ABOUT THE SUMMIT

The Youth Engagement Summit (YES2009) is a platform to create a cadre of engaged, active youth leaders dedicated to making positive changes happen in their communities and in the world. Youths are not just leaders of the future, they are today's leaders in their own schools and communities.
Hence, it is with this in mind that the Youth Engagement Summit has been established to bring together youths, active youth leaders, world leaders in business, government, entertainment, and the general public to a platform where opinions, discussions and experiences can be shared.
The 2-day summit which is hosted in Putrajaya International Convention Centre, FT of Putrajaya, Malaysia this November, brings together some of the most inspiring, engaging Global Change Icons.

WHY YES2009?
How can youth's contribute to the solution of global challenges?

The Objectives of YES2009 are in two folds.

Firstly, the Youth Engagement Summit (YES2009) is a platform to create a cadre of engaged, active youth leaders dedicated to making positive changes happen in their communities and in the world. Youths are not just leaders of the future, they are today's leaders in their own schools and communities.
Youth leaders today are outstanding young people, with a strong history of community service, demonstrated leadership qualities, ability to articulate ideas and concepts and a commitment to a solid plan of action over the coming years. The Youth Engagement Summit brings together youth's to create a community action plan addressing issues that are important to their communities and communities around Asia and the globe. Issues that are linked to global environmental change, conflict and poverty, and wildlife conservation.
They will explore solutions to important worldwide challenges from the impact of global warming to best practices in conflict prevention. They will lead the future Southeast Asia Youth Summits that bring together young people from across Asia who will meet for a series of workshops and youth-led discussions, and participate in forums with some of the world’s greatest scholars, political and civic leaders, policy makers, artists, musicians and thinkers. The first Southeast Asia Youth Engagement Summit (YES 2009) has already gathered some of the most inspiring figures in the world, bringing with them messages of how important it is for youth to help move change forward.
Together, these youth will not only take action but discuss what it will take to break down cultural and trans-national boundaries. By doing so, they will learn how to work together to make a difference and the importance of collaboration when it comes to solving the world’s greatest problems. These youth leaders are ‘agents of change’, able to influence his or her community as well as speak with authority and with confidence and passion. They are not afraid to challenge either accepted ways of thinking or their convictions. They are forward looking, they take their ideas and put them into practice. They accept difference, are flexible, are able to take on new ideas and skills and will communicate them to others.

The second goal is to awaken the interest and heighten awareness of all Asian youth – young people who are interested in change (but are not leadership oriented). YES 2009 is intended to engage them in critical and constructive discussions amongst their peers and with global change icons and respected personalities and motivate youth all over Asia to take a further step towards becoming active members of their community.
In doing so, we hope to engage and communicate with the following audience;

1. Active youth leaders;
2. Youth who want to be part of a movement for the better of their communities;
3. World leaders in business, government, entertainment, etc.;
4. The general public;
5. Media & Awareness

Today’s youth think critically and believe in a better and peaceful world. They want to get involved in global change. They believe that together, they are able to create and/or offer new, original and better solutions to the socio-economic and ecological challenges facing the world today. We have designed YES2009 to be the spark of the movement.
