i have just received my BlueAngel H10R with wifi N dongle.. after a few hours i found its

Advantages:
1)reasonable price -rm430 with wifi N dongle
2)simple to use (i am a low tech guy and managed to figure out how to use it on my own as the manual is in chinese)
3)comes with ppstream and worked fine
4)no heat problem even after hours of hd viewing
5)will convert dts to stereo for your tv

Disadvantages:
1)Fan noice is quite loud, can certainly hear it loud and clear during quiet scene. Couple this with a projector u will will certainly enjoy the 'woooo' fan noice from the projector n blue angel.

2)Video quality is not as good as wdtv.. it is more noticeable on grainy movies. The movie i repeatedly compared to wdtv is the chinese movie Hero. It just doesnt look as sharp as wdtv and seems to have more noice. The difference quite unoticeable on hd series.. the series i tried includes Heroes season 4 and CSI season 6.

3)PPstream is a pain the s to use . For example if u want to watch hong kong series, under hongkong series it only display 5 series perpage for u to choose. If u want the series not displayed on the page then u need to press next page and wait for it to load again. each page will take 7 to 10 seconds. I wanted to watch 'Borned Rich' and i flipped the pages for 15 min and it still wasnt displayed. Just imagine if your show is on page 150, u will need 150x10seconds/60=25 min of page flipping:)

I have not
1)tried it on my avr so i am not sure abt the audio quality
2)tried youtube
3)learned how to use BT to download materials so i cant use blue angel to download anything (i am rapidshare user)

Overall i think it is still a bang for buck product and have no regrets getting it.
I am certainly no expert so please feel free to join in to discuss or correct me if u think feel differently abt the product.

If in this case, one would rather buy WDTV Live for the quality if most of the sources are in HD format and also not concern on RMVB playability.

bought this for my papa n mama.. they wanna watch hd movies also.. so thought ppstream is a plus for them since they can watch free hk series.. and i am not sure if the the current cheap sigma chip players can down mix dts to stereo as my parents doesnt have a avr

1.) The fan quite close with board and case quite small.  2nd batch already change new fan ... but ....    You can take out fan.  (*without fan also can tahan)
Already suggest manufacturer put ontop heatsink ..

2.) Yeah..for me ok.    search google "realtek vs sigma".

3.) PPS software still early stage.  Hope new PPS SDK will improve this.

bro sorry for my noobness.. what is pps 'SDK'

bro mys_terious,

since you have compared WDTV and Angel

if  you could get "hands on" POHD and Xtreamer for comparison too, that would be great..!!!

kinda like the likes and dislikes of your review

gracias
*
sory bro i compared the two coz i own them.. i cant compare POHD and Xtremer coz i have no reason to own so many media players ehehe..

this point, you refering when viewing SD videos or both HD videos as well?
*
i tried HD movies only on a 40 inch lcd .. especially film like movies (sory too noob to describe, for example ancient war movies).. i didnt try SD movies but hd series like csi which is not grainy looks ok .. what i meant is i am used to wdtv so when i watch with blue angel i notice there is a difference, thats all.. it doesnt mean realtek video quality is bad maybe i am just fussy..

I bought this player mainly bcoz my parents need this kind of player.. very hard for me to explain to them what is dts and y their tv got no sound.. i am also too lazy to check if cheap sigma players like wdtv can downmix dts to stereo now.. so just get this all in 1 and reasonable priced player...

maybe you can PM adamw... he used to have couple of units.. maybe sold out already..  or you can consider H300A (the non-disk drive version)

same here .. i wont hesitate getting a realtek player if they improve their pps function.. and if i could add overseas english radio stations it would be so useful.. at the moment only few china stations.. i havent tried adding any stations yet...i tried installed teow chiew station and it worked fine hahha.. i know laptops and desktops can do the same think but this is much cheaper n very convinient.. will be convinient for our wives or parents

i am not sure y i couldnt play pps and youtube today.. it says something like 'media file not supported'.. it worked fine yesterday though.. pls take note that this might be my own fault and has nothing to do with the player.. like i said i am a low tech person.. dont even know how to use the network fucntion to stream files yet hehe

I also got my H10R yesterday from yangxi. So far, results have been satisfactory.

Being previous WDTV owner, I also noticed that video is noticeably less crisp but not detrimentally so, compared to WDTV output using 720p and 1080p mkv's. Perhaps WDTV was applying some video sharpening?

Curiously, the H10R provides controls for brightness, contrast and volume apart from the usual aspect ratios, zoom, search and sound options.

Playing music FLAC files was a miss initially but it worked later on after a few ON/OFF cycles but only for some folders. Will have to check this one out again later.

Overall sound quality was better than the WDTV-better imaging and separation was noticeable in HD movies. Sound was streamed thru HDMI to my Onkyo 805 instead of optical in the WDTV could be the reason.

I didn't notice the exhaust fan noise cos I usually play loud and my HD65 is much nearer than the H10R anyway.

Overall, I'd say its a worthwhile upgrade from the WDTV considering the cheap price.

Are you sure it's not the blue angel wrongly detecting the drive as a USB CD-rom?

I have the Buffalo ministation (not the lite) and my POHD doesn't have problems with it. Been copying to and fro many times already.
*
Buffalo ministation lite works on my
1)vista home laptop
2)wdtv

It doesnt work on my
1)vista ultimate desktop (hangs the pc)
2)xp laptop (hangs laptop or auto play scans through all my movies before it stops or the message something like 'dvd driver detected' if u press ok it hangs.. if u dont press ok then it doesnt work)

3)blueangel h10r detects buffalo as dvd and hangs

If i go to the hdd management there is a partition for 'virtual cdrom' and formated as 'cdfs' file system... i am trying to get rid of this partition... does your buffalo have this piece of buffalo shit vitual cdrom too?.. i have no idea what is the virtual cdrom for.. and cant get rid of it.. it doesnt offer me the choice to format it..arrgggg

My Buffalo drive model does not have this Virtual cdrom.  Sure there is no way to get rid of the special partition through Windows? Have you checked all the buffalo utilities provided to see if they provided any software to remove the partition?
*
nope.. just going to sell it.. i am not interested in this stuff and dont have time to do it too .. rugi abit sell it and just buy another hdd easier

I have the Dvico 6500a, POHD, & WD TV Live. Tested 3 of them on a 42" Panny PY800. Same results as ar188. I find the POHD a bit too soft for my liking. It's not like I'm imagining it. The results are really noticeable. I've sold the POHD since. It's still a very good player for it's price but I prefer the Sigmas for now. Oh BTW, WD TV LIVE is far from perfect but we're not gonna discuss it here.  biggrin.gif
*
i find the diff most easily noticed on old grainy movies... realtek makes it very grainy while sigma makes it sharper n less grainy.. my result might not be accurate.. my result is based on only 1 movie.. the chinese show 'hero'.. quite obvious .. switched between wd tv n blue angel h10 r many times.. but realtek's ability to play real files is very convinient for our wives who likes real series.. i am keeping my h10r
