Hi, I'm a newbie to home theater blush.gif , this is my 1st ever AVR in my life, anyone know how to do the speaker setup? (As shown below is my own settings tongue.gif ) Can teach me how should I setup the speaker level? actually what does it means for "speaker level"? is it equivalent to "speaker volume"? what's the best/optimum setup??? icon_question.gif

The second/right picture shows the result of the YPAO automatic adjustment (which I feels strange/weird) hmm.gif

Thanks a lot in advance notworthy.gif

yes it does look like the volume controls for each individual channel... Volume for each channels is a matter of personal preference so there will be no correct answer to this...

looks like a 5-speaker setup... no subwoofer?

Thanks for your advise! Yup, I got a subwoofer nod.gif

Can I set it to maximum for all channels? laugh.gif would it cause any harms to avr or speakers? hmm.gif

my simple humble input.

tune them so when:
1. You watch actions movie, sci-fi etc, you could hear the 3-dimensional feels as you are like in the movie.

2. When you watch concert, you can feel like you are in the hall watching it. DSP in AV help in enhancing this feeling but must select the one that fit the right size of the concert hall.

So in order to get that, you also need to work on:
3. Some AV come with auto calibration like Audyssey and YPao.

4. Beside level, also consider distance, EQ and Xover.

5. Location of your sub. Sweet spot vs a location for space.

6. Go google and read, many in the web these days that has great advice..... so u can start from here

http://www.audioholics.com/tweaks/connecti...eo-set-up-guide

and here

http://www.audioholics.com/tweaks/get-good...est-performance

happy calibrating... u have a long week end to do it... wink.gif

Congrats. Finally got your AVR.

YPAO auto setting kind of weird la, the left and right cannot be so much off. Where do you place the mic location during the setup?

Mind to share your AVR and 5.1 setup?

I'm using a 665 as well. I think the settings for the right side of ur speakers maybe a bit strange. Near to wall? Have you try to run the YPAO a few times or it is consistently giving u results like this? AFAIK, doesn't take too long to run one. Do you get the same funny right side readings for the distance?

Am a newbie as well, and yes I do realise that there are very few 665 owners as well. I don't have pics of the settings now, but I do the following:

- the front right/left speakers are same distance to each other and roughly same distance to the listening position.
- Try to have clearance of about 1 feet from the back and side walls
- make sure when you run the YPAO, tat there is minimal noise, i.e turn off fan, pc, radioes or any avoidable ambient sound.
- When u place the mic, try to use a tripod, at least for some clearance from your chair.

The mic should placed on the listening position, right?

The Mic should be placed at ear height at the listening position. will try to upload my settings later tonight, but both the front right/left and back right/left don't have such large discrepancies in the level settings. Both are roughly the same, towards +8 or +9. Just curious, could it be the polarity of ur speakers wrong? I.e red wire into black binding posts and vice-versa for your right side speakers? U are using 5.1 setup right, how come ur Ypao still detects surround back left/right, AFAIK should only be surround left/right. Anything plugged into surround back left/right in ur avr?

Bro you use 665 model should be good. let the YPAO do it stuff. Before you do that, set the YPAO to EQ following front speaker so your rear will be automatically EQ to match your front.
