did any1 face graphic card overheating after the gpu overclock even with the fan mod?
i set the core at 700 and memory at 580 which is the minimum.
beside that, i also checked my gpu using gpu-z, the fan speed is only 30%.
any way to increase the fan speed ?
*
yup happen to me too,but last time i can oc 720 590 without getting overheat, now i only can do 700 580 to prevent it from overheating gc.
I guess i need to clean the fan due to dust.

I have zero overheat problem, clean the fan regularly. And you can't increase the fan speed, just do the USB fan power mod I do, that will ramp up the fan speed. When you mean by overheat does it mean the temperature is over XX or is it your system crashed?

erm i've done the usb fan power mod but still the gpu temp reach as high as 100+ degree. rclxub.gif
its only the matter of time whether when the comp restart itself due to the gpu overheating. cry.gif
i've checked the event viewer and the logs there stated that my laptop restarts due to the gpu overheating. icon_question.gif

Clean up the fan, and reapplied thermal paste. If you care about warranty send it back for some cleaning, if you could send it to ASUS Royal Club at Imbi Plaza. Also, don't use 1.2V, at 700MHz core it doesn't need that much voltage, 1.1V is good to even reach ~715MHz

Hi everyone, tried CCC mobilty 10.5. As usual, just a driver update. But its 10x better then the one we get from Asus last November in terms of stability.

Thanks for the update, been using 10.4 for a while. Its pretty stable tho. But I'll try the new driver, for anyone having trouble with BF: BC2 long loading time download the 10.5a hotfix, I don't know whether it'll work on Mobility cards. Link here

Mobility 10.5 download:
10.5 Windows Vista/7 x86
10.5 Windows Vista/7 x64

Hello,

New to the forum, but I saw how much discussion the K50AB was getting -- this seems to be one of the few places on the Internet where people are actively discussing it.

It's a fantastic notebook computer, and I'm largely very happy with it. I've had mine for a year ... but this year, I've started to run into overheating problems. I see a lot of people have discussed the issue with the fan never budging past a certain speed.

Some questions, if anyone could answer them:

1) I'm guessing I'm having heating problems because, in a year of near-constant use (12+ hours a day, every day), dust has built up. What is the best way to clean it that does not break warranty? I know you can use compressed air, but I have heard that if the fan is not kept still you can damage or break it.

2) I see references in a number of posts to "the fan bug", but I can't find an explanation. What is it, and is it something that can help deal with high temperatures?

3) What _is_ a reasonable operating temperature for the notebook under gaming conditions? NSProbe says 90C is "Fatal", but I have seen many people suggest that the maximum safe operating temperature is 100C. Would running at 90C for extended periods be a bad idea?

4) I know there's a hardware hack for locking the fan to maximum RPM, but this is overkill for me -- I'd just like the fan to act as it should, and ramp up as and when needed. Has anyone figured out a good solution for this yet?

I know Speedfan cannot monitor fan speeds. Has anyone tried HWMonitor? Or does anyone know what sort of information is needed to get these programs to recognize and start controlling the fans? That would be my ideal solution: software to mitigate ASUS's failure to get the fan to run at fullspeed, rather than having to hack hardware or do anything that might void warranty.

Thanks very much for your time and assistance!

1) Solution is simple, open the back cover, and before you use the compressed air just hold the fan with your finger to prevent it from spinning, if that makes worries you. IMO the fan meant to spin. Opening up the heatsink fan WILL void the warranty, maybe you could send it to computer shops or ASUS Royal Club to have it clean

2) You ask the people who uses it, I don't so I cant tell you how to do it. I think it have something to do with going to sleep mode

3) You could find reasonable operating temperature on first page, read thoroughly, most information could be found there.

4) The direct or resistor mod from USB power is the easiest way to speed up the fan, HWMonitor only monitor temperature, SpeedFan can't control the speed in K40/K50, maybe you could e-mail the SpeedFan author to include this laptop on their program. The direct power/resistor mod from USB don't void the warranty unless you physically solder it into place

There I draw it for you, how to draw power from USB to fan directly. For resistor value you could try from 3-10ohm, buy from any electronic shop, shouldn't costs more than 10 cent each, lower resistance = faster speed and vice versa
