My sis is 26 years old and looking for her working car (also same as me, sales ppl) with budget around 50K++, the following is the brand & car in her mind.

2nd hand
Toyota Vios G spec (2004)
Honda City VTEC (2004)
Nissan Sentra 1.6 (2004/05)

New
Proton persona 1.6 M/H-Line (manual/AT)

Remarks: Auto/Manual is doesn’t matter for her as long as SAVE OIL.

She did not consider about proton saga blm & myvi, since both cars are too common & under power for her. ( as what she told me tongue.gif)

As what we always consider is FC, performace, maintenance cost…etc. she travels a lot in Highway & City, sometimes even outstation…a reliable car is very important for her… nanti d car break down suddenly she also don’t know how especially kat outstation… rclxub.gif

Previously she was thinking to buy viva 660 by cash so that can jimat interest.  But end up she had changed her mind & increase budget for her next ride. Coz viva 660 is under power for her blush.gif
Please advice this lady. With little money but demand a lot sweat.gif . Thanks smile.gif

As you know I'm also hunting for second hand vios but fuel consumption is not as low as you imagine. I survey around the vios thread and I found that with current price of fuel, RM50 = 350-400km(depends on your driving style). While my saga auto(1992) can get RM50=300-330km. If you are a sales person and want to have very low fuel consumption, maybe get a new car and install NGV. I heard it can reach RM50 = 1000km.

Or get a turbodiesel if u want to. RM80 gives u full city driving = 750km+, highway + city = 800km+-

RM200 for monthly saving is unacceptable. Make sure u can pay ur car installments within the min of 1/3 of ur net salary but i recommend 1/4 instead.

That is why i recommend u 1/4 instead of 1/3. But swift is a low maintainence car. Maybe 1 month savings can be used for 6 months maintainence.

cheap maintenance, easy to get spare parts-->Proton & Perodua

With RM62k budget can consider Persona, Waja or Alza(March 2010 get car).

Besides can look for Hyundai accent made 2008(brand new) selling RM5xk

My advise is avoid it. Hyundai is not with good hands in mysia. I bet resale value will be terrible and since Hyundai is taken over by berjaya (accent is from oriental which now has no more rights on Hyundai). I cant comment much about parts or maintenance but comparing the accent n persona, the persona is a safer buy.

1. Brand. Open to suggestions
2. Budget. +/-50k
3. New/Used/Unreg. New or <2yrs
4. Specs. Something safe, ABS, airbag, MP3
5. Transmission. Auto
6. NA or FI ? Natural Aspirated
7. Type. As long not 2 doors are fine
8. Remarks. It's for my sis, she will be starting work soon. Currently eyeing on a Myvi but looking for other options too. Myvi 1.3 2007, 2008, 2009 price too if possible. Low fuel consumption and not so high to maintain. Something higher while driving.

Is swift maintenance as high as Honda/Toyota?

It depends on how much is your dp, current monthly expenses and whether you are willing to pay the monthly loan for the new car

9 - 10 years installment tongue.gif
then can afford bah

but 3.5k monthly get 90k car kinda risky.
though... assuming you will get an career advancement + salary raise + your current net disposable income is high
and ignorning factors of inflation hike + rise in care maintainance + any unexpected events

still feel 3.5k get a 90k car is quite a burden.
make a wise choice

jus my 2cents - not recommended

Honda city will be ur pick. U can get a 04-06 model for less than 60k or around 50k then.

Hmmm i would suggest put more downpayment and take around 50-60k loan. My rule of 1/4 of ur net salary means u may fork not more than 900 a month. Its okay but seriously i suggest u put more downpayment if possible.

5. Transmission = Auto (EZi)
6. NA or FI = NA.... unless theres an FI for it

8. Remarks. 1. Is there a difference between myvi premium and myvi full spec (is there such a thing)?
2. If i were to include the insurance how much will it costs.
3. Im now trying to pick a myvi to buy. need to know which type of myvi is worth the buck. Many people suggested SE. Whereas some say u can buy premium
with the interiors of a SE but without the skirting, spoiler, rims, seats)

as i know in SE there's still 2 version.. Myvi SE GHS and ZHS... Price is RM50400 and RM53400... but anyhw Myv is a gd buy.. the best parts is the low maintenance.. if u are more on modifying car than go for std.. y? u can do upgrade on ur own. But if u r more on using the car without any modification than go for the SE version. Premium is around RM46200 - RM49700 for the Manual and A/T
