from our PB Visa Electron Card Product Disclosure Sheet:

Liability for Unauthorised Transactions
In the event of card loss/theft, your maximum liability for unauthorised transactions is limited to
RM250-00, provided that you have not acted fraudulently or have not failed to inform us of your
debit card as soon as reasonably practicable after having found that your debit card is lost or stolen.
If investigation discloses that you are involved in the incurring of any unauthorised charges, you
shall be liable for all the unauthorised charges incurred, including financial charges, whether before
or after the Bank's receipt of such confirmation. It is expressly agreed that the Bank is not under a
duty to ensure that the Current Balance prescribed by the Bank is not exceeded.
*
No card lost or theft. If charges were made online, we wont know, we wont be able to inform you.

That's kinda stupid... definitely gonna keep a tiny amount of money on my PB Visa Electron then. Or switch to HLB. /sigh

What about calling us if they detect large expenditures to confirm it wasn't fraudulent? I think I'm gonna be disappointed in the answer.

Its weird that you call it VISA / MASTERCARD but don't get the same security blanket that comes with the name.

@byronong
PBB should extend credit card protection to debit card users. You can even advertise and people will flock to PBB.
QUOTE(frega @ Aug 6 2010, 09:48 AM)
Or, worse case scenario, our debit card info was stolen (electronically) and used to purchase stuff. Customer Service needs to flag huge spendings and notify us to confirm if we did spend all that money or if it was some thief doing it.
QUOTE(frega @ Aug 6 2010, 10:54 AM)

Most local debit cards do not come with this limited liability feature. After all, this is not in the law. Therefore, most banks simply don't bother.

Anyway, in the US where debit card is such as norm since over 10 years ago. All the debit cards do come with limited liability. However, if something really happens and your money was stolen or card fraudulently used. Do you think they will refund the money back to your account ? No. They won't. Limited liability on debit card is more like gimmick. They will tell you it is your fault for not properly governing your card. In a nutshell, credit card provides better security to its card owner.

QUOTE(frega @ Aug 6 2010, 09:48 AM)
Its not about physically losing the card.

More in terms of use on the Internet, stuff happens. Like when vendors double, triple charging for something we bought. Or error in their billing system and randomly charging people.

For example, a few months ago, a MMO company charged its subscribers for 15-40 times when a billing error occurred. That's 40x USD $15. or 40x USD $45(3 months). or 40x USD$90 (6months). Someone people had 2 subscription on a single card. So family accounts were emptied to a point of overdrafting, those impacted hard had to loan money while the banks get all the funds returned (took a few weeks).

We need to be report these things as fraudulent billing and claim back our money. We need to be protected, even more so because its not on "credit" like credit cards are. No real danger, not till you have to pay that $5000 bill at the end of the month. With debit, money will be taken outta our accts.

Don't have to worry about this one as you can dispute the payment with your bank and they will definitely refund the money to you. Happened to me before a few years ago to my Public Bank VISA Electron in one of the restaurants in Genting.

as i found out some banks add a feature of security online for master and visa debit cards which is (verified by visa/master)
this is as i sow originally for cc and they are implementing it for dc now

i dont know if that would add security to the dc as my experience almost zero in this but it felt like dc become more secure online

Does anyone have problem with RHB Cash Connect Debit Card in Metrojaya/Jusco? I had experienced where Jusco didn't accept the card as the transaction will be very hard to go through, same case with Metrojaya.

Someone once said that Jaya Jusco only accepts debit card from Maybank for the time being. I however, once used my Public Bank Day2Day VISA debit card at Jaya Jusco Mid-Valley with no problem.

03-2176 8000. They will ask you a few questions like the 3 cvv digits behind your card, your name (of course), IC numbers, your mother's name and your mailing address etc. You can call them now if you want to as the call centre opens 24/7.

Yes. It opens 24/7. Some people might have emergency during the wee hours like card stolen and they need to inform the bank immediately to cancel the card.

Yes. You can. Just that you must have enough money inside your card/account.

Choose the credit card/debit card option. Then they will connect you to that department and someone will pickup your call. Tell him/her that you tried to register your card for Verified by VISA through their website but you entered the wrong details and now your card is blocked. Tell him/her you want them to unblock the card. He/she will ask you a few questions and that's it. Your card will be good to use again.
