Welcome new hunter! Just a tips of advice, try to create Hunter Set. or armor with the skill have PhysVis. You need that +15 and it will detect the location of boss in map.
Just go to training school (far behind on left in town), it will teach u at least some valuable lesson for newbie.

do remember to hire some cat as your partner when going to do quest.
they are your best scape goat for monster

hehe...you remind me of the very first time i played monster hunter 2 in ps2 back to few years...i even got killed by the minion who eat grass ( where you get the raw meat from)

this game is about 3Ps Patient+Practice+Plan (effective strategy and weapon)

after trap it,u need to throw a tranqulizer bomb 

u can trap mobs?   (to me mobs=packs of velociprey )

u can combine em.
trap tool(buy from lady or old lady(old lady sumtimes have half price )) combine with either genprey fang or net(spiderweb+vine)
trap tool + net= pitfall trap.
trap tool + genprey fang= shock trap(or isit stun trap? either way it stuns a prey )

FYI normal mob cannot be capture. Trap is only meant for mob boss.
there is 2 type of trap, pitfall and shock trap.
the trap can be plant only in certain places and certain trap doesn't work on the bosses.
To capture mob boss, you need to select trap and plant the trap at ground.
Before you can capture u must 1st damage it until it left 10% or 20% below his Hp.
Usually it will give a sign by limping or making weird noise.
So use your  trap and throw 1 or 2 tranquilizer bomb at him, to capture it.

Trap tool can be bought at shop except for spiderweb, ivy i'm not sure can be bought at shop or not.
Pitfall Trap      = Net(Spiderweb + Ivy) + Trap Tool
Shock trap      = Trap tool + Genprey Fang

maybe we can list down some pros and cons of the weapons to our new hunter here... n can also put on the 1st post...

keep ur bugs n stuff, sell off if u got more than 99 of it.

if ure going to plant stuff for money
plant yellow seed
sell corn

if not red seed can give u power seed (eat in quest for more damage) or green seed for armor seed (i might be wrong)

pretty straight forward and you can find everything there.. read it up! it'll make the game much more easier..

Either u try to do more on training school, or best is to pick a weapon and focus on that weapon so u can master it before moving to other weapons. Making multiple weapons will need lots of money n resources so it's not really recommended. Good starter weapon -> Long Sword (Or anything you like... )

oh ya Kaeza..u got any Lance(no gun lance pls) can recommend to me..i wana try to use..lol...erm..preferably high raw with gud sharpness and affinity

it's advised to rank up 1st... refer to 1st post on which quest to do to rank up...

along the way... you'll see more armor with good skills

if frontier comes, i wont be playing, i m against p2p online games.
if i pay i have to play if not  i waste money
too much pressure

spiderweb need gather from farm or during quest

as for cephadrome... bring alot of sonic bomb to get it out from sand...

If you lazy to collect those item. you could hunt for yian kut kut(YKK) and do the quest.
if not mistaken they also provide sonic bomb, in that quest.

tips for beginner, i usually kill off all the annoying small mob b4 looking for the boss.
that what i do before i solo off the boss 
i dunno this apply to other ppl or not when they started this game
