i should get xps or alienware now , my budget is only RM5K

if 5k get 240S only but if i take xps can get 4670

Get the Studio XPS 16 with the i5. The GT 240M simply isn't good enough in a RM5k laptop. But if you can top up the extra for the GTX 260M, then it's a different story.

QUOTE(-kytz- @ Jan 16 2010, 08:43 PM)
The M15x currently comes with either the GT 240M or the GTX 260M. In fact, I haven't heard of a notebook with the GTS 260M before.

Studio 15 or BenQ S57. Or you could wait for the new Arrandale laptops to come from Acer.

Budget - Rm 4000, I may be able to stretch it a little further around rm4500
Usage - In the near future, I want to play games, learn photoshop. In the near future, it may be my primary computing device.
Brand - Anything
Weight - Don't matter

Screen size - 17 inches and up
Solid state hard drives - 500gb and above
RAM - 2gb at least. preferably more but if it exceeds budget, then it's ok.
Graphics card - 512mb or 1gb
Good audio system. I don't mind If I have to use external speakers.

And I think I may want to have the i7 instead of the older core 2 duo.

I've looked into dell, acer, toshiba, sony, hp websites. I love the alienware m17x and the toshiba qosmio! But they are way off budget =.=

I won't make the purchase immediately, I am waiting for the next PC fair to look around for better deals =D
*
You demand awfully a lot for a relatively limited budget. In any case, seeing as there is still some time to go before the next PC Fair, I suggest you ask for a recommendation at a later date. Chances are, what is good now wont be so in the coming months. Especially with the new tech making their way into laptops.

May you tell me whats the pros and cons of getting the 14" over the 15", pls? smile.gif

PS: Budget is below 3k.
*
Perhaps you'll appreciate the bigger surface area afforded by a 15" form factor laptop. In fact, you should probably get the Studio 15 and choose the option to upgrade your screen to a full HD one.

As for the pros and cons, a 14" laptop is basically lighter, easier to manage and thus more portable. A 15" offers a bigger viewing area at the expense of manageability I suppose. Personally, I'd pick a 15" laptop over any 14" if given the choice.

15.6" is damn manageable to me.I certainly don't mind a 18.4 incher if the it's below 4k laugh.gif  doh.gif Would it be manageable then? blush.gif

Note the "I suppose" tongue.gif

But in truth, this is all very subjective to the person. Big sized people wont mind a 17" notebook even wink.gif

what do u mean manageable?
*
As in easy to manage and carry around. I.e More portable.

They are out already. You can try going to Low Yat for a scouting trip, or check Dell's website.

The BenQ S57, pants down. Then comes the Acer 5740G and the Asus U80V brings up the rear.

Strictly in terms of gaming of course.

s57 is difficult find now....acer scare it will got problem easily....U80 is the most expensive in tis 3 but not hv the better perfomance than other 2....= =ii
*
Any laptop will have a certain risk of breaking down prematurely. Even if it is from Apple or HP or Dell. Just because that notebook carries the Acer brand doesn't mean you should overlook it.

i wan perfomance~~but s57 now is difficult to find now la...furthermore i scare it will outdate after i buy...= =ii
so if acer is stable...i will go for 5740G...are 5740G graphic card good??
*
It wont be outdated anytime soon. The HD4650 and P8700 used make for a pretty formidable laptop, considering its price.

Newer doesn't necessarily mean better

whats the difrence between a P8700 core and i5 core?
which 1 would be better?
*
Clock for clock, Arrandale is faster than any of their predecessors. Meaning that the i5-540M at 2.53GHz will be substantially faster than the P8700 with the same clock speed.

That said, either are very capable processors wink.gif

I want to ask , is it worth buying acer 4740g or is it better to pay extra RM500 to get Acer 5740g?

If you don't mind either form factor, the 5740G is much more bang for buck, IMO anyway.
