Starting work soon so looking for a used auto car.

Brand: Any
Budget: ~20k (monthly installments - rm500/month)
Specs: Total noob with cars so no idea. Preferable something with lots of safety features though x__x . Low maintenance + low fuel consumption.

This will be my first car so looking for something durable which can withstand a few knocks as it's also my first time driving ;;;. The Kia Picanto has caught my eye in terms of looks and cost but not too sure about the other features (safety, maintenance etc.). Parents however are pretty set on buying my relative's used Kelisa which they claim is safer than the Picanto. However I've heard from a friend that I might as well drive a Milo tin car if going to buy the Kelisa >_> . So any thoughts on that?

Recommendations for other cars which fit the above mentioned criteria are also welcome =D !

LOL!! I guess the keyword there is SLIM. Didn't know that some cars actually prefer skinny owners XD. Kinda assumed it's the same unless the owner is so big that he/she can't fit into the car =_= .
