QUOTE(sordanny @ Oct 9 2009, 11:52 PM)
weiyap u here???

i've just done some r&d on osx86
on youtube it seems plain and simple with insert dvd then point and click install methods
but on insanelymac forums it's the other way round

which 1 is correct???
i'm planning to dual boot win7 & osx10.6
so can i:
1) install win7
2) create partition for mac (not the ntfs one)
3) change boot sequence to boot from cd
4) insert osx10.6 dvd
5) point & click install

Added on October 10, 2009, 12:12 amwow so quiet today....
everybody went out to have some booz and boobs already???
lol
*
yup, correct, u have to install windows first

do i need a pre-patched Leopard DVD to do that???
do just a normal retail DVD?

Added on October 10, 2009, 12:54 amok guys movie time for me
ciao~~~~
*
u can use the retail one, but a lot pf patching works after install especially with drivers ... i my self also haven;t dare to try it yet ...i think u can try out with ideneb 10.5.8 first ... later only change to snow leopard ...

btw, to boot into the retail one, u need to use boot-123.

morning people

so does it mean that if i use a normal retail Leopard DVD to install it won't work as a point & click???
and pre-patched installation disc means those from kalyway, iatkos or the others????
i'm trying to boot Leopard 10.6 version btw

those "guides" available out there is not well written with no pics.....
a lot of them is confusing  sad.gif
*
use prepatched version will save u a lot of works ....

retail dvd is meant for real macs, not for hackintosh ...so i just won;t work straight away ... understand it, apple comes out with that retail dvd for real apple users, not for us ...

so if i install using the retail DVD i'll have to patch all the drivers to get it working??
where to get all the patches??
and, since it's easier to install using prepatched version, where to get it??

no, once u flash the xp bios to shut off the intel's gpu, it's off forever no matter which OS

i don't think i will want to install it the Vanilla way cuz i highly doubt it will turn out to be Vanilla anyway...
most probably turns out chocolate and lots of  vmad.gif

ok if that's the case, can i install using kalyway distro and then upgrade to OSX 10.6???
is that possible???

Added on October 12, 2009, 2:39 pmevo, i saw a comparison between kalyway and iAtkos somewhere and it says that kalyway has more kexts compared to iAtkos so although it's heavier it avoids many potential problems
maybe u should try it???
*
if u wanna upgrade, u will always need vanilla kernel, others won't work...it means if u r not using it, u will need to reinstall vanilla everytime and change back to ur original one after ugrade...it's more complicated and risky

well, nowadays product with qc and without qc is also the same also.. even some china crap brand can have a better quality built compare with some well known 1..

mac osx.. the most easy to way install without choosing what to install.. gt this version exist ka?
*
no such version unless all ur hardware same with a macbook or any apple product....there is no easy way out....u have to go through the learning and try-n-error stage just like me ...it took me almost half a year to find out the most suitable way of installing mac on my s41,5 ...

anyway there's an official site but their download section doesn't have any link for the distro just only the patch for the distro.......
*
it's ot the matter of which is more stable .. kalyway may be bette rif u r using it fora desktop, coz u can get all the hardware same as a mac ... but so far ideneb works the best for s42, because other distro have problem with the keyboard .... only ideneb's keyboard patch works ..

ubuntu also face this kinda problems???
i thought it should be virtually problem free with the windows installer???

*
ubuntu can be fix by adding these two lines to ur /grub/boot/menu.lst

unde rthe lines that start with "kernel" add :

i8042.nomux=1 i8042.noloop=1

very easy , for mac, when installing ideneb, tick the ps/2 keyboard patch ...then everythign will works

then how if the keyboard don't work???
use external USB one???

besides sound and wifi, any other things that don't work??
Fn keys, bluetooth all will work??
*
yes, u can use a usb one ..but as i say, the patch will work .

fn keys and bluetooth work. so no worry ...

network card, wifi only no working ...
sound card is working actually, using codec dump file from linux and AppleHDA patcher .. just that the speaker will still come out with sound eventhoguh u plug the earphone jack in.

that's a mean way to stop ppl to use it  mad.gif
anyway, i download the ideneb v1.5.1 for 10.5.7 iso then apply the upgrade to upgrade to 10.5.8
am i right??
*
no the prob with mac ..it's the prob with benq and its motherboard ..

yes, u can upgrade after that, just use the ori update from applewebsite .

after u install the update, boot into the ideneb disc again to reinstall all the patches, just untick the essential system so that it won't overlap ur OS.

then restart into verbose mode, hit F8 and type -x then enter

3.5K - BenQ S42,Asus U80v
4K - Studio 15 (with i7 proc), S57
4.5k - SXPS 16, N51Vn
i guess she wont like benq s42, she wan good sales after support for example dell etc etc

asus u80v what spec?

Studio 15 (with i7 proc), i dun think she do not need i7 yet... a c2d with better graphic is more important... architects, better graphic is better

S57, same reason with s42, what i try to mean is ... work ppl need better laptop, they have money, just no time, to trobleshoot this and that...

SXPS16 what spec.... i think a 14" would be better for the boss

N51Vn what spec
how toshiba, for example portege M900-S330, because her company got a few ppl familiar with toshiba and recoomend buy toshiba....
*
dell and good after sales service? i dun really agree ..many of my friends complain abt dell, say the repair process always troublesome ...benq is not bad at after sales service de, they act fast also ...even though they are small company, they have good service . thumbup.gif

weiyap, using ideneb, it's just a simple point & click installation???
before installation some bios settings need to be changed and the partition has to be in some strange format it's not ntfs but the one suitable for Mac.
anything else??
did i get it right??
*
simple point and click? lol ...u have to make sure u choose the right patches and rdrivers in the first place ...

and make sure u make active ur partition for mac so that it is bootable ... u can search for the guide in google ... it's very easy steps ... and u only have to do it once, after that any reinstall of mac os x in that partition needs no more make active process

u have to install windows xp first to be able to flash the bios ..

so any other recommendation....
*
actually no matter what brand , once the OS is a windows, u can avoid troubleshoot process from time to time ... for example problem with virus and the slowing down of the system due to fragments in the files ...

btw, is she using any 3D software, for example MAYA or 3Dmax studio?

if she uses only AutoCAD, then it's no prob with any nvidia cards like 9600, 9400, actually they are not really meant for graphic purpose but for gaming purpose...so a nvidia quardo gpu will be more suitable, just that it is harder to find in laptops

to make the active partition bootable use a software called charmeleon/champagne or something with that name right??? I remember reading about it somewhere

and weiyap, have u upgraded to 10.6?? Can an upgrade be applied directly using the retail upgrade DVD??

OK my Mac adventure will start around next month after i get my Win7 upgrade DVD then i'll clean format & install 7 and ideneb

yea, it is a must.

the make actiave thing is not abt the boot loader, u have to go into the terminal after the installation, and type sumthing starting with fdisk.
i can't remember all of them, will search and post a link here later.

nope, i haven't upgrade to snow leopard yet...waiting for my friend to borrow me his ori retail dvd for his macbook

weiyap_tan, the sensitivity in earphone high=good?
*
eh ... consider good ..more important is the ohm impendance ...16ohm or 32ohm will be fine for most portable mp3 device ...those too high will cause the battery to drain faster and also the earphone to sound weird as they are not functioning at the optimum potential difference ..

some ppl like to compare the frequency range as well, well, for me, so long as it stays between 20Hz to 20khz ...it is fine de, i saw some earphone with very loew frequency range to 9hz before ...the truth is their bass doenot even improve ...they sounds weaker and not as responsive as my px100 with a normal lowest range of 20hz
