Need comment on this. realy not sure what to choose. both looks great.

Sony KDL-42W674A or Samsung UA40F5500ARXXM

I notice on some higher end led tvs like samsung or sony the motion or fast action movies were soooo smooth it was like the movie runs at 30++ fps compare to those normal movies which should be at 24 fps. was it due to the refresh rate like 100, 200 or 400 Hz?? these smooth motion is kinda bad when watching movies. feel like a 'fake' one. Hope u understand what i want to say

Both TVs has the option to turn off smooth motion options, so that isn't the issue. The Sony W6 is using a 100hz panel while the Samsung F5500 is using a native 60hz panel.
Both TVs also plays 24p content with no problems, they're correct and there's no artificial juddering.

The Sony W674a has exceptionaly low input lag (measured about 15ms) which is AWESOME if you're going to play games. While the Samsung F5500 on the other hand is somewhere closer to 26ms, still not bad as anything under 32ms is acceptable unless you're playing fighting or FPS games at a competitive level. Input lag tests were done with a standard Leo Bodnar device, so it is a little bit more analytical than it may seem.

In terms of picture quality, I think both have its up and downsides. Interms of black levels, I think they're almost neck and neck but I'd say the Sony is better in the sense it doesn't crush shadows as much as the Samsung. I'm not saying the Samsung is horrible in shadowy scenes, but it tends to crush them a little bit more than it should.
On the brightness side, the Samsung is a brighter display however. The Sony W6 generally has warmer colors than the Samsung and I like a slight bit more reddish-tone when watching movies.

Samsung TVs are always known for saturated colors and the F5500 is no different. A great plus if you like those glorious colors 'popping' out at you and it is something the Sony W6 can't match.

I'm not going to talk about the smart apps though because I think they're fairly general and they do what they do. But thumbs up to Samsung's excellent media file playback support as always, it supports more codecs than Sony. It's getting to a point where you can put any file thorugh a Samsung TV and it'll play without hiccups.

I do like the F5500's semi-matte screen more than the W6 though. A lot less glare and reflections which could be an eye saver if your area is filled with lights or windows. The Sony W6 do reflect more than the Samsung, so if reflections drive you crazy then you automatically know which TV to go for.
One minor thing about the Sony W6 is the cool and stupid-at-the-same-time glow it has under the screen. It annoys me when it 'pulses', till the point I sticked a black tape over it. It's nice on display, but I see no practical use for it at all.

This isn't a full review comparison between the both, but both TVs do perform decent for its price (RM2.3k SRP).
Personally, I like the Sony more due to its very low input lag (I play games a lot, so it's pretty much a major point).

Super! great review. Yeah I checked out both of the TVs. the sony light is great but yes it will somehow distract your attention when viewing some of your movies/film. regarding the outlook i personally love the sony due the slimmer edge compare to the samsung. well at least to my observation. about the smart content I don't care that much since i have the WDTV Live already and I never surf the net using the TV. I also checked the sony tv has an external ac/dc power supply and the input use DC 19.5V like most Vaios. this is great when you are having burnt power supply. easy to replace and the TV should be much cooler since the power box is outside already.

Does this model use the samsung panel? I check some or most of the vaios are using the samsung panel. my choice would be more on Sony since it has larger screen 42" compare to the samsung. I'm about to replace my very old Samsung 32 LCD which is more than 5 years of service. it has a serious backlight bleeding and i dont think it can be rectified. The old lcd tv now got some soury liquid smell. not sure what it is, i think the lcd is 'leak' already  sweat.gif

The W6 uses AUO panel IINM.

Now that you mention backlight bleeding, the Sony does have a little bit more clouding than the Samsung. This is due to the edge lit LEDs.

Its AUO version of "IPS" an AHVA panel. Do u hav the subpixel closeup view?

The samsung is also an edgelit. Infact all F series led tv. The Directlit EH series is pretty thick n is not selling well here.

Clouding is a hit n miss thingy.

Looks more like a modified AMVA than a typical LG SIPS

It's a VA panel for sure. The Sony W8 is using LG IPS.

WHOA! 42W674 for RM1699? Really? Are you sure it is the W6 and not the older EX4 models? Because at RM1699, that's a freaking STEAL!! You could have bought it at that price and sell easily at RM2k.
When is their next warehouse sale?

i can vouch for that price. a lot of brands and models at cheap prices.  they 'lelonged' brand new Sharp Quattron LC40LE835X for RM1.5k. only 3 sets. i missed it. the 3 guys who  bought it were grinning from ear to ear.

When do they usually have these days? Monthly or randomly?
