byronong i suppose you are one of public bank team

anyway as i read from other collections of opinions that PB is a bit late in processing new applications for Visa Electron Debit Card

first question: why should this kind of application take that long time
as i know is not like CC that the bank need to check the history of the customer among some other checks as well

second question which is more important for me personally:
i have sent my application for visa electron last Monday 2nd of August . when i should check back to make sure of receiving the application and the improvement of the process

one more thing: i am a foreign student which i have been residing in Malaysia for almost 5 years and recently become a citizen spouse but still under student pass. is my profile able to be approved or not

please advise... thanks

Can you please share with us what those better rewards are?
To my knowledge , most credit card reward points are worth RM1 for 200 pts.

Just some examples:
AMEX Gold CC gives 2.5% for petrol, groceries and few other stuff, 1% for the rest
PBB has lots of cash back promo - subject to tnc, ranging from 8% to 12%

Debit card normally can't match those

I see...you meant cash rebate. But I thought I saw some debit Cards also have cash rebate programme, perhaps not as attractive as ccard.
CIMB Mastercard can earn 5% cash rebate at Giant/Tesco/Guardians on weekends. This is awesome.

Yup, I agree that credit card cash rebate is better compare to debit card.

On the Day2Day card design: I wasnt in the development team for that stage.
So i hope you will convince them to redesign the card. I think Public Bank did a very good job designing the already phased out Manchester United MasterCard. Public Bank's corporate color is red, the card's color can be predominantly red too.

Actually, would you as a customer rather have "welcome gifts, redemption gifts, etc gifts" or "hard cold cash'
Cash back is always preferable. And i hope Public Bank will soon review its cash back rewards program. I personally think Public Bank is just too stingy by giving us only 0.3% cash back on all transactions except petrol and groceries. Why can't you guys make it 0.5% just like the VISA Electron ? And instead of 0.8% cash back for petrol and groceries, why not give us 1% cash back ? I know that Public Bank did give 1% cash back for petrol and groceries last year but why not make it permanent ?

QUOTE(Shinichi @ Aug 4 2010, 09:36 AM)
For normal ATM card, we are charged RM1 if withdraw from other bank ATM. But with debit card, if we withdraw money from other bank, will this considered as cash advance thru PLUS or Cirrus network?
It is under MEPS network.

Yes. That is true. However, if you are not exactly a high spender, a debit card will serve you just fine especially with the stupid credit card tax in place.

Sure you can if your student pass is still valid. Normally it should be >10 days to be courier to your desired location.

That's kinda stupid... definitely gonna keep a tiny amount of money on my PB Visa Electron then. Or switch to HLB. /sigh

What about calling us if they detect large expenditures to confirm it wasn't fraudulent? I think I'm gonna be disappointed in the answer.

Its weird that you call it VISA / MASTERCARD but don't get the same security blanket that comes with the name.

@byronong
PBB should extend credit card protection to debit card users. You can even advertise and people will flock to PBB.

feedback noted, will get further details on this.

But at any point, a cardmember should be responsible for his/her belongings.

For example, if you drop your wallet with RM1k cash, can you claim your RM1k lost from the government?

Its not about physically losing the card.

More in terms of use on the Internet, stuff happens. Like when vendors double, triple charging for something we bought. Or error in their billing system and randomly charging people.

For example, a few months ago, a MMO company charged its subscribers for 15-40 times when a billing error occurred. That's 40x USD $15. or 40x USD $45(3 months). or 40x USD$90 (6months). Someone people had 2 subscription on a single card. So family accounts were emptied to a point of overdrafting, those impacted hard had to loan money while the banks get all the funds returned (took a few weeks).

We need to be report these things as fraudulent billing and claim back our money. We need to be protected, even more so because its not on "credit" like credit cards are. No real danger, not till you have to pay that $5000 bill at the end of the month. With debit, money will be taken outta our accts.

Or, worse case scenario, our debit card info was stolen (electronically) and used to purchase stuff. Customer Service needs to flag huge spendings and notify us to confirm if we did spend all that money or if it was some thief doing it.
