my idle temp in air con room(in fact, quite cold, 16C for 3 hours edi i think) is 59-62C, and peak is originally, in another air con room, is 96C playing burnout paradise...last night i tried with same settings on my underclocked settings, it became just 93C...so anything below 95C is safe to me XD sry bout the idle temp also, cos forgot to monitor until the room is quite cold, and my cooling pad is running, i think we actually agree on cooling pad have no effect on s42, but i use it anyway..don wanna waste it..

S00J1N, here is a breif review on my comments on s42:
after using it for nearly 1 year, there are just that few complains...first of all, heat..the graphic card is operating is quite a high temp, but, that's the price for its performance..and after a while, like me now, i'm ok with it already.. second, no media key..that's the little thing that u would miss..it's rather convenient, just one button launch browser, next song, etc etc 3rd, the power adapter is big..i dunno how's the others, but this one is bigger then the Acer one that i had..prolly cos of the higher watt
4th, i wanna stress this, is what we call the pain in the arse--the graphic card driver..we can only use certain modded graphic card, and it doesnt really update that often..so that's one thing that u'll have to beware of..but not big deal anyway, cos most of the time new drivers are just optimization on games
however, on the other hand, the benifits are: can play crysis warhead in high setting(slight lag though), burnout paradise with almost max setting and 4x AA, DMC max setting with 4X AA..i mean, this laptop kicks ass..and upon switching to the GMA side, u get around 2.5-3.3 hours, watching HD anime in max brightness also, it's light, can simply carry around, the build quality is superb..using 1 year, and the LCD is still quite firm..
for 1 year now, i still love my laptop..there are all the tiny tiny complains form time to time, but no big issue..in face, i forgot what other tiny stuff that i complained before edi..haha

Added on October 21, 2009, 2:13 pmbut wont the dual core atom's TDP be too high for netbooks, then the battery wont last 5-7 hours edi..

so the new atom, instead of using GMA945, is using GMA3100?? good way to clear old stock...
sordanny...the one for W7 by asus i not sure yet..but right now, the highest scode for 3D mark is DoX's 185.85...it's 5.8k in 3D mark 06 right?

astria, their initial lalabee integrate on CPU plan now become atom + GMA945? lol... and allow 3D party HD decoding..that means ION is officially recognized by intel now?

ION is fine...ppl tested it, can run CoD4 with some lag issue..but for a netbook, that's damn impressive..ION 2 is announced, it will have 2x the shader processor as ION currently have...and with this new dual core atom..i think the age of netbooks are here...
anyway astria, something about CPU..2 CPU with same clock speed, but different FSB, the one with higher FSB will perform better? and if so, why a?

ION is a platform..it's Intel Atom + NVidia 9400M, hardware right now it's major hit in netbook range..cos according to a presentation quite long time ago, the atom + GMA 945 is just 5W lower compared to ION..and ION offers significantly better performance over the other one, and 5W will only affect another 10-20 minutes battery depending on how u use it

weiyap, i have that planning also...then imagine u have plasma TV that time...no need blueray drive liao..just download get urself some HD movie, HDMI out to plasma can liao...and maybe even have 5.1 surround since some graphic card can handle audio also?
Added on October 21, 2009, 3:30 pmfongzai, that one i don think it will happen..cos most of the time netbook is just for surfing net, portability..manufacturers clearly understand and also try to draw a line between netbook and laptops..maybe in the future laptops would have higher performance la, but netbook with hybrid..i don think they have the space for it also...

ya, that's why i say performance netbook will not appear..they don have space for it...even now also u can feel from the surface that manufacturer try to cramp everything into a netbook

just played L4D for the time i went missing XD max setting with 2x AA, this one last time shoots up to 95C instantly...but guess what..i got only 94C peak, normally 93C but mine is also because i downclock my GPU and increase my core speed..so not exactly the original heat

QUOTE(sordanny @ Oct 22 2009, 12:09 AM) xiong, S42 why so hot playing left4dead? s42 play any game also hot de...as long as the temp is not above 95C then it's ok liao... also, i max settings ler...source engine is scalable, where minimum is really quite minimum, and max, in additional with L4D's customizations, is consider similar to RE5, slightly less demanding i think.. @astria: i think my friend's P4 'pres-hot' is running 80C at peak..he mentioned that one last time
