Yes, I tried it already. Work smoothly and there's no extra charge by either party, yet.  biggrin.gif

For the case of Genting such as First World Hotel, Resort Hotel and Theme Park Hotel, only exact amount will be charged. The minimum balance to maintain for Kawanku Savings Account is RM1. Let say the room at First World Hotel is RM200 for two nights, you need to have at least RM201 in your savings account to let the payment to go through. So basically, you just need to check what kind of Maybank account you are holding and what is the minimum balance to maintain your account.

However, it works a bit differently for other hotel booking. First World Hotel at Genting doesn't need extra deposit from us when checking in but most other hotels require us to put a few hundred Ringgit more.

Thanks bro for the enlightenment. Mine is just a normal savings account, however, no big issue, as it's the same since there will be no holding of funds from my account =)

For debit card, let's say you are just making a reservation. Will they need to charge the full amount to the hotel?

We can do that easily using credit card. what about debit card? will it has the same function?
*
Yup, full amount will be charged, the difference between debit card, and credit card is that debit card deducts the $ directly from your savings/current account, while credit card requires you to pay up all the swipes you have made at a particular day, depending on various banks. Debit, and credit, says all....

I've checked back today's transaction history. they refund the pre auth and charge me the amount..glad to know that the transaction went thru.
what is pre authorization?
thanks miles...

Pre-auth is like the bank will actually hold a specific amount of $, deducted from your account, just incase that there are any frauds/additional payments are involved. Maybe you are paying for smtg that has a chance that the payment could be increased (you subscribe additional stuff, etc.), just like petrol stations and hotels.

But in actual fact, pre-auth is actually used because the receiving end (in your case, the australian embassy or smtg), haven't receive the funds yet, therefore they will take the pre-authorization fund from you, and release it back, when your issueing bank (maybank) has the funds transferred to their account.

I'll take hotels to be simple, as it is the easiest to understand tongue.gif The bank will keep a specific amount, lets say RM250, as pre-auth charge, from your account, until the day you check out from your hotel, and the following day itself, the bank will refund it to u, PROVIDED if the hotel never request for additional charges from the bank (items lost from hotel room, towels, etc.). This is to ensure that the hotel do not be on the losing side, as if you're using debit card, once you pay the initial payment for the room, example let's say RM100 for the room, if there is no pre-auth charges, the hotel will not be able to charge you for the damages done in the room if your account balance has insufficient funds.

Hope my long winded explanation enlightens u laugh.gif

Yup, it has nothing to do with exchange rate actually. It's gotta do with making sure that the receiver do not be on the losing end, the name says it all "pre-authorization". Before the funds are transferred to the receiver's account, the pre-auth amount is to be kept by the bank just incase there are any changes in the payment.

Not all places requires pre-auth, cause I'm suprised that genting doesn't ask for pre-auth $ as well tongue.gif

AFAIK, for maybank, if you're under 18, you can access mb2u, but you can't transfer funds to open 3rd party account, and the only thing you can do is check your balance. There are very limited options available in mb2u for under 18

saw: you will need to go ATM and change the daily limit, maximum is RM5,000. Go to ATM, under withdrawal limit, change from there.

just wanna ask fellow sifus here, does maybankard platinum debit have any difference as compared to the normal visa debit?

few days back, i went to a club, sanctuary, and i did not bring so much cash, therefore i tried using the debit card, the bill is RM565, and i have around 1k+ in my account, therefore supposingly, it should go through.. however, the waiter told me there's "card error" stated on the machine.... and this is not my first time using it.. no idea why sad.gif

therefore, opting to change to the platinum debit, hoping that it can get authorization easier compared to visa debit.. and also, for platinum, will my name be embossed on the card? smile.gif cheers and thx for helping me out

i have just signed up for the Premier Mudharabah Account from maybank... when i went over the counter to ask if i could register for the maybank2u premier account, they helped me process with it, and later on when i check only i got to know that mine is the mudharabah account which requires a minimum balance of rm50,000 at all times else there will be a RM5 fees per month, as compared to the maybank2u premier account which needs to have a RM1k balance within 6 months time.... however, i got my platinum debit as well..

so in order to actually have the platinum debit, must i have the Premier Mudharabah Account? else why did they help me to create this particular account instead of the mb2u premier account which i opted for in the beginning?

Added on March 17, 2011, 1:27 pmjust went out to clarify, the officer that processed my application was out, so her colleague was saying that it's a miscommunication, and i have to apply it online only and then only proceed to the branch.... useless officer, never even tell me she is assigning the mudharabah account to me instead, when i opted for mb2u premier in the first place... bad experience
