If you sepnd RM1K or less per month on petrol and groceries then go for OCBC Titanium. Do note that OCBC maximum cash back is only RM50 a month comes 1st Jan 2011 and once you reach the capped amount you get nothing back. In general the 5% cash back better than AMEX Gold CC of 2.5% (5x reward points). However there is one benefit that AMEX/MBB don't give is the RM50 government tax where OCBC will waive it if you spend RM10K per year.
If you spend RM1K per month then also get AMEX Gold CC also and start using it to get reward points once you achieved OCBC max rebate. Conclusion, get both cards.
*
Looks like AMEX Gold CC is now overshadowed by OCBC's Titanium Mastercard which offers 5% rebate for Dining, Groceries, Bills and Petrol; all other purchases is 1%. Only caveat is RM50.00 (max) capped rebate w.e.f. January 2011 for OCBC's Titanium Mastercard.
In short, spend up till [insert: roughly] RM1,000.00 (on everything except Cathay Cineplexes, Kinokuniya, Borders, Times, MPH) with OCBC Titanium Mastercard. Once [delete: spend meets RM1,000.00] [insert: rebates come up to RM50.00 (2011 onwards)], switch to AMEX Gold CC!
Thanks @Gen-X

I bought RM20 vouchers for a total amount of RM800. I remember all the RM20 vouchers in Suria KLCC were sapu by me.
*
I can attest to winner's post above as I checked out Guardian at Suria KLCC yesterday (18.11.2010) - cashier mentioned someone swept up all the RM20 vouchers! No more stock for Guardian vouchers there, no matter what denomination. I attempted to purchase RM200 (RM50 x 4) worth of vouchers sad.gif

However, managed to buy RM200 Kinokuniya vouchers (RM10 x 20) and RM200 Marks & Spencer vouchers (RM10 x 20). Purchasing from Kinokuniya still gains 5x MR.

BTW, after my failed OCBC Titanium application, I was successful with DA and AMEX. Combined CL for both cards is RM20k. Still have no idea why I did not pass OCBC's scorecard, especially when some forumers in the credit card thread reported success without meeting income criteria and sans FD pledge as well. But I am not sore with OCBC and will attempt again next year, unless some better card comes along which makes it worthwhile.

Already charged insurance premium (which is only due next year ie 2011) to DA to take advantage of their no entry cost 10 months Smart FPP. Considering charging big ticket stuff on AMEX this month (November 2010) and apply for 6 months interest free BT with DA as soon as the AMEX statement is out, as suggested by winner. Of course funds are already available but why not make full use of the promotion smile.gif

Amex claimed that customers will be notified when the monthly quota has been hit. I doubt Amex will do so. To play safe, I stop using Amex until 31/12/2010.

mustang, teoanne, winner and Gen-X,

Saw this note only evening today (2/1/2011) from Maybank2u.com at 15% Cash Back with American Express® Cards

[QUOTE]Note: 1 million payout for month of December 2010 has been achieved.

Did not notice that notification when I last checked that page sometime before Christmas. Of course I didn't pay too much attention (and may have missed it) given the possibility of such notice to be posted at that very 'obvious' page.

Anybody knows when that notice first came up, particularly if it was before the end of December 2010? Makes no sense to the public if the notice is posted after the promotion month!

Anyway, I wish to thank all forumers here particularly Gen-X, winner, hye and MilesAndMore for sharing your collective knowledge. notworthy.gif Learnt how to maximise usage of credit cards as well as applied the lessons since I first saw the posts on OCBC's Titanium MasterCard sometime in October 2010.

An example of my applied knowledge is as follows (I hold a DA Platinum MC and AMEX Gold cc, sadly no OCBC Titanium MC as application failed):

1. Planned and purchased jewelry in the sum of RM4,900.00 (after negotiation and price comparison over a few months) on 28/12/2010 from DeGem at Pavilion, KL. Why? Because AMEX 15% cashback and CIMB holiday hamper campaign only available at selected malls (No DeGem outlet at Sunway Pyramid).

2. Paid deposit of RM3,000.00 (although min deposit required is only 30% ie RM1,770.00) on 28/12/2010 via DA and redeemed Crabtree & Evelyn Hamper A from CIMB.

3. Today (2/1/2011), paid a further RM1,000.00 towards purchase price (although jewelry is scheduled to be ready only on 16/1/2011) via AMEX (RM150.00 max cashback per month), leaving a balance of RM900.00.

4. Plan to pay the balance RM900.00 on 1/2/2011 (CNY eve, gasp!) via AMEX to take advantage of the last month of AMEX's 15% cashback promotion.

Reckon my chances of getting the full RM150 max AMEX cashback per month is high. Estimated RM300 plus savings (inclusive of the hamper which I repurposed as a gift to someone else but not including the normal bonus/MR points earned).

For 2010, I also redeemed 3 vouchers for a Deluxe Room at Genting First World Hotel through my UOB Debit MasterCard (all 3 vouchers used on 1/1/2011) and converted my life insurance premium to CIMB's 10 months Smart Flexi-Pay plan. 2011? BT and put the funds in FD!

Added on January 2, 2011, 11:40 pmBTW, as regards the Terms and Conditions of the “Shop with your American Express Cards and enjoy 15% Cash Back!” Campaign, the latest T & C does not contain the words "In the event that the RM1,000,000 payout limit is achieved before the end date of the particular month, cardmember will be notified by letter / sms or published in the www.americanexpress.com.my or www.Maybank2u.com website or any methods of communication chosen by Maybank with prior notice." which was clause 7(iv) as at 18/11/2010.

Maybank also fixed the 'January & February 2010' error which should read 2011.

I wonder if anybody has applied for the Maybank AMEX 12 months zero finance charges BT plan - care to share processing time?

My AMEX and DA statement dates are both 24th/month (as requested by me so as to tally with all my other bills) and come 24/1/2011, I am thinking of paying my Maybank AMEX bill in full and then submit the BT application for Maybank AMEX on 24/1/2011 to transfer 95% of my DA statement balance for the period December 2010-January 2011 (after paying off the minimum 5%). Don't want to incur unnecessary finance charges due to Maybank's possible late payment to DA!

Yes, the last swipe for the month of November made on 30-11-10 was given 15% cash back too. The challenge is December, as we have no idea as to when the RM1mil payout has been hit.
*
Pleased to announce that I received the maximum cashback of RM150.00 for November 2010 as well - credited on 6/1/2011 according to Maybank2u.com

As with everyone else, December 2010 is the critical month...I only started spending at the participating malls on 11/12/2010, last spend was on 27/12/2010.
