Hi sifu,

Already a long time since I bought my last tv (2007). Now want to replaced my old 32" lcd tv. Looking for above 42" tv with rm2k or below budget. Mostly for astro and movie.

Just back from Seng Heng and found a few model.

Plasma
Samsung PS43D451 RM1499
Panasonic P42X38K RM1499 (free dvd player worth rm250)

Any suggestion whiich one is better?

Or better up my budget to get lcd?
I believe both model only have 1024x768. Will it be a problem if I played brrip 1080p movies?

Heloo alls!

Planning to buy Samsung PS51D451.
Watch normal Astro, HD dvd movies, maybe blueray in the future.
Is it ok with this tv?
The 51" size, is it ok with normal Astro viewing?
This Tv is HD Ready only, not Full HD.
Please advise.

TQ

If I'm not mistaken, if you go to Seng Heng, you'll get RM2458 for PS51D491. D491 is 3D plasma tv with 1388 x 768 resolution if compare to D451 with 1024 x 768.

hi guys, need some advice and recommendation here.  icon_question.gif
planning to get an lcd tv (budget around 1.5k-1.8k)..
have few models to be considered of:

1. sony 40bx420
2. panasonic 42u30k
3. sony 40ex520
4. toshiba 40av10e

From the review on net, the first 2 got positive review. wanna ask anyone who already use it, how does it perform?
specwise, no1 has relatively low contrast ratio (1000:1) compared to others. may i know, is that just a trivial thing..
while the price difference between 1 & 2 (2" larger) is ~rm200 (1.6k vs 1.8k), which one is the best choice?

no3 is just upgraded version of no 1 (from what the salesman told me), and has same price with no2.
while no4 is the cheapest offered price. (1.3k). suppose to be the best value for money. may i know what is the minus point of this model? if no major issue, maybe i opt to  take this 1.

I bought my lcd tv Panasonic L42U38K last 2 weeks. It the same model with 30K. 38K is specific for certain retailer with all the same function, not an update version. I bought it for RM1.8k. But last month, carrefour had promotion for this model, RM1.5k, but I missed it.

This tv comes with internet function but only limited to facebook and shoutcast which I rarely use. When connected with my home network, I can browse and play directly from my pc media server. This is really a good function but not really useful because I don't like the interface. So far I only try to played 5 tv series (2 of them can't open), 2x 700mb dvdrip movies (can play smoothly) and 1 more than 2Gb file brrip movie (can't open). Because of this, I much preferred to play movie directly from my htpc.

For picture quality, well...before I bought this tv, I already compared with other tv models, (No1, No2 and one LG model). Honestly, I can't see much difference from these 3 model so I end up buying pana model because it 2 inch larger than other biggrin.gif . It totally stand out from other because of its larger screen.

During the demo, I watched Dato' Lee Chong Wei game with the Japan player. For most LCD and LED LCD including the 3 models, I can totally see the ghosting effect when the shuttlecock move, even for RM3k tv. But for plasma tv, the effect is less.

Personally, I think the only advantage of this model is it network function. Although the internet is limited, but if you have other device with DNLA support such as D-Link 320 NAS, you can directly access them. So, I think this is a great function to use.

-about the ghosting effect, its about the motion rate right (60hz, 100hz, 120hz, etc..).. so this pana model also see it?
-do u really mean 'the only advantage', rather than  'the only disadvantage'.
-spec/function wise, can u mention any major pro/con of this model compared to sony 40bx420... currently its either 1 of these 2..

I was comparing with Samsung PS43D491 with Pana L42U30K, Sony 40bx420 and Samsung LED UA40D550 in the shop show room. I also compared with other model but not as much as these 3 models because of their close price range. Other than PS43D491, all other 3 tvs have ghosting effect including Pana L42 lcd tv but the effect actually not really bad. Still can see clearly the shuttlecock but with some blurring tails. Let me remind you, the shuttlecock was really fast so I think it normal to have the effect. I point out this point because when comparing plasma and lcd tv, plasma tv has no/less ghosting effect as observed by me. Anyway, at home, I already tried several HD action movie, but no ghosting effect for my pana tv.

Network function is the advantage because other model with in this price range don't have, at least for 4 tv model you mention before. This is not a smart tv, so of course it is limited. For other model you have to buy separated usb wifi adapter but for this model you can just plug in network cable.

Like I said before, at the end I pick the L42U30K because of the larger screen.
