I've been reading bout Hero some says it is on1.5 some say it is on 1.6. Some way Android market is not in msia. However in imho, it is because msia set is running on 1.5 instead of 1.6. Whr 1.6 has Android market.

Perhaps if you want you can try upgrading to the new rom from HTC Europe site. Anyone care to try??

AFAIK, Android locally are still bundled with 1.5, and I'm not sure the Market's availability is due to the version or not, but I doubt so.

Anyway, I'd like to know, what could Android do in the future, when Eclair is out, and Snapdragon is available for most of the Android sets?

I do not understand why would the sales persons discourage Android. Perhaps they don't really know much about Android (as you would already know, many of the sales persons are not really tech-savvy, i've met a few which has no clue at all)
*
1) thats because there is plenty people like you, who come over the store, and showoff with your tech knowledge that you gain by reading website at home, then questioning the salesperson a thousand question and say "i'll think about it,thanks" and leave the shop. try face 5~6 of people like this in a day and you'll get what i mean.

2) i don think there is any sales persons who will directly ask discourage customer to not get a android, its the customer's right, im sure most of them will hint and inform the customer there is no much application for it.

3) you can say the sales persons are not tech savvy but hey, they do more practical repairing than others. some people likes to imagine they can repair a crash program by going into some forum or google for it.oh well, you know..brick it after that.

my opinion on android based on hero

good(s)
1) definitely hack for fast speed! normal web browsing (not those m.facebook etc) is faster than others.

2) fast respond. compared to window based htc diamond 2, every click on application is fast popout n loading.

3) two way sensor~likes it a lot if u ask me lol

bad part
1) honestly, have anyone with hero/android based ever think of how to close ur browser? at least im not, and i havent figure out how to close browser and other application. u can anytime log back to ur last 6 application without that closing. and i hate it if my gf sees what i browse laugh.gif

2) lousy camera respond after hit. SO SLOW , but well, i read they coming out a new software to improve it,im fine with that tongue.gif\

3) i hate hit sensor!!! typing sms is torture, im not used to it yet!!

4) no garmin!,yes i know, it will have it someday or later. and google map is coming out with a "real" navigation gps soon. beta now

ps: im a htc hero user and i have plenty of sales person friends. and im not a sales person, im a office slave sad.gif

1) You can use a end task application to end the application, android works like palm somewhat, they leave it running in the background unless memory is hogged, then it closed the program. Although i think the system should be improved a lot more.

2)a lot of the paid camera app seems to be better.

Yeah i miss my G1 qwerty keyboard too.

For GPS, use papago or sygic, it's quite good and there is even in mandarin or malay.

aKRia,

Take it with a pinch of salt whenever someone comments...of all honesty, there're bound to be 'bad eggs' everywhere. if a salesperson can't handle rejections, he ain't suitable & thus it invariably shows ie impatience, complacent, don't-care attitude, etc...

also, a food for thought here...what's the use of having a store-front when the reps can't articulate the products they sell? it's just fundamentally wrong that youngsters nowadays think the easy way out is doing sales, yet they discover otherwise, especially the pain in handling rejections. no offense but i'm a 'seasoned' salesman too. what i see in the recent trend is IT reps are getting akin to handphone reps style...very depressing indeed especially when you're in the same line. gone where the days when our reps were much 'customer-centric' & perceived IT advisors/consultants. That's why for pc fairs alike, my company would only select 'weekend-warriors' instead of reps from storefront. they are, imo, the 'last of the mochigans'.

in fact, some reps are plain profit-driven. they only sell those that garners higher commission. that explains why some reps discourages a customer from getting certain products. a plain simple yet effective trick they use is to magnify customer's fear by raising & hogging on the shortcomings of a product against the other. tell me, what product in the world is made perfect?

juz my 2cents worth...peace

i don't think u need antivirus software for android.

normal windows pc virus will not infect android. the only thing can happen, virus will copy itself with u connect to pc that have virus but this will not effect your android.

samething like, "do you need antivirus for ur linux pc?"

iPhone is a good device but it's really annoying how Apple has crippled the full extent of it's use by imposing restrictions on developers, things like disabled internet tethering, restricted application data file access, forced synced-image downgrading.

Having a credible alternative like Android will definitely discourage Apple to continue to behave like the monopolistic arrogant bastards they have been behaving like so far.

*
Yes, thats true. Apple is extremely monopolistic. The 'I' in Itunes, Iphone, Ipod, means the Apple Corporation.

But to give credit where its due, theyve created a global eco-system one stop center in Itunes.

While its Ok to customize, applications need support and revenue to improve, thats where Android as a mobile platform can strike a balance.

A lot of apps on itunes are really good, and Ive known users who have spent hundreds on apps alone in Malaysia.
There theyve already built on a quality and brand.
Android needs to do the same. Creating some sort of platform for android mobile on the PC/MAC where users can browse and purchase apps, not only through the mobile app store

On another disadvantage, I have yet to see an android phone that supports 3g video call. It is probably due to OS limitation rather than physical

Idont agree with one of u. hacking isnt what the android can really do. u can only boot mayb like a custom room thats actually modified. not build from the base. if u want to talk about hacking. its all about linux. noone can deny the power of maemo. its just that not every user can handle maemo. android is the surface of maemo with lots of confetti on it.

Apps and games for android especially free one are growing like mushroom now..
Everyday have latest apps and games or updates for current one..
I'm using AppStore and SlideMe 3.4 to get all of them easily..
Currently using HTC Tattoo and it satisfy me enough to get into smartphone criteria rather than my former Jet.. nod.gif
Yes, Android has antivirus for mobile.. free or paid version(normal right?).. but free version is good enough to prevent harmful 3rd party apps and games(not all)..

My friend had a view on my Tattoo before and he was surprised with lot of apps and games that i had!! biggrin.gif
But, if Tattoo is using capacitive touchscreen... i'll satisfy enough.. But i don't care about it at all.. Because it's my 1st smartphone and it's android..
Don't worry.. As some says that Eclair version is on coming.. with high end features.. maybe android can beat iPhone MacOs one day??
Who know.. Android is still new in this area.. smile.gif smile.gif
