Is it safe to put all your money to the bank account which is linked to a debit card nowadays? Or it is safer too put aside a sum of money for the card?
*
For me, I will put into separate account with the same bank. I can transfer it easily through internet. If fraud happen your money at risk. Its your money. Banks won't care that much unlike credit card.

Thanks for the info smile.gif

I also have have a BoA debit visa card, if I use the card to withdraw $ from the ATM in malaysia, I will be limited to RM 1,500 withdrawal each time rite?

Anyway to withdraw higher larger amount of $, since I am being charged USD 5 per withdrawal  + 1% conversion fees or something like that ((if I am not mistaken)
*
I have BoA debit card as well. Yes look for ATM machine that dispense RM100 note as what MilesAndMore point out. Previously I withdraw at HSBC Leboh Ampang. I made RM3000 per withdraw. Regarding the fee, yes BoA charge USD5 + 1% fee as you point out.

Many thanks for the info, Miles smile.gif
Do you mind sharing the exchange rate that you get when you are doing the withdrawal over the ATM?

I did a withdrawal from Paypal to my bank account in MY, the paypal exchange rate is 3.29, while the "street" rate (if I remember correctly) was about 3.38 at that time.
*
The exchange rate is very good. You will get interbank exchange rate. But you will be charge USD5 for non BofA international ATM & 1% fee. The 1% fee is about USD8 for RM3000 withdrawal.

If you want to withdraw paypal fund, the best is still malaysian debit card.

Thanks GHz.

How can I tell whether the ATM can dispense 3,000 or not?

If I am not mistaken, if the ATM cannot dispense 3k, and  I decided to cancel the transaction, I will be charged USD 5 (by BoA) also rite? sad.gif

I have to start looking at getting $ from ATM, as paypal now do not allow, adding funds from US bank account to Paypal (registered in MY)
*
Yes, look for ATM that have RM100 notes sticker. I only know HSBC Leboh Ampang.

I think if you cancel the transaction, you will not be charged $5. I made few transaction before but cancel before withdrawing the money, no USD5 charge incur.

Yes, wondering why, Paypal no longer allow Malaysian Paypal user to add fund from US bank account.

balance inquiry definitely charge USD5
but i think if you do not enquire on balance and press cancel before withdrawing, you shud not be charge
do come back and update us

Yes I agree, don't check your balance, instead just make your RM3k withdrawal. If the machine not supporting RM3k withdrawal, just cancel it.

Tried that on ATM that won't dispense RM 3K, was not charged, but I can't withdraw 1.5k also. So I don't think it will apply. sad.gif

Coz, apparently, when I cancelled my BoA checking account, the check card is also cancelled sad.gif

.. SIGH ..

i have both savings & checking.

Cancelled the checking only ... still have savings sad.gif
*
The check card is link to checking account by default. If you do a transaction via VISA network, I think it will deduct from checking account.

One more thing to remember is to call their CS before make withdrawal & told them that you are in Malaysia & want to withdraw money. Previously, I did not call them, withdrawal not success & card get block.

I tried to make 3k withdrawal at HSBC & 1.5K at Maybank ATM. Both working well.

Why do you cancel the checking account?

Do you have enough money inside or not?

Do you activate the card to used for online transaction. Better call CS to confirm.

Most likely the card is blocked for Paypal, just like Maybank Cherry VISA debit card when it was introduced last year. Maybank Cherry VISA debit card can't be used on Paypal until about 3 weeks after Public Bank introduced the Day2Day VISA debit card in May this year.
*
I think, Maybank Cherry card is not blocked by paypal. It just that Maybank disabling the card to used online until recently. Look at PB Day2day card. It is also new but can be used for online transaction.

GHz,

Do you know if the UOB Bank debit Mastercard can be used online ? Such as at www.malaysiaairlines.com.my/airasia.com/genting.com.my etc ? UOB Bank has stopped issuing VISA Electron. The existing VISA Electron card users have also been told to go to UOB Bank to replace it with the new debit Mastercard.
*
Sorry, I do not know about that. blush.gif

QUOTE(shyuanshyuan @ Feb 11 2010, 01:46 AM)
Just wanna share my experience here about debit card.. the debit card that disappoint me is that Maybank Cherry debit card.. 1st when I applied for that card, I thought it really could be linked to Paypal where the officer in Maybank told me so.. What I had did wrongly was I didn't do research at the 1st..

After that, I tried to look through google search and i found that tunemoney and pb visa electron are both confirmed that can be linked to paypal.. the annual fee of rm24 for pb visa electron is actually the reason why i didnt apply for it.. I go for a tunemoney card which requires rm12 annual fee which is a relevant fee.. now i feel kinda inconvenient whenever i wanna use my paypal because i gotta keep reloading my tunemoney card and always been charged rm0.50 through fpx reload, this is the cheapest way of reloading the card.. and now they had changed the fee system, annual fee rm12 is gone, but rm1.50/month fee came.. =.= so i am going to cancel it very soon..

Few days ago, i went to public bank to buy bank draft, so i saw this MU debit card and day2day debit card brochures.. i asked 3 officers over there.. 2 told me day2day card cant link to paypal.. and 1 told me he dunno what is paypal.. >.< so i decided to apply for MU debit card since the 2 officers said day2day card cant but MU card can link to paypal.. in this case, my MU debit card will be prepared after 2 weeks..

Infact, i was going to open a savings acc at public bank, so i decided to get the day2day card as my atm card because i can withdraw money unlimited times/mth without charging me fee for over withdrawal..When i reached home, i tried my luck to link the day2day card to paypal.. and it successful.. So, now my coming MU debit card is actually useless already..

Sometimes, I just felt that they didnt give us the accurate information and they didnt update themselves as financial institutions.. Just like the officer don't even know what is Paypal.. >.< But anyway, I am satisfied with this day2day card.. unlike the maybank debit card, it can't even use for online purchase.. seems like it has only two functions which are withdraw money and swipe at counters (so call "work like a credit card")..
*
DO you know that now you can link Maybank Debit Card with Paypal?

sivapc, any bank that can link to Paypal will do, just refer to the link http://1-million-dollar-blog.com/2009/03/m...und-withdrawal/ by GHz smile.gif just look for which bank would you prefer and suits your need eg. nearest to your house or charge you lowest annual fee and so on.. smile.gif

May I know when is this started? Because I have tried to link my Maybank DCard to Paypal before I applied for Day2Day Card, it failed..  unsure.gif

Maybank activate the feature in July 2009. But remember to activate your card first.

yesterday i use my cherry card at s&j they kept asking me to key in my pin number..i told them just treat it like a visa card ..am i right or wrong? cuz other places i dont need to key in pin and sign like a usual visa..
*
If you need to key-in PIN number than its use MEPS e-debit network. If no PIN is required than it use VISA network. SO ask the merchant to charge the card as credit card.

For Retail purchase, they will deduct exactly on the amount that you sign for. Only at petrol pump you will be deducted RM200 than return the remaining later on. No other extra charge.
