Geocities is closing down forever on 26 October 2009.

If you have anything on Geocities you MUST save it NOW or permanently lose it.

Please pass this on to anyone that may not know Geocities is permanently being closed.

For anyone needing to save files:

Go to your Geocities file manager. Right click "View" for the file you want to save. Click "Save link as ..."

FYI you can no longer get to Geocities through the Yahoo interface. You must go to http://geocities.yahoo.com/gcp/home.php and navigate to your file manager from there.

Geocities huh..what a nostalgic name to me.

It had been at least 10 years that I never hear this name anymore.

So why is it closing down?

They are closing down because the amount of users are dropping?

I guess Web 2.0 and the age of blogs proved too much for Geocities to survive...

Added on October 26, 2009, 6:52 pmI have dedicated a short blog post to Geocities here at http://bit.ly/rn146

All those names sound so "1995" to me..I guess that those were first things that I learned when I start to use computer and internet.. biggrin.gif

Definitely felt nostalgic when thinking it back...old times.. cry.gif

Just asking, they are just closing all the servers or killing only the index files?

Because, this site:
http://www.withinwindows.com/

Shows that GeoCites is closing down but when you visit one of the bloggers directory,
http://www.withinwindows.com/wp-content/th...swithin/images/

laugh.gif Its so funny, either the guy is pulling a fast one or really its gone.

UPDATE: hmm http://www.withinwindows.com/wp-login.php

Ok, I am not lover too but GeoCites are hosted on their very speedy servers, Yahoo is one of the largest searching company, so hosting there is a good idea but I never thought of it laugh.gif

No offence but prior to 2000, only Geocities and Xoom servers were fast enough for me. The rest were quite slow.

3 more hours to 27th October in the US sad.gif
