QUOTE(CloudDave @ Nov 4 2009, 04:36 PM) Guys. A pal of mine mentioned that if i were to get the studio 15 that i should bump it up to RM3299 package for a better processor. Apparently the 2699 model would be insufficient for future heavy apps. I plan to use this laptop for at least 3years. Thoughts? Get the Benq S42 instead. Unless of course you need the 15" screen and Dell's legendary warranty.

QUOTE(lee_what2004 @ Nov 6 2009, 04:01 AM) benq s42 at 3k, if can up abit budget, benq s57 Yeah this is a no brainer. You are unlikely to get a more powerful gaming laptop at that price. The fact it has a low native resolution means better frame rates for your games.

QUOTE(hamzah_18 @ Nov 6 2009, 03:16 PM) hi...sorry to bother again..
is it big differences using genuine OS and office 2007? wat is the effect using pirated version? my budget a bit tight but i don't want to forsake the quality or performance...hope expert out here can guide me..roughly i need to add ~RM600 for the both genuine version if i buy asus k40ab or equivalent (no OS).[COLOR=red] You shouldn't be discussing piracy here. It's against the forum rules and very unethical. Though if you want an alternative to MS Office, you can always turn to open source programs like Open Office.

QUOTE(hamzah_18 @ Nov 6 2009, 04:09 PM) im not buying the pirate..im just asking..sorry if i did any mistakes.hope u also can give some advice to me.. We already did. You can; a) Get an OEM copy of the desired version of Windows 7 you wish to use. b) Get a laptop that comes pre-installed with Windows 7 c) Use an open source OS like Linux. Don't bother about MS Office and the extra you need to pay for it. Open Office can do everything MS' paid version does.

QUOTE(Fantasia @ Nov 11 2009, 12:38 AM) +sxps 16 has FULL HD SCREEN!!! isnt that good if u want to watch movies?? Yeah, good for movies. But when it comes to gaming, the benefits of a full HD screen combined with a upper-middle class GPU may be debatable.

QUOTE(Pain_37 @ Nov 11 2009, 11:53 PM) how about dell xps? isit good? Dell's XPS line has been discontinued in Malaysia. I think you mean the SXPS 13 and 16. They do generally offer pretty good performance for the price they are selling for. More so the SXPS 16 than its little brother though, IMO anyway.

QUOTE(- JaY - @ Nov 12 2009, 01:01 PM) benq s57 > studio xps 16? coz xps 16 u can customize the stuff, but from 4k, i customized to 5k, so still thinking. xps 16 looks great! while the benq s57 looks bulky and normal. Yeah, design is another matter altogether. But if you are seriously considering a 5k rig, may I take that to be your absolute maximum budget?

QUOTE(cylim300 @ Nov 12 2009, 01:06 PM) I am going to buy a new laptop but i am clueless. My budget is about RM 3300 processor duo core 2.4 or above Need to do some heavy gaming so will need a 512mb dedicated graphic card Hard disk space is about 250G is enough since i hav external hard disk Ram DDR2 or DDR3 range 2G to 3G Display 13inch and above Other like webcam, batteries and weight is negotiable. My priority is performance and not the design. May accept and brand. No brainer here. Benq S42 is the best laptop you can get for that budget. But seeing as it doesn't sport Windows, it's running on Linux, you'll need to fork out an additional RM300 for an OEM copy. Either that or consider the more expensive Benq S57.

QUOTE(- JaY - @ Nov 12 2009, 01:23 PM) yup. 5k max. hoping for something in between 3-5k if possible. Then the SXPS 16 is definitely a good choice. Another one you may want to consider is MSI's GX725 which sports a HD4850, 17" screen and Blu-Ray reader that makes it ideal for entertainment purposes. One note though, the GX725 native resolution is 1680x1050, not full HD.

QUOTE(scytherizer @ Nov 12 2009, 09:34 PM) a little enquirement here.. im interested to get the dell studio 15, but direct order from their site or buy in pc fair is cheaper? lol can support left4dead and other high specs games anot? Similar prices, IINM. And I don't recommend buying from the PC Fair, they generally use it to clear old stocks which would mean your new laptop would be anything but. Left4Dead shouldn't be a problem for the Studio 15. Likewise many other games can be played depending on game settings and resolutions.

QUOTE(cain @ Nov 21 2009, 12:03 AM) Budget: <RM5k Usage: Some video editing, medium gaming, heavy multi-tasking (at least 4GB RAM, hence 64-bit Windows 7 is a must) Optical disc drive 14 ~ 15" LED backlit screen (13.3" are popular nowadays, but watching movies on the screen strains my eyes!) I was looking at some CULVs, Envy 15, Acer Aspire 4810, ASUS UL80VT... Love Dell XPS 16's specs, but weight is a bit on the heavy side. Going to US next fall. Wondering whether college students really lug around their laptops that much? If not i'd much rather go for performance rather than light-weights. I'm using an old T43 Thinkpad at the moment. At 2.3kg, i find that i get bruises on my shoulders on the few occasions i bring it to college. So basically my i'm torn between performance and weight. So should i go for the XPS 16? I would recommend the SXPS 16 if performance means more to you than all else combined, not to mention a full HD screen. Otherwise, the UL80VT will be the best choice for a portable performer.
