May I know what's the different between nautilus series and currently diamond series in term of sound? What's the best match power to drives 800 series speakers? Never have the chance to demo 800 series speakers.
What i can say here would be the only thing the Nautilus™ 800 series and the current 800 Series Diamond shared would be the looks externally.
Everything else, is been re-engineered from the ground up to where it is currently.
All these are done with the ever-famous "The University of Sound" R&D facility in West Sussex, England. Technology came out of this R&D facility and also as industry first would be the "Nautilus™ Tweeter technology" in all of B&W speakers up to date, Flowport™ dimples on the bass reflex port, Kevlar/FST driver™ on the mid drivers just to name a few.
This is all the scientific name, but to us who appreciate Hi Fi quality sound, it's how the overall sound "feeling alive" as if someone is really performing in front of you.
No doubt all the speakers in the market, i would say they are good speakers. Including a cheap RM 20 speakers you find in hypermarkets. Because speakers are design to play music (vocal included), unless the speaker can't play any music, then i would say it's bad speakers.
Looking at it, yes B&W speakers demands a premium to own them, as they invest heavily back into their R&D to come out with better product in the future.
Let's take example of watches here, a QQ brand watch (that is the cheapest good watch i only know out there) and a Rolex Watch. Why is there people wanting to buy a Rolex Watch if both the watches show the same time?
Coming back to your question, i would say the current 800 Series Diamond sounds much better than the Nautilus™ 800 series, improvement on the overall sound in the highs, mids and lows with much improved drivers and crossovers inside the speaker.
In best match for power, it is really up to individual to pair with amplifier makers out there.
A good rule of thumb would be - listen to the characteristic of the amplifier sound, and awards for product also recognise to be good in the hands of the pro who have tested them.
I believe video will explain slightly better than i do:B&W 800 Series Diamond overall series introduction
I hope that answers your question.
Keep on enjoying music my friends!
