My Ps3 are starting t show symtopms of YLOD... Its relaly loud nowdays and certain games will cause it to auto shut down. My ps3 freezed a few times when i played Mw2. I am wondering wether i should service it now b changing the thermal paste. I cant afford to lose my ps3 because i have tons of photos, Songs and movies in it. Also i have spend a few hundred dollars on DLC. Singstar, rockband and many many games. Say if it does goes kaboomm... will i be able to transfer all my DLC to the new ps3?
*
DLC can't be tranfered, its fixed...you need to do back up for save games, but not all save game were transferable diz days...

for acct. you need to deactivate da system first... nod.gif like mine i can't turn on & deactivate it, so all burned. cry.gif

p/s: my acct. was on a last slot, so there was nuthing i could do... doh.gif

I recommend you all put a table fan on the right hand side of the PS3 .The air from the fan can blow directly to the hole that located on the right hand side of the PS3.Like mine, after I put a table fan there ,my PS3 seems runs quite cool.
I not sure this is the best and cheapest way or not,but I hope it can really cool-off your PS3.

By the way,MY ps3 is CECHH06 Model(the red box packing one).It is a last batch 40 GB model.I think this model is better than previous CECHG 06 40GB PS3.
*
what if i say not recommended? brows.gif

my last unit i'd put not only 1 but 3 unit table & standing fans still yellowed...da 3rd one was for me...WTH doh.gif

oso got bro in here had his unit in aircond room ebeli time oso YLoD... sweat.gif

u may ask many question to debate, we are here to discuss please feel free... thumbup.gif

seriously bro, you still havent kena. You dont know. well ventilated? heck, my ps3 was placed in a very open space, and even one of the forummers had his ps3 in air conditioning room, still hit by YLOD. There is a problem with the first batch of 40 gb sku PS3. Refer to the poll. and of course Sony wont admit the problem, they have brains laugh.gif

i am giving up to repair mine. Just kumpul duit to buy a new official malaysian PS3 slim. Save all the hassle.

40gb japanese set bought april '08.
Screw the ventilation / heating issues. Its just luck.

Keep your machine in an airconditioned, well-ventilated space, with a fan blowing directly to the side vent would only prolong the inevitable.
*
yeah right, until u getting one then u know what was screwing u then laugh.gif

I think it happens more often to the early adopters of the ps3, since nowadays the games utilize more of the ps3, the earlier versions of the ps3 can only take that much. Therefore resulting in overheating and YLOD. The slim has just launched for a few months, who knows what problem will strike after they reach a few years old and more and more canggih games come out, hopefully there wont be any problems.

Point 1: It's placed on the desk. No confinements.
Point 2: Played BluRay disc every now and then. Literally lost count of it.
Point 3: I did update the system firmware via game disc and externally via USB before.
Point 4: Have yet to go online.
Point 5: Average gaming hour would be 5hrs. During weekends, it could be stretch to a solid 10hrs without switching off the console.

Miscellaneous point:

Misc 1: Mine is a 80GB. (the original version)
Misc 2: Been faithfully with me for a year.
Misc 3: My PS2 (the original version) has been with me almost 10 years and it has not broken down yet.

Regards, Joey

p.s: Maybe I'm lucky when it comes to purchasing electronics gadgets. Well....just want to share my piece of story. Cheerio.

I don't think any of these make any sense. biggrin.gif

There is a saying .... "Those afraid of dying never really lives".

For me, I just bought a usb fan that would aid to increase the air flow in the ps3. Hopefully that would reduce the temp in the PS3 by a few degree celcius which in the long run might help a little bit.  I did notice the air blowing out from the back of the PS2 less hot after I install the fan.

don't tell me u bought these one... sweat.gif

Nope.  I bought one which is actually for laptop, but without extending the four arms outward, it sits nicely on top of the PS3.  I will post a picture later.  The good thing is that I use the fan to suck out the hot air from the PS3 instead of blowing the air into it.

This is a picture of the fan....

Play about 2.5 hrs of uncharted 2 tonight without and crash.  What I did this time is put the USB fan on top of the PS3 but this time I use the fan to blow the air into the PS3 instead of sucking it out.

No problem mate.  I will try to reflow it myself this time, but can only try when i got home from my offshore trip now.

Too bad we cannot use the old HDD on the a new PS3.  Then no matter what I have to revive my PS3 just long enough to backup.
