I'm planning to buy a laptop since PC Fair came. The purpose of this laptop is just for me to bring to college for IT classes which involves programming, designing and light gaming(CS/Dota) between friends. I'll be using dekstop at home instead... just to keep the laptop alive for a longer time.

1. Is it necessary to extend your warranty to 3 years when you buy the laptop ? For RM270 from 1 year to 3 years.

2. They say that PC fair always sell products that have a higher tendency to be faulty and thus don't buy laptop from PC fair, do you think it's true ?

Hi there,

I would appreciate if someone could really help me decide which laptop to buy for myself. I've been doing some serious research and found the following which kind of complied to my needs. I specifically need a laptop which runs fast and smooth cos I've been living with a pc which is worse than a tortoise.

- Dell Inspiron 14 (T6600, heard T series heats up and slower than P series, sigh)
- Studio 14 (over my budget, obviously)
- Studio 15 (a lot of forumers here recommend this? I dont really like the cover but the specs seemed good)
- Acer Aspire 4937-752G32

1)Budget - RM 2.5 K and below (a lot lil bit more is fine, not excedding RM2.7K)
2)Usage of laptop - Photoshop, Illustrator, watching DVD, downloading music, image storage, Net surfing, Farmville LOL
3)Size/Weight - No netbooks pls..
4)Brand - As mentioned above, other options are welcomed
5)Specs - Intel Core 2 Duo processor is a must

Iv got no one else to turn to and I seriously need the most 'neutral' opinion. Thank you very very much in advance!! biggrin.gif

Consider the Toshiba L510-4314 since they are offering 3 years warranty and their price is reduced to RM2600 as mentioned by reeve... The 4570 GDDR3 simply beats every other graphic card in the price range you've stated.

Studio 15 cover not nice ? You have so many different designs to choose... which I feel that they are damn cool, refer to Dell They are offering free upgrade to 3GB ram too.

Though the specs is not as nice as the Toshiba one considering the RAM is DDR2 which will definitely be replaced by the DDR3 and it's 4570 is GDDR2... There's a significant performance difference there.

Wouldn't recommend you to go for Acer with your budget... just look at the sheer amount of complaints you can find with Acer laptop sweat.gif

Check this out... Few days ago I saw someone selling it for RM2.5K but I'm not sure whether that's new set.

Without bundled OS ? Is FreeDos what you mean ?

Is 2500 your max ? Because they are able to get the Toshiba L510-S438 at 2.6K + 3 years warranty... I feel that that's a great deal, else you could also go for the Studio 15 with the same spec but comes with DDR2 RAM, warranty wise should be 1 year. Not sure if the free upgrade to 3GB ram is still on though.

If it must be lower than 2.5K, K40AB/G450 are available too.

newbie here.><

Toshiba L510-S4314 is leading now... if specs is what you're considering. It has the same specs as Studio 15 but comes with DDR3 ram/3 years warranty. Though I really like the Mike Ming design of the Studio series ....

hey guys, i need to get a new laptop for my father in law and i'm thinking of getting him a dell inspiron 1420.... he just needs it to check his work stuff and surf. no need any hard core specs.

i initially thought of getting him a netbook, but i scared he cannot see cause it may be a little too small for him.... any advise?

the budget hopefully can get below RM2k. if cannot, max also is RM2.5k

Try Inspiron 14 @ RM1.899.. Should be enough for his usage and Dell's support saves all the troubles. Grab it quick :

there's BenQ S42 for rm2699... P8700, 9600M GT, 14" 1280x800...
imho Inspiron 15 would be better... since the resolution is unchanged but at larger dimension, the fonts will appear bigger as well...
shocking.gif RM2699 ?

Where to get that price ?

It's hard to even find BenQ reseller in Penang rclxub.gif

Seriously nobody knows how long can your laptop run... it's basically a luck factor... every brand has their own users complaining about the laptop. If you wanna be safe just extend your warranty to save yourself from troubles. Service wise it's obvious that Dell topped the rank.

For your budget that is between 2.5k - 3k, most laptops come with Windows 7, I'm not sure whether you can request for a DOS version... and in that range you can choose BenQ S42/Studio 15/Toshiba L510-S4314
