My brother is going to further his studies in Australia and he needs a laptop. Should he buy here in Malaysia and take it there or just buy it in Australia?

Which brand to choose if buy it in Australia? (edit)

If price is not too much difference then buy in Australia... the warranty is the only issue, but u can also try to get laptop here with international warranty. I think big manufacturers like Toshiba and Dell provide that. Buying laptop here is normally cheaper.

The technicians there are nicer. biggrin.gif

International warranty would be fine. But your brother has to consider which part of Australia he is going to. If big city like Melbourne or Sydney should be easy to look for service center but not every place.
BTW, when I was in Australia, the computer shop I normally went to are run by Malaysian Chinese, cheap prices with good service. Malaysia BOLEH!!!

I'd suggest you to buy your computer in Malaysia. Even if you want to get a custom pc, you better get it in MY and post it. It somehow is still cheaper. Even JBHifi who claims that they have the best deals around, their laptops aren't that cheap compared to MY ( if you convert, thanks to our weak Ringgit ) .

AFAIK dell warranty is cover worldwide as long as that country got sell then they'll have spare parts for repairs.

Laptop will come with traveller chaerger and aussie is using 220V, so no problemo. In fact I still keep some aussie electrical appliance i bought in use.

I avoid Dell like a plague. Expensive warranty, crappy specs, even crappier integrated audio, etc. I had the chance to play around with Acer Timeline and damn the sound quality is awesome (realtek with Dolby Natural Bass). That's OT though.

Anyway, I see that most manufacturers have at least 2 years international warranty, not only Dell. Dell's 3 years require extra fees iinm.

You can always use adaptors. If Aussie uses 120V instead of 240V, then you can use the adaptor with a built-in transformer etc. Nothing to worry about.
