0586199, change it to 0576119. If it's a 0586297, change it to 0576131.

I think the new firmware also can read and write Chinese, saw chinese input method in the text entry menu.

Error says download failed. Bad internet connection? If you're using wireless, plug LAN cable into router during update.

Also, try hard resetting the phone before update, use Nokia Software Updater on a XP machine, and try updating with the phone off.

And if you changed your code, make sure the PC code is correct. Can check code using Nemesis Suite.
Black: 0576119
White: 0576131

Earlier one member say his N97's code is 0576199, which is no such code. Luckily the code doesn't correspond to another phone, or else sure bricked when update. Imagine accidentally flashing in E72 firmware into N97 because of error in product code.

So far I using Palringo. It's a XMPP based client and you need a free XMPP account from them, but it offers multi-third-party client capability. Very useful since by segregation I have like one account on 6 different services (MSN, AOL, ICQ, Y!, GTalk, Facebook).
