A little update on the DBA-02:
I'm beginning to wonder if these border on top tier. I don't want to say they do, simply because I don't own an IEM that's proven to be in the top tier technically, but these improve on my Westone 2 enough to have to ponder it. Honestly, I can't believe they're this good at $90 less than the Westone 2.
I've noticed that they are fairly bass light, but they don't seem to feel missing bass. Usually I really notice when bass is missing, like on the RE0 and at the time the PFE for me, but these seem to be special. I think it's because they have just enough impact and just that bit much more bass than the RE0 that it isn't a problem. You can always hear the bass, and you can always tell when the bass drum hits for example. It's really interesting how it seems so complete but yet is in the grand scheme, fairly light on bass.
Perhaps one could think of it as RE0 bass done right, though it doesn't really share that much in common in the bass. It's just enough for it to be there and feel it and still be light, it's perfect. These make the Westone 2 seem bassy.
After listening to the DBA-02 for a few hours, I switched back to the Westone 2. My initial impressions were that the Westone 2 didn't have near the extension in the highs, nor the sparkle. The Westone 2 has a much smaller soundstage, feeling almost claustrophobic and congested in soundstage in comparison. The DBA-02 seems to offer an extra layer of clarity across the spectrum compared to the Westone 2. The Westone 2 does sound fuller and is bassier. This leads me to feel like the DBA-02 is more balanced and neutral than the Westone 2 that I thought was so neutral. The DBA-02 feels exactly that, balanced. Generally there isn't much to say about the sound signature, everything feels balanced and fairly neutral, and there are no particular characteristics that seem to pertain to the mids. They're just there, they do what they are supposed to do with detail and accuracy, there's an amount of them in balance with the rest, and there's nothing wrong with them yet nothing particularly special about them. They're simply good, no complaints, they do their job.
These are a fair bit more forgiving than my Westone 2s. These seem to be more listenable with a lot more music than the Westone 2. With the 2s I tended to only listen to the music I had ripped myself and good quality downloads opposed to average downloads. With the DBA-02, I can listen to most of my music again. That doesn't mean they lack resolution and detail, as they don't, they just don't seem to be as critical of your source.

Back from the meeting with the HQ guys -

They came out an impressive range of products with good build quality and range with attractive prices.

FA is a non believer of Armature drivers, they believe that dynamics can do the same job, just as good but they're making it just to show the world they have the know hows.

Initial Impressions -

DBA - 02

DBA 02 is like a cross btwn UE700 and UM2
Unlike the SF5p, the integration is much better instead of having only highs and lows and a hollow mids.

The bass quantity of UM2 and the highs of the UE700
However within its tiny mix.

The DBA is 2 single armature and not 1 + 2 as rumors has

From the VP of FA is that the new eterna will be upgraded.

The new Eterna will be have acoustic dampening to reduce the bass boom.
They will be looking at re-working the cables to improve it.

FA end goal is to provide affordable solutions for consumer class audiophiles, so they're targeting trendy aesthetics together with good quality builds with good sound and reasonable priced products.

Their vision is that everyone can have a few pairs of FA based products to suit your mood and music instead of buying just one and having to hop around brands to suit your musical taste and mood of the day.

Much like woman with their clothes.

I have with me the FA002 which is suppose to compete with the HD650 which is the top seller in russia..

So lets see if its a giant killer...

It is in singapore at the university in town - SMU.

Added on April 12, 2010, 8:29 pmIntial impression of the FA002 -

It feels abit claustrophobic even for an open can, I know it'll open up in time..
The Eterna took about 250 hours to settle, first 50 to make it decent.

I believe with the headphones, it'll take abit more time before I can evaluate it properly.

But its is on the darker side, bass is akin to my M50 without the boom.
It's quite efficient though, easy to drive but pairing will be crucial.

It seriously feels like strapping 2 sub to your head and playing it.
The cool thing about open cans is that the bass will not have boominess yet the punch is there.
Totally unlike grados yet not like M50s which has a very claustrophobic feel.

This is something great for bass heads and people who like their bass tight.
However now the music seems like its playing behind a veil/screen.

Its opening up slowly after a night of burning in, so I'll do a serious evaluation on the weekend and run through many sources.

But like the eterna I'm guessing that it needs a very clean and dynamic source to bring out hte best. As this headphones is very "colored" if you add in a warmer/darker amp/source will make sound soon too dark that the highs will be rolled off.

Three days later....

I feel like my swan has finally awoken from being an ugly duckling.

I paired it up with my Fuze and FrankenCmoyBB which I have been mericlessly tweaking with endless comparisons btwn component.
From my initial impression, I knew this would be pair with a cleaner amp because this open cans can really kick you in the face with bass; i get abit motion sick at times from the bass.

When I first got it, it was crazily punchy.
I could feel my head spring with each beat... this is a bass head wet dream and I mean those you can handle the strong stuff.

The extra cool thing about the bass it doesn't feel boxy from the open designed.
The thick foam pads around the ears helps isolate the sound which played a big part in its imaging.

I've heard their IEM equilibrium the last time and had the same experience but in a smaller way. Those who have it or heard it will know what i mean, the music turns into High definition and not Hi fidelity.

Presentation of the music is that you're in the same room the music is played on stage which is the same level as you.

It its amplified with this huge cans, it makes the music larger than how the can seem.
Before the driver settled it was quite un-listen-able. Too in your face that you'd get tired from the music.

Today, as i plugged it in everything opened up.
The bass subsided and the forwardness gone, the soundstage is in your head.

It feels like carrying 2 boom boxes on your shoulders and having a pseudo imaging that makes it feel weird yet a very fun experience that you've never experience with any other Cans.

It is a fetish for most people and to me as an audio adventure, my kind.

Something you have to try to really learn of its uniqueness.
