Just got back from PC Fair. In case anyone's interested, there are 2 distributors selling the Dell SXPS 16 i7, both RM4,999 with 1 year Dell warranty.

One offering some 3D2N travel package, backpack + Nesh water filter. Not the usual freebies. Feels more to me like they're just dumping whatever they have into the freebie package.

The other one (3rd floor, the 1st booth on left of entrance) offering an 8GB pendrive, a backpack and a "hamper" that includes mouse, headset, cooling pad, mini USB hub and some laptop cleaning stuff.

Dear cain,

Nice Laptop you got and i am also interested. But one issue to me!

I7 processor is very hot right?

Mind sharing the I7 Processor and GPU HD 4670 temperuture?

Also, mind sharing the Pro & cons based on your own opinion.

If very good, i decide to get one too :-)

Actually i compared both the Core 2 Duo and i7 price of the SXPS 16 on Dell's website. After i bumped everything up to the same specs as i7 (except the processor lah of course tongue.gif) it came up to a ~RM200 difference. So might as well go for the i7, if gaming is not the priority and stuff.
*
Dude,

i like the laptop you get from PC fair. I would like to get one too tomorrow. But................

The Dell xps 16 wireless network card is Dell 1520 Wireless-N card ,

i personally prefer " Intel® WiFi Link 5300 (802.11a/g/n) Half Mini-card " as my home router is using only 54mbps G connection only. If i customize from the website, i need to wait for 15 days and also forgo/give up the freebies such as laptop bags at pc fair.

laugh.gif Like i mentioned earlier, i haven't got mine yet. Just went there to survey the offers first~

Excuse my ignorance, what's the difference between the Dell & Intel WiFi cards?

Btw, are you going to get the black color one?
*
I didn't read the whole thread, sorry for not noticing.

Yeah, black colour is suitable for me

I think probably Dell N card only support " Wireless N connection " , whileas Intel Wifi can support b,g, and N. Bear in mind that most of the cafe and shops in malaysia that provide wifi service only support G connection.

Hmm... U sure? I thought the Wireless-N card supports a/b/g/n, with extra speed for n? No?

Asked u about the color cuz in case u were opting for the white, they don't have. They only got the red and black at the PC fair. Since u're getting the black, it's all good then ^^
*
Look at most of the people at their signature who own dell xps and post their specification. I realized that most people will change to Intel 8300 Wifi. So i just assume that is better. Sorry, i might be ignorant. FYI, i haven't 100% confirm my choice yet.

Intel WiFi card allows u to have a shiny Centrino 2 sticker, other than that, there's nothing much in terms of functionality...
*
So you saying that Dell N card is no different as compared to Intel 8300 WIFI?

Anyway, for I7 720 M quad core, there will not have the Centrino 2 sticker even though i upgrade to Intel Wifi . Maybe only the Core I7 sticker but without the Centrino word.

Got backpack nod.gif When will you be getting yours?
*
By end of next Week or next next week, but I will definately get a lappy. Still considering whether core I7 is a good choice or not, as the Temperature is quite hot.

I don't want later facing computer hangging issue or the whole laptop burn because heat issue. I was planning to buy a laptop also for long hours use, for about 20 hours a day, or maybe 2 days continue using the laptop.

I am just very interested with Dell Xps core I7 because the specification is very good. However, not sure whether it fix my purpose?

laugh.gif Won't whole laptop burn one lah~ Use a good cooler pad lor smile.gif Worst come to worst it will shut down by itself when overheat...

2 days continue use? U no need to sleep/rest one ah? lol!

Anyway, the Core 2 Duo specs also not bad what...
*
I am going to Australia next year. I most likely using the laptop for many hours + downloading......

Downloading very huge files from direct server or torent may take 1 or 2 days...

Considerating Dell Xps customize Spec with Core 2 Duo T9600 Processor, but core i7 720QM still more worth it...

Well, i aware about throttle performance for other dell's model...not XPS 16 (i7)
But knowing Dell, they sure gonna rectify/replace/whatever it sooner or later.. smile.gif

Based on previous history, most probably they gonna update the bios rather than replacing the power adaptor.
*
Not sure whether updating the bios will solve the power throttle performance issue. logically thinking, surely the laptop need higher voltage to feed the 4 Core for i7....

I remembered that i owned a Gigabyte EP35-DS3 and Intel Q6600 quad core, someone told me it is wiser to get motherboard with 8 pin for quad core instead of 4 pin in order to achieve a more stable performance. Eventually, i change my mother to Gigabyte EP45-UD3R, i find that the performance become more stable and the system can achieve its full potential. In other words, the 8 pin processor power on the motherboard allows more power to feed the 4 Core.

Long story cut short, if they gonna update the bios rather than replacing the power adaptor. Then to me, it may not be worth buying this laptop anymore as i may need to spend extra money to purchase a new adapter. Furthermore, the adapter can run very hot too..........

hmmmm, i didn't say about " asking or calling not to buy XPS16 "

Just that, if everything goes fine, only then i will decide buy one XPS16, Especially the i7 processor. Just doing some research and get some feedback first before buying one.

The video claims that RGBLED Display has 100% to 110% colours

WLED has only 60% to 70% colours.....

So Users of WLED, what are your comments on the " WLED " screen? Are you very satisfy of it?

Seriously, its a great product for its price and there are so many fishes in the sea.. wink.gif

As long as if DELL change the Adapter to better suit the i7 . I'll be fine with that!

Well, ok . If it is still an issue for me in the end of the day. I rather alter my choice to Dell Xps Intel T9600 customize Spec...... Of Cause its a great product for its price and there are so many fishes in the sea.

so the i7 ones have major problems and the c2d ones are fine..?

I think what he meant is the Power throttling & heat issue of Core i7 Processor rite?

Power throttling can be solve by using the 130W Adapter ( you probably have to request for it )

Core i7 is very hot. Idle is already 60 to 65'c . Full loading could be 80'c ++ . But performance wise, powerful lah!

However, I think Core 2 Duo should be fine!

If you afraid to die, then take C2D T9600 2.8ghz lah! IMO, this laptop can last very long too. Furthermore, C2D is actually good enough for application programs already. Well, of cause the core i7 just perform faster in ( video/audio editing softwares and application programs.
