The Malaysian Internet Exchange (MYiX) is down according to our service provider. All local traffic is now temporarily being routed via singapore and hong kong. They are expecting this issue to be resolved soon.
We will keep you updated as we know more.
Thanks se7en, you guys are always heros! ; )
Added on October 16, 2009, 7:41 pmIt just saddens me to realize that we have such poor Internet/Network infrastructure or management in Malaysia.
Basically anything related to technology, we are still far behind. Take proton for example, automotive technology. After billions being spent on R&D and partnership with Lotus, they are still producing an unsafe car. Fuel consumption of today's protons are almost the same with old generation Wiras. Performance is nothing to talk about and you know the rest. Worst thing is, an "untaxed" Japanese import car can be around the same price, but offering better in every aspect.
Internet, where are we? People are already using FTTH technologies, we are just beginning to implement it. Heck, head over to B-U2U section and you'll see the situation of this country Major ISPs performance. Still struggling with ADSL technologies, struggling with routing and IP address issues, struggling with customer support and technicians who are sleeping on the job.
Household appliances... how many of you actually use it? How many brands are there? How reliable are they? Etc Etc
Today's example, MYIX down for a few hours already. Okay traffic re-routed, applause. But how good is the emergency route? Even other websites like mudah.my hosted in MYIX is not responding. So this was their contingency plan if something goes wrong? I mean come on, this is MYIX, Malaysia's pride for it's internet technologies, it also will be the future of Malaysia's internet systems and this is all the jokers at the NOC (Network Operation Center) can do?
We really need a change to bring the technology-related sectors in this country to be closer to the world's standard already. We are way to far behind. Depending on other peoples old technologies which they "sell" to us for a high price, this should not be the way.
