This is the new home for our dear Nokia 5730

Mission statement:

1. as a homeground for all users
2. as point of reference for technical, functional, hardware, software etc problems and solutions
3. to promote 5730 to others, to grow the family
4. have fun!

Keep in mind this is work in progress. Forgive me if I dint update this often.

3. Firmware, bugs - how to update

How to back up
- you have to use the usb cable.
- plug in, and let PC suite detect your phone.
- goto control panel->system->hardware->device manager
- scroll down to Ports, select 'nokia 5730 express music USB (comx)
- goto port setting-> change the bits per second to maximum (12800)
- OK everything
- unplug and replug.
- Now from PC suite, click on the safety box icon and continue from there. the speed change is because the default speed is 9600 which makes the backing up time unnecessarily long.

How to update


Nokia PC Suite update
- PLUG IN A NON-ACTIVE SIMCARD. someone calling in during the update process may cause failure and risk
- download the updater from here http://www.nokia.com.my/get-support-and-so...software-update
- install it. if you meet an error code 1720, please solve it with this http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/discus...essage.id=56004
- make sure you backup evreything with the pc suite backup
- proceed to 'update phone software'

Over the Air update: press *#0000# -> Options->check for updates->"data usage may incur...."->ok->select a connection->search for wlan.
use wifi to connect, otherwise kena charge for data usage.

A. Facebook
For those without the facebook icon:
use mobile to go to m.facebook.com, log in.
scroll to bottom of page and you will see 'download facebook for your 5730xm'
download and install. well.. basically its a bookmark shortcut to m.facebook.com


B. Internet Browser
There are three browser that i think its good. depends on wat you are trying to do.
1. built in browser
- good for basic function, quick and simple.
- dont expect more from it.

2. Opera mini
- 2 flavas - Opera Mini normal, and Opera Mini Beta
- I am using the beta and it works great

basically what they will do is to reset a code in the phone, set its designated country to be sold (to south east asia)
then update the firmware.

usually aps dun have chinese as its originally intended for other countries, for example uk's vodafone, australia's 3.

anything wrong with the processor speed?

i think it doesnt mean anything... proc speed is relative. sommore this phone is tweaked for battery saving i think thus cannot see the cpu speed properly.

usually what they do is use a region changer to change the region code in the phone, then flash the firmware. can diy.. but i would pay rm30 for it.
