QUOTE(feiraron @ Feb 13 2010, 11:02 AM)
is eterna really this boomy or is it a fit issue  sweat.gif
*
didnt find it boomy...
probably source.. or choice of songs..
or...............

imma basshead? but i dont like bl0ated bass.... hmm...

tried
kitaro - caravansary - 320kbps.. bass, mids, trebles and drums are just spot on..
ghost in the shell - making of a cyborg - Flac.. lots of drums.. but still sounded like i think it should.. not too much, not lacking either

maybe cranking volume would be a different story tho...
still using lowest vol.. after proper burn in baru stat blasting..

wahlawei .. got the eterna dy aa ?
congrats2 .. hehe ..

how's the bass? as claimed is it ?
*
not sure how to reply that..
if people are saying that it is too boomy.. then i disagree..
packs punch.. yes.
quality? yes.
bloated.. no.
muffles other frequency and sounds.. no.
i can say it bumps up the mid lows.. bass guitar, violins, organs.. something i like biggrin.gif..
i have to say lady gaga - just dance.. (or watever it's name is..) would suck big time.. as everything will be sooo boomy.. same as my own sp1
but then again.. i favour clarity songs.. so.. eterna works like charm here..

fy reference some stuff i listen to:
may'n - iteza gogo kyuji, (macross frontier)
noto mamiko - ichinuke, (jigoku shoujo), ashita no te (witchblade)
tokyo jihen - shuraba, (er.. jpop.. probably acid jazz/pop genre)
ali project - akai usagi, (blade of the immortal)
kitaro & los angeles symphonic - mirai e no sanka,
kalafina - oblivious. (kara no kyoukai)
kitaro - caravansary (everyone knows this song)
geinoh yamashirogumi - kaneda, tetsuo, (akira)
theatre of tragedy (gothic metal i think..)

.. come to think of it.. i havent listened to mainstream songs for quite some time..
to me they lack melody...

have to add a bit..

as feiraron mentioned.. the lows and the low mids are boomy..
so i compared it to original sp1.. and the lows and mids sounded too shallow for my liking..
the eterna is similar to my modded sp1 tho.. and yes.. the bump on the low frequency range maybe a bit too much for some..
as for muffling the details.. im not really sure, coz my ears r kinda sensitive to trebles n high freq sound.. they tend to hurt.. so, on eterna it's just right for me.

imagine listening to sounds in auditorium.. or.. underwater kinda atmosphere.. low frequency sounds tend to echo.. eterna has that.

Depends on how loud you guys are listening to the music. I never find that eterna sounded boomy to me, maybe it's because I listen in not-to-high volumes. This is explained in the equal loudness contour, where the frequencies lower than 1000Hz needs to be bumped more on sound pressure level to have equal loudness in phon.

Eterna never sounded that nice out of the box. It sounded awesome after fully burned in though.

never sounded nice is good alrdy.. biggrin.gif

eterna is a pair aggressive IEM

bass impact really shake your ear drum hard. I feel pain after few hrs
in quantity

soundstage quite good but i like IE8 better
*
not to me it isnt..
but i had to eq it a bit to tone down some of the bass(if im listening to normal volume, not necessary at low volume), and correct the highs..

you'd be better off, getting a better amp.
*
not really sure about that.. i hear minor hissing just plugging eterna into W1.. it's a sensitive iem.. :|
it does open up with the w1 though.. but i simply dont like the idea that i have to be listening at higher (more than 30%) volume just so that the hissing is not heard to my ears...

at high volumes it has too much bass though.
*
agreed.. so i only use low volume on it.

QUOTE(weib @ Mar 15 2010, 01:27 AM)
Not many amps are designed to take IEMs.
If you design for IEMs, the headphone crowd will not buy - not enough power to drive some bigger headphones.

So have to compromise inbtwn, but i don't know abt you..
FA products in general quite hard to drive.

Listen at low volume it loses its dynamics and shine.
*
i do find it m04r musical when plugged to a usb soundcard compared to using portable tho.. i guess ur right about this..
so.. i'd say source is very important..

depends on genres.

People who like vocals and classical, will like silverbullet.
Bassheads - rock/hip hop etc will like eterna.

Each has its strong points but they're very niche in their strengths, you can't make it a general purpose phone. Though both a very musical and fun.

If you want something that takes the mold of your source and amp which you pair with your music, then RE0.

But you need a good amp to bring out the bass.
*
hows the vocal of the silver bullet compared with eterna?
i find eterna's vocal slightly off.. i think.. sweat.gif

I've noticed that people who play hifi or are into high end setups, they'll prefer silver bullet for the soundstage is very wide and you catch more details plus the sound is more "balance" sound.

These people are 25 and above..mainly listen to jazz, vocals and classical.

Those who don't, would rather the more fun sounding eterna

These people are 18-20+, mainly listen to pop and rock and hip hop/RnB.

I guess with age as you grow older, you'd tend to seek out details and "accuracy" of timbre rather than just boom boom bass.

But I'm kinda like a hybrid, I like to listen to all genres, so I pick IEMs to my mood.

Jazz/Vocals - Silverbullet
Hiphop/pop - Eterna
Serious audition - RE0
*
from the age rating.. damn i AM pretending to be young~.. ahaha...
and i consider eterna's bass to be just slightly boomy, and eq'able to be very warm and full, just the way i like it. smile.gif
but would love to try the silver bullet sometime.. any lowyatians using this?

PL50 is a crappy iem imho.
everyone who auditioned them after hearing the Eterna and silver bullet, gave me a dirty look.

I'd prefer the pl30 anytime.
I would be inclined to agree, but I've never used EQ - not that i can remember
I don't see a reason to start using it now.

For me, i'd just play around with tips to find the sound i'm looking for.
*
if u dont need it.. then better not..
eq is just an option tho.. and i still prefer not to eq, coz unless proper parametric.. things just wont sound so natural after eq'ing...

Hmm... Thanks for the info!

Actually i'm already planning to get an Eterna, just that i used to own a PL50, so wanna use that as a benchmark on what i should expect laugh.gif
*
expect lots of bass.. nice quality ones tho... but need some burnin to tighten the sound.. initially a bit too b00my..
and also very smooth sounding... also warm sounding, a bit dark as well.

Nevermind, anything i don't like, can just tweak it off with RockBox's awesome EQ laugh.gif

the transition from a bass-shy PL50 to a bass-ful Eterna might take some time laugh.gif

btw, so can i lie down sideways on my bed without the music being interrupted? Thats prolly my favourite thing about the PL-50s, super low profile drivers laugh.gif
*
it's huge.. at first i do have some problems fitting it.. but i figured out and got perfect fit everytime comfortably.. but as for lying on side.. im not really sure if that's possible..

the PL50 lies flush with my ears sweat.gif

not sure if ur familiar, but here's a comparison with my sp1.. and a 5cent..
u'll have to figure out the rest.. again, it's best if u give it a try
