That "SLI license" thingy is usually based on the BIOS.. The driver simply looks for the "SLI cookie" in the firmware, and activates SLI if found. The driver hack merely tries to bypass this check. Anyboard can use SLI as long as have dual PCIe slots, just requires the "appropriate" driver activation. tongue.gif

Anyway, some P55 boards can CrossFireX and SLI with x16/x16 lanes, using the NF200. For example: MSI Big Bang-Trinergy brows.gif

WOW!! P55 MOBO with X16/X16 PCI-E Lanes.
Hope can "hack" this ability to my own MOBO but it seems can't though.
My MOBO have physically 2 PCI-E X16 and 2 PCI-E X1 Lanes but once got 2 GPUs put in, it will become X8/X8 right?
Yups, your motherboard still uses x8/x8 with 2 GPUs installed. The MSI Big Bang Trinergy motherboard goes around this limitation by employing NVIDIA's NF200 chipset into their design. wink.gif

Another board that uses the NF200 is GigaByte GA-P55-UD7. icon_rolleyes.gif

NVIDIA's NF200 what use?
Its a kind of "PCIe multiplier", in other words "creates" more PCIe lanes from existing ones. wink.gif

now I understand a litter anyway does X58 mobo need this chipset to get x16/x16?
Nopes, no need at all... The X58 chipset already have full 36 PCIe lanes, enough for full dual PCIe x16 slots plus another 4 PCIe lanes to spare.. brows.gif

Then wikipedia write wrong ah?
They included the DMI link, which is another 4 PCIe lanes tongue.gif . Quote from Wikipedia: Intel X58..
QUOTE
The X58 has 40 PCIe lanes that are arranged in two x16 links, DMI link and "spare"-based link. When used with the ICH10 I/O Controller Hub with x4 DMI connection the "spare" supports a separate x4 PCIe connection. Future southbridge chips DMI may support a wider DMI.
Total PCIe lanes is: 36(X58 Northbridge) + 4(DMI) = 40. wink.gif
