Since this is the number one forum in Malaysia, are there any career opportunities in the field of reverse code engineering in Malaysia?

There are no proper job being a reverse engineer in software coding.

It can only be a showcase for your expertise in software programming. Sometimes some company need to reverse engineer other people's product but they won't advertise it as requirement. You just need to apply for normal coder job.

If you do some GREAT RE work, you can add it in your resume or your work online. Interested company will contact you. Mostly will be project based only.

There are carriers in reverse engineering in Malaysia just not with local MNC's. There are AV and security companies which look for people with an RE background. Simple example F-Secure. They had a vacancy open for Malware analyst afew months back and some of the requirements were x86 assembly and reverse engineering skills.

Some security companies or companies with a serious security department sometimes look at this criteria although they do not state it. It simply goes to show that you have a deep understanding of the computer system (If you state that you can RE in your resume, better not BS when you get asked questions hehehe). Gives you an edge over your normal computer grad looking to start in the security field smile.gif

I'm partly doing reverse engineering (not my main job, but is required now & then), as well as partly doing automated system to facilitate reverse engineering (my main job).

And reverse engineering alone is a very wide range of topic for learning. Two RE might not do (and know) the same thing.

Wow, many responses @taitianhin. It's not about the money, of course. I've been doing RCE (Reverse Code Engineering) for fun, and sometimes programming just to understand things. @crapp0, I agree with that. Anyone familiar with China Unpack? @dstl1128, cool! @MyRedz, I was actually interested in hardware at first, but it's expensive. As for the internet, I did have some intentions of becoming some sort of elite hacker, but not having a 24-hour connection and hearing the term 'scriptkiddie' made me rethink it, not to mention the risk of getting caught by the authorities... Bummer."

Reversing it for the sake of neutralizing the virus, no problem perhaps.
But just for the development, sigh! You have got a better things to do
like start learning a programming seriously in any tutorial site.

TS, there is RE contest since 2014 (a year after your last update), it is called Flare-On Challenge.
Last year, got six (6) Malaysians finished the challenges (not me, of course).

Besides what @KLKS said about malware analysis (he is a fast reverse-engineer himself), there is also RE like protocol RE (use Wireshark ,etc), and not just software vulnerability, but also hardware vulnerability research.

I am still new to reverse-engineering, but I am proud for having done a few reversing tools like hexdump, exedump, colordump (file color visualizer) and disasm based on Zydis.

Thanks, haha! This is really old, but I still appreciate it. I still read about reverse engineering stuff from time to time.
