hi guys,
my poton gen2 have this problem.
1) yesterday : cruise control not working.
2) today : after i reverse my car, it honked itself. then after that i drive for 5 meters. the car just stalled itself and the engine no longer able to start. everytime when i tried to crank start my car, it just stalled off or couldn't be started. after few attempt the check engine panel no longer working anymore, the CEL just doesn't turn and all those indicators just gone off and i couldn't start my car. i have to take off the fuse of honk becasue it will autohonk . btw , the PRND2L panel gear mode is only blinking.

If battery dies, it would have shown the Battery warning light, no??

if the battery dies, why does the honk auto honk ? the battery is still new, it is about 9 month old only .

Hmmm...true also. Maybe short circuit? Did you do engine wash?

Try to check and see either is it Alternator rosak or not... Mine SUV alternator rosak last week, can't start , aircond wont works, panel semua not functioning..

not to forget to check either ur battery water still ada or not... sometimes it dries

Sounds like ur ECU is acting up...

i got check, it is full . i think the possibility of the alternator to be spoilt is there, as probably it drains the power. i tried start my car by connecting cable to another car, the jump start cable just burnt off. but why does it honk ?
it is not only cannot crank, sometimes start 3 seconds and off. .

Added on October 12, 2009, 9:33 pmi am guessing it is the ECU acting up. but the worst problem is why does it crank up so much current until the jump start cable melted n overheated. i tried to jump start another car it works last few days, today it isn't working and summore it burnt .
sigh .

Just wondering wheter the honk is actually the alarm, since my LMST alarm also triggered shortly before the battery fails.

means ur battery is still working since u can start your car.

ECU problem? I don't think so... or not TS try disconnect your battery wires for 15minutes+ then reconnect back. (to reset ECU)

at first i thought mine SUV is battery problem also, because when i stop in traffic light it will suddenly jerks and the RPM meter drops to 0, but the car didn't stalls... then until last week, found out it's alternator rosak already... coz me RM750 for a new one ;(

yes, if you disconnect battery, sure alarm will be trigger.
alternator,maybe. try connect another battery from a car,
to recharge the battery, at least for 30minutes before u restart your engine.

I think better send to Proton workshop to see. Sounds pretty bad.

i've contacted shazmn , he told me his pomen commented on either battery or alternator.

i think the chances of alternator is very high. battery wise , sometimes i still can start and after 1 second, it terus goes off . just like that.

now the odometer etc everthing LED doesn't lite up.i dnt know why, no battery or altenator.


tomorrow i am going to call my friend's pomen to bring a battery here to try to start it. if not then tow truck to the shop .

try rev ur car a lil... see still stall or not after starting the car

hi it sounds like some short circuit. its unlikely the battery jump start cable burnt off. unless its of a bad quality one. just tow it back to proton. unless yours is out of warranty. did u add anything new to your car recently? electrical items?

but the symptom is very like alternator dies off. where the warning icons comes out and then it doesn't lite up.

I'm banking on the alternator too. It can make or break a car sometimes.

have u got the service centre to do a pdt check?

haven't yet. it is at Jusco now , i'm in the meeting now actually. later will call up the insurance for the tow truck.

Im a proton gen2 owner too.
I did face the problem u mention--

--- the PRND2L panel gear mode is only blinking.

Last time this problem occured is due to the Relay of the Gearbox where placed in the fuse box beside the battery.
when there is blinking, the engine stil idling, but the car cant moving, like in the 'N' mode...
I think may b big possibility there is some relay or that could causing short circuit, may b u could try it out.

the problem is fixed . it is due to the faulty clockspring.

the symptoms are steering wheel button malfunction, then cruise control rosak then auto honk . because all those wires are connected to the same place.

The jumpstart cable melted???
Out of curiousity, how did you connect the jump start cable?

yeap. i should be thankful that the airbag didnt deploy due to the faulty signal.
gen2 members should be careful on this, this isnt the first clockspring case, the other member here got the same problem and the airbag deployed.

Hmmm i better keep an eye on my blm air bag. Another design flaw from proton. A safety device becomes a liability instead.

i will post more photos on it soon .
