 Buying receiver from US

Hi all sifus..

Just wanna ask is't worth it if i buy from US & what other thing that I need to consider or prepare besides waranty & step down transformer? Speaking about step down transformer, if the receiver power rate at 500W, can i buy step down transformer rate more than 500W ie 1000W? Or any other than only Watts need I
look at?

Really need icon_question.gif from sifu here because price in the US is very2 cheap compare to here. I don't worry about tax or shipping fee because this part I can kautim biggrin.gif
Planning to get onkyo 876, in US less than usd900, I do not know price in Msia but I believe more than RM 5k

jmdibr,

I would advise u against it as AVRs are known to fail more frequently than normal 2 channel amplifiers. There have been many known problems where it would be a hassle to send back if u happen to be unlucky. I have seen HDMI board failures, Dolby Decoder chip failures, power supply failures, display panel failures that are just not worth the hassle. Its cheaper, but if ur unlucky, then repairs are a bomb...

The transformer portion is the least of ur worries.

Unfortunately, yes it is less troublesome, as it is a pretty simple electronic contraption. And if anything goes bust, I believe u could get it repaired easily.

AVRs nowadays are too complex, the upscaling chip, the HDMI chip/board, DACs, various connections, displays etc....
