Help needed from all the sifus out there. This is my first HD TV set so do bear with me. All this while have been using a 21" CRT.

I'm trying to use my DVD/HDD recorder (LG RH387H) connected to my Panasonic THP-42X10K, and playing my DVDs, and upscale via the internal FullHD upscaler. However, when I switch to the HDMI input, all I see is a black screen with a white bar in the middle. No matter what I do I can't seem to get an image via HDMI.

Now watching LOTR: Extended edition via S-video Haven't tested on component yet, but should be fine. Just having problems with the HDMI bit.

Another question, with the internal upscaler, is it possible say to upscale an Astro image (poor source, I know) for display on the TV?

mpyw: as far as I know, the HDMI output is enabled by default. I can't find any option to enable/disable the output.

azbro: Sounds like you have the same unit. Will try out the rest of page 11 tonight. But there's another bug: when I press Res (the output resolution button), what comes out is the timeshift feature, instead of resolution menu. Maybe that bug's the one that is screwing up the HDMI output?

For what it's worth, I've done a factory reset of the machine (short of formatting the HDD). The RES/timeshift bug is still there.

Last night I cabut the HDMI cable, cabut the S-video & audio from the jacks at the back, cabut AC cord, counted to 30, replugged HDMI cable, AC cord, and turned it on. Waited for it to initialise, pressed stop on the console for 10 seconds and added another 10 seconds for good measure. Turned off the unit, re-connected the HDMI cable and turned everything on again. Switched to HDMI & hey presto! There's still no image.

I then reconnected the S-video cable, switched to S-video source and fiddled with the RES button. Out pops the Timeshift again.

Admittedly I didn't print out your instructions yesterday, so I might have missed a crucial step or two. Will try again tonight.

I might buy a new HDMI cable today, just to check it out. I still don't think it's the cable, however.

Worst comes to worst, I'll need to buy a new Blu-ray player with backwards compatibility for DVD & upscaling capabilities. Mo money down the drain.. iskk..

No luck, Azbro. Tried your fix, but the HDMI output & RES swapping with timeshift problem is still there.

Guess I'll have to put my Hi-def dreams on hold for now, while I find some time to try and get the LG DVD/HDD recorder fixed.
