Never liked it.
Find it abit heavy for its size and FC not particularly good.
Is a good funky alternative for Mini though.
New Polo Sedan = Polo Sedan CKD
Old Polo Sedan = Polo Sedan CBU India

Difference? Not much.
Most major equipment change is the rear passengers got aircond vents now too.
Other minor changes are trims there and there.

1600cc engine -- unlike most VW cars in Malaysia this one is without turbo
6-speed gearbox -- unlike most VW cars in Malaysia this one is non-DSG, is slushbox type.

So in other words... Less problems and less maintenance right ?
But the engine seems less powerful even vs Fiesta 1.5.
If it were you 208, fiesta, polo sedan...which would you get...not considering price, as they are not too far apart in terms of price. And why? Thanks a lot wink.gif

Normally, less high-tech the parts are cheaper and even normal workshops can settle.
Very high-tech stuff like CVT and DCT are best serviced and repaired at their respective 3S.

Fiesta - it is more proven, more cars on the road means more common parts, depreciation lessen because of the demand for this car.

2nd choice is Polo Sedan CKD - slightly proven, reasonable amount of cars on the road, C-segment size and european refinement from B-segment price.

3rd choice 208 - unproven track record because it is new (however, it might eclipse the other two -- who knows).

It is a good 10k cheaper than the market average.
Not too sure what the reason is, the mileage is also pretty low for a car that age.
If you're living in KL I don't really suggest you go outstation to buy cheap cars unless you got good contacts as you don't want to get conned when the car finally arrives it is different from the one you bought when you go to view.

2007 Honda Accord 2.4 - since you like taking a chance why not go check out this car at puchong, abit too good to be true as for the year and spec it should at least be 15-20k more expensive than the asking price.

Honestly B-segment cars like City, Vios, Cerato, etc. are shitty tin-cans designed to ferry you from A-B in relative safety under the speed limits, they're not designed for 160-180km/h on a normal basis, the time it takes for these cars to reach such speeds you already know they're not meant to be going at that speed.

my way of tracking history.
the three you chosen are good cars.

sorry bro i cannot help you.
you must drive outstation alot because with the short highways and traffic in kl, and the low cubic capacity of the viva, it ain't going to reach 160-180 alot, i hardly do that speed on my civic laugh.gif

is it clearance for old vios or new vios promotion?
it is quite expensive for vios g as it is basically more or less same as the vios j except for some accessories.
for me i'll choose the city as it comes with traction control and more larger spacious body.

imho prius c = myvi with hybrid, the interior material quality is really disappointing for CBU.
you might as well get the much cheaper honda insight/jazz hybrid.

i was at topmark recently one of my top picks from there was WUN2611
altis 2.0, 2010, 46000 mileage, 97k.
though at 97k you're awfully close for the most basic model of the altis series at 105k to buy new but that lacks alot of stuff.

lets say new cars within 70k your choices would be Mitsubishi Attrage and Nissan Almera for bigger sized B-segment sedans, of course comfort and equipment level not as good as true C-segment cars but at least you can get them new and they're pretty spacious for that price range. anyway, below are a few cars within your budget from the used car corner.

2010 Mazda 3 - the very delicious looking Mazda3, this is the notchback which they are selling as the sedan version of the Mazda3, personally I prefer this look than the hatchback because when you open the boot you're not lifting the entire glass area and the opening is smaller so you get better NVH but if you use the boot alot and/or put heavy things into it often like wheelchair when taking grand parents out then the hatch would be a better option as it open wider. Both are similarly spec and comes with all the safety features you should expect from a C-segment car, my one gripe with this car is the center console while 3 years ago dull black plastic panels seem okay as manufacturers were going for the minimalistic look, nowadays if there isn't a touch screen panel in the center it looks just too plain like a low-spec budget car. Maintenance for Mazda's people tend to think of as being more expensive than Honda's and Toyota's but this is mostly true when you're talking about their 3S, outside workshops and using compatible parts will lower your maintenance cost alot -- be sure to get OEM/compatible parts not fake/recon parts.

2010 Nissan Sylphy - this model is always a favorite of mine to recommend to friends as a used car because unless you trade-in a Nissan back to Nissan to buy another Nissan car, the open market price is pretty low for Nissan cars, so you can see this car when new will cost you in the region of 100k+- depending on spec but in the used car market only 3 years old it has depreciated roughly 30% and is a pretty good buy. It isn't very old and sometimes you can find gems with low mileage and kept very well like the one in this advert -- probably used by teacher or makcik go buy sayur only. Spec and equipment levels are good and maintenance is on the cheaper side, however my gripe is the interior look and color -- beige, cream and wood trims gives an air of spaciousness and prestige, however some do hate the color as it is very old man but surprisingly this color combination is easier to maintain than grey/black.

2009 Ford Focus 2.0 Ghia - like the Mazda this model has two variants with basically identical spec, this one is the sedan while there is also a hatch. The hatch with some bodykits really looks the part of a sports hatch (also because it is the poor cousin of the Focus ST) but practicality wise I'd suggest you go for the sedan. Sedan while not looking too sporty has the same ingredients under the hood so it is no slouch -- infact anyone that buys a Focus would never complain about the performance and handling, they'll be slightly grumbling at the slighly higher cost of maintenance for the car but unlike Japanese cars with 5000km mileage service interval, conti's are 10,000km each it is a headache you won't have to go through many times a year unless you mileage is very high. Common parts and maintenance items are cheap/decently price just that some of the major maintenance parts would cost abit more like coil plugs for instance.

2011 Honda City E-spec - this is my top pick because it is the top spec Honda City pre-facelift at a reduced price as you'd only get 2010 low-spec or 2009 high-spec for this price, so quickly call before they sell it. Only issue most people have with this car is that it feels heavy (due in part to extra safety features like VSA and larger roomier interior and boot) thus it doesn't feel as nippy as a Vios (I consider lightweight stripped down milo tin) but it is better spec having paddle shifters, VSA, 5 stars NCAP, etc. So fuel consumption varies according to driving style.

Yup.. I do worry as well..they are contis.. With the perception of higher maintenance and low resale value. But more importantly driving satisfaction, stability and solidness I think conti > Japanese cars. Resale value is true..due to the perceptions..so not many ppl wana buy contis..but service/maintenance should be about the same because contis usually have a 10k service interval...and Japanese cars 5k.. 5k + 5k service costs more sometimes.

I don't have the figures now but if you make this comparison it usually is the same for conti/japanese

conti car -> new price -> used car price 7 or 9 years later = ??
japan car -> new price -> used car price 7 or 9 years later = ??

difference not that much, there are exceptional models but for the vast majority the theory above holds true.
so if you keep and use it for 7 to 9 years its worth it as it can only depreciate so much.

so bear in mind to nowadays many are 3s so walk over to the service & repair section and check what are the maintenance chargers per visit, it is usually written somewhere (but that is the rough guideline if u got special needs of course more expensive).

Hi Sifu,

What's your advice between 2010/11 Toyota altis and Prius?

Both is around 90+k.

My only concern is the warranty for Prius.

Thanks!

1. Brand: Honda (1st pref), Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi
2. Budget: Down payment at max 10,000.
3. New/Used/Unreg: Any
5. Transmission: Auto
6. NA or FI: NA
7. Type: (Sedan, 2 Seater, Convertible, and etc): Sedan
8. Remarks: Need to apply for loan. Foreigner here with only 3 months stay so far. So initial down payment has to be low. Preferably a recent model (2007+).

Would appreciate any recommendation.

I dunno about Toyota but Honda has made it known they've reduced their replacement hybrid system part price, especially the battery.

Both Altis and Prius are good buys at 90k, but of course the Prius is a better buy because it was worth 140k when new, do see if you can get the top spec Altis 2.0 G-spec for that price/year. If you can, its a good deal, though Toyota is like Proton -- too many spec and sellers will tipu buyers if they don't know, unless you buy from Topmark.
