Simple, the plat. privileges > points And there's still the 10x plat partners, so technically the plat is not all privileges and no points,lol. |

@ellimist,
Yeah but the Gold card gives 5x for all grocery purchases + petrol whilst the 10x points are onli limited to the Platinum Partners, and honestly there aren't too many of them! |

Well, you could do some rough math and see if your annual petrol+grocery extra 3x points will be very substantial. It's gonna add up to abit obviously, but is it substantial enough for you to forego plat privileges Which brings us to the point you missed.. privileges > points Ok, maybe I'm being slightly bias in suggesting you keep the plat and all,lol |

@ellimist,
The only Platinum Partner I spend @ is Parkson and even then it's on my best friend's behalf. Ah well... am going to just haf to see what Amex is going to offer me. I was going to cancel the Amex Plat cause the Gold was free and the Plat was RM800/year. Let's see if I can get a waiver on this RM50 and I'll decide *smiles* |

I guess unless you golf alot, eat at Shangrila/Westin often, or shop at their plat partners alot; the Gold CC would be better. Plan to keep a visa/mc apart frm an amex? |

QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Oct 23 2009, 10:36 PM) It has been planned and I must make the purchase. And now, I have to use VISA/MC to make the payment.Anyway, I think debit card is quite a good choice now. I have Alliance Premium debit card which gives a flat rebate rate of 2% on all purchases. |

@winner,
Ah well.. at least U get the 2% rebate mah, plus you now can consolidate all your points to 1 bank and make use of their redemption programme Alternatively, give me the cash and I use my CC to sign for U lah. I'm about 130k points short on my Amex to redeem that Tag Heuer watch! This post has been edited by tinkerbel: Oct 24 2009, 02:06 PM |

All AMEX Gold credit cardholders seem to be receiving the paper statement even though all have opted not to when putting in the application form. As long as they do not charge you the RM5 then don't have to worry much |

Let wait and see if MB will send me paper statement for my other CC. |

Currently in the analysis of things, Amex and Diners will likely get hit the most in the 'consolidation' of the CC market..
After some thought I will likely redeem off my MR in Nov and cancel the card in Dec.... This post has been edited by zenquix: Oct 25 2009, 05:44 AM |

@Shinichi
I'm quite sure I opted for e-statement in the form as well, but I've been receiving the paper statements, albeit without a charge for it. @zenquix Yes, unfortunately due to the lower acceptibility of the charge cards in our country, when ppl consolidate their cards, amex/diners will be the ones to rid off |

@ellimist,
SCB in their roadshow's giving back RM50 cash rebate; assuming the banks are willing to do that, we can use this RM50 cash rebate to waive off the RM50 Service Fees. I'm quite sure the promotion is not something "new" [as in, introduced after the Budget 2010 speech] but it got me thinking and i'm quite sure there are ways to go about it. Having said that, I'm probably going to stop most of my CCs and maybe keep 2 or up to maximum of 3 depending on my needs. |

For the SCB rebate, it's probably for the application stage only right? As in from the 2nd year onwards you don't get it anymore. Well yes, there're ways they can go about it. But the cost to the bank can be pretty huge. Unless they're totally confident that with such an offer, they can steal a large share of the market, and ppl will consolidate to their cards. Btw same here, thinking of keeping 2 (including my charge card) or at max 3. Does seem I'm gonna give up the gold cc which is real good, though feel like it's quite a waste to do so |

@ellimist,
I can't give up the Platinum one of mine cause I wanna know if I won the Longines watch. Ah well we'll see how it goes; i'm not too 'kan cheong' over this. Definitely will be cutting HSBC & DA. SCB most probably will go too but that's the VI so a bit 'sayang' wanna let it go before it's even due to be expired *siGh* |
