IMHO the more you customize a Dell product, the less the bang for buck factor.Enquiries/Recommendations Buying new laptop? Need RECOMMENDATION?, PLEASE POST IT HERE !!! V5

QUOTE(astria @ Oct 19 2009, 12:44 PM) but bare in mind the waiting game can drag indefinitely... by the time Win7 is out, u want to wait for i5... when i5 is out, u may want to wait for HD5000... who knows wat's worth waiting when HD5000 is out... QFT. The best mantra to follow in the world of ever changing technology is; if you need it get it now. By the way, Dell Malaysia is already shipping its systems with Win 7 if you decide to purchase it now. |

QUOTE(dead_psycho @ Oct 19 2009, 09:03 PM) haha..i dont really need it now i guess...i m too tempted to watch movies on that LED screen and I wanna play newer games like Dragon Age. I have not been playing any PC games for so long due to most games now have high requirements...my current lappy is 3 years old already. I know exactly how you feel as I too have a similar predicament. Sighs. |

QUOTE(lee_what2004 @ Oct 21 2009, 12:36 PM) A couple of months ago, they were offering it for RM 3099 with a p8600... I wonder, why did they removed that configuration? It had such good value for money. Now they are practically shoving the overpriced designer edition cover versions down peoples throats. |

QUOTE(whitewolf @ Oct 23 2009, 04:25 AM) studio 15 ey? i asked some guy and he said best is to get intel core 2 duo and nvidia (sp?) and ati. which i have no idea what they meant. but i'm looking at some laptops like hp, dell and toshiba. i dont know whetther i shud include compaq. i know like toshiba very solid the built. and i've also used dell. i'm not quite sure on hp though. At your budget (approximately) the Studio 15 offers the best bang for buck factor if you are an avid gamer. Any other alternatives will see you sacrificing performance for perhaps better builds (though I think the Studio 15 already has quite a stellar construction) or warranties and the like. |

QUOTE(aliencalledbob @ Oct 23 2009, 09:11 AM) Well then, it's settled. Come this weekend, I shall purchase the Dell Studio 15. The best thing about online is, apart from being very reliable, Dell offers up all their latest systems. So if you were to visit a retailer most of the laptops you are likely to find will have Vista pre-installed with the option to upgrade to Win 7. Buying direct from Dell means you get Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit right from the get go. All thanks to you guys! Just one last clarification needed; should I purchase it online? I'd rather not use Cred Cards and whatnot. I was thinkin of just visiting a Dell outlet. Won't make any difference, will it? Though Dell does have a direct outlet, think of it as a physical version of their online store, at Mid Valley. You might have some luck checking there if you are adamant about not buying online. @Above; Even if the Toshiba has a GDDR3 version of the 4570, it's still more expensive and comes with less RAM to boot (2GB vs. 3GB in the Studio 15). The only reason you'd be wanting it is the brand name. |

QUOTE(astria @ Oct 25 2009, 09:27 PM) well, since u re into video editing as well, no doubt i7 will be the choice here... only problem is that none but 1 game in the market now makes use of Hyper Threading, for others, HT will drag down the performance instead, so that's sth that u may want to know... The MSI GX725 is around 4.8k and equipped with a HD4850. Though actually getting your hands on it is gonna be tough as MSI laptop stocks in Malaysia seem rare at best. as for graphic, for SXPS16 with Full HD resolution, HD4670 is definitely insufficient if u re playing at native resolution with high graphic settings for new games... and also, FRAPS will "eat away" a few frames when it's active... for ur requirement, i believe Alienware m15x with GTX 260M is a better choice... it really fits u nicely... problem is, of course, the price... such a config will set u back for more than rm6k... btw, HD5000 is out only early 2010... how early is early??? No idea... I also agree that the best possible option for you, budget non-withstanding, is the Alienware m15x at 6.5k. And finally, don't hold your horses over getting a HD5xxx in any laptops soon, especially in a Dell. The SXPS 16 itself just got upgraded from the legacy 3670 a couple of months ago. So, if you extrapolate from there, Dell will only incorporate ATI's newest GPUs around the end of Q3 next year. |

QUOTE(DonEvenKnowMe @ Oct 26 2009, 03:41 PM) Brand - Any 128 bit bus width mobile GPU for under 2k? That's absurd really, no offense. Budget - Around 1.9~2.2k Specs -3-4gb ram, graphic 128bit & freedos Size - Any Possible To Get It ? >,< Your best bet would be the Asus K40A with a 64 bit HD4570 and free DOS. |

In any case, no gaming at all?looking for something around 3k n below.. i dun mind bout the brand as long as the performance is good.. mainly wanna use for listening to music, surfing the net and designing things.. not so crazy bout heavy weight and small screen though.. |

QUOTE(popiah04 @ Oct 28 2009, 06:04 PM) What i meant is, can we still find U80V with Home Premium? I worry there are a lot of softwares incompatible with Windows 7. I think the general consensus is if Vista can run it, so can 7.From my understanding is that, we would get Windows 7 if we purchase before Oct 22. Are we still eligible for the free upgrade if we purchase laptops with Home Premium after Oct 22? Thanks. |

QUOTE(KoNz3n @ Oct 31 2009, 03:24 AM) Hey guys, my budget is 3.5k and i'm looking for a laptop that's stylish and i use a lot of multimedia programs like photoshop and after effects. I also love to leave the laptop on for days or even weeks so what can you recommend me ? I'm planning on getting http://www.sony.com.my/product/vgn-fw53gf Slightly overpriced. If you can push your budget a lil' the Dell SXPS 16 would make for a brilliant laptop. Otherwise, you may wanna consider the Benq s42 and Dell Studio 15 too.what do you guys think? thanks a lot |

QUOTE(gckhai @ Nov 2 2009, 12:37 AM) may i ask for if i going to buy for dell studio 15 p8700 Buying from Dell's website would mean dealing directly with them, which IMO, is the safest method of doing stuff. At least no third party retailer would try and coax more money out of you because Dell has Windows 7 pre-installed.isit ok to buy from dell website for home delivery ? or i should go for lowyat or other place to look for ? |

QUOTE(lanatir @ Nov 3 2009, 01:43 PM) need your help for suggestions. with RM4-5k budget Dell SXPS 16.1) 15in 2) mostly used for photo processing and internet 3) occasional games (but not hardcore gamer) 4) no need for Bluray or HD am leaning towards dell's studio 15 with added RAM. what other suggestions are there? (asus has some interesting choices but their model range is quite convoluted) thank you. |

QUOTE(lanatir @ Nov 3 2009, 02:36 PM) 6-8Gb roughly. but the XPS16 with that setup and core i7 will be beyond 5k. and i don't want something so big and heavy too. Anything above 4GB of laptop RAM isn't worth the money currently, IMO, as that would require the use of at least one 4GB SO-DIMM module which costs a bomb. You could always take the SXPS 16 base package with the i7, 4GB of RAM and HD4670.This post has been edited by Loki[D.d.G]: Nov 3 2009, 04:54 PM |
