Although my budget was small around <RM2K, I had problems to decide between Plasma / LED or even an LCD, since price of LCD is getting much cheaper for a 40-42 inch full HD. I was at this shop in Taipan which same row with OCBC bank which is the first corner shop when u drive (1-way). The sales person looks like chindian explains very well btw Plasma & LED. The conclusion is whether the buyer wants an LCD LED or a Plasma TV (full HD or HD ready) and what actually satisfies the most when the buyer compare the picture contrast and quality. This shop has Astro Beyond and I could clearly see huge difference btw an LED and Plasma - But PLEASE don't compare the both due to two different technologies. Best to compare LED to LED with another brand or Plasma to Plasma with diff brand - that make more sense and logic. I would say Plasma with full HD with a high contrast was better in color contrast and the display was very clear which I felt it shows the original color of what exactly on the other side. Again the difference btw HD Ready and Full HD there is difference in terms of contrast within Plasma. Panasonic 40inch was selling at RM1799 HD Ready. Unfortunately I was recommended for Samsung LED which of course brighter in color due to LED back lite. Due to budget constraint I bought a Philips 32 inch LED PFL5605 for RM1770 with extended warranty (3 + 2 years) at Legends SS2/75 - the lowest in town I guess. [/b] Hopefully I can get another unit which would be a Plasma 40 or 42 inch but first read this link if someone still prefers for PLASMA - http://www.digitaldirect.co.uk/articles/pl...een-differencesNever ever purchase a TV from Harvey Norman due to the price is away higher then other shops. Agree above - especially when the surrounding lights are extremely bright the better LED looks in contrast and you see better quality in color. Now that the condition of the hall where the Plasma is going to be located is kinda important too - if people in the house is gng to walk back and forth you are gng to see some reflection of their shadow - it is a known issue with Plasma. However there are Plasma which I saw back in Taipan when it was switch off between the few Plasma's on the wall, the one with Black screen was better with no reflection but the one with Grey screen has reflection. Better watch out for that. One thing "Plasma gives a real life color" compare to LED/LCD" - watch for your self in Taipan, Legends SS2/75 and some one mention in Bangsar Shopping Mall in this forum (I think the new one) has a TV shop which can make comparison using Blueray.
Secondly if you are crazy about playing game for long house - you should not stress your Plasma for long due to "burn-in" which can happen but hard to say base on people's comment. I got a fren using Plasma Full HD for 5 years (46 inch) but no issue so far. The first 100 hours it is advisable not to push the Plasma to the max - Example watching to much of animated movies and simply leaving the Plasma to run without switching off (frequent mishandle) can cause life span to be shorter.
1. You will have a ghost image but put a movie in or watch TV for a little while! you wont even notice doing that! Or let your screen banner roll on for 15 mins poof gone! I can deal with that but not when your playing fast games or watching fast pace movies & the screen is bright as hell for one second & goes black real quick & the LCD has a second of old picture frame left!
2. The reason I give plasma the edge is in the quality of non-HD programming. Regular standard Dish (Astro analog) signal will look great on Panasonic, while it looks horrible on LCD Full HD -> Old Astro cannot work well with Full HD but will look better with HD ready UNLESS you use Full HD with Astro Beyond.
3. Here is my theory (whether other agree or not you have to survey all out and make comparison and what you prefer at a very first glance when you look at LED and Plasma)
Want cheap, good and bigger in size - Plasma
Want cheap but also want play game - LCD
4. Plasma Burn-In
Burn-in: This occurs when an image such as a network logo or letterbox bars--gets etched permanently onto the screen because it sits in one place too long (In your case, the game you played most probably had the same constant background image and you played it for a long period of time within the first 100 hours of it's lifespan). In our experience, this issue has been greatly exaggerated. The burn-in risk is greatest during the first 100 or so hours of use, during which time you should keep contrast low (less than 50 percent) and avoid showing static images for hours at a time. Many plasmas also have burn-in-reduction features such as screen savers and pixel orbiting, or functions to treat burn-in once it occurs, such as causing the screen to go all white.
Plasma lifespan: Most plasma makers today rate their latest models as having a lifespan of up to 100,000 hours before the display fades to half brightness. On average, that works out to more than 17 years before the set reaches half-brightness.
I personally think - Plasma Panasonic is one of the best yet your selection is Full HD with 5Million contrast will give you a solid life color. Go for it and follow your feelings - Do not mix with or compare every seconds between LED vs Plasma = You choice is right. My office had a Sharp Aquos 42 inch and just 2 months ago kaput due to power board (just 3 years) and another fren had Samsung bought from Harvey and kaput cannot ON also due to power board issue but replaced with warranty but later sold - But some are still in use, depends if your / or my timing is bad things will happen unexpectedly!
Your 3 points above can be improved within your family members - Practically they should be advice more ever you are purchasing some thing really expensive - How much and which shop have you surveyed?
All the best...let me know which one have u bought:)

Also as below: The lcd tvs have higher brightness and no chance of any screen burn. They are also available in thinner designs and they are lighter. When comparing picture quality the plasma tv have more life like colours, higher contrast and blacks that are blacker than lcd tvs.

Optiplex - You Are The Man and hope others get it too. I am having Philips LED and two nights ago was watching Red (Bruce Willis) with full screen 16:9 and Full Zoom - I start to seeing some kind of color shadow and the back screen contrast wasn't clear. Supposedly expected LED to be clear even movie like Batman all the back / dark spot should be clear. But recently I found out not all movies can be played in size of "full screen" and when I switch to "wide-screen" it looks way better - Any comments on this? Of course the dvd was a RM5 one...not sure of quality. So what if I am using a 40-46 inch led, will it be the same...unsure?

I am seeing two vertical lines while watching Chelsea vs. Liverpool last night and this only can be seen during match time....any experience before or I am suspecting some defect on Philips LED PFL5605? When background is dark cannot be seen, all normal....hmmm sad!
