Another served from ookla.com Link: http://www.pingtest.net/Just tested... 3 October 2009: BETA 13 December 2009 No longer BETA. What about you guys, is this accurate to you anyway...? QnA ( Quoted from http://www.pingtest.net/help.php )
What is the best way to use Pingtest.net? Pingtest.net initially recommends testing locations based on what it thinks is the shortest physical distance between you and our servers. However, because the Internet does not operate in direct paths, this recommendation may not be ideal. To best utilize Pingtest.net, find the server that provides the fastest and most consistent results and set it as your preferred server in the settings above. Then test against that server frequently to identify trends and make sure you are getting what you expect from your Internet connection. You can review the history of your tests and share them with others.
What must be installed to use Pingtest.net? Pingtest.net should work in any web browser that supports Flash. At least Flash 9 is required to use the current version of Pingtest.net. Those with a version earlier than 9 will not be able to use the application. JavaScript is also used heavily throughout the site (even to display the Flash), so make sure you don't have it disabled! Finally Java is required for the packet loss test. If Java is not installed and enabled then the packet loss test will be skipped
What does my grade mean? This is explained best in our Learn More section. It is based on MOS.
What is MOS and how do you calculate it? The Mean Opinion Score (MOS) is an indication of the quality of a voice conversation. The MOS ranges from 1 to 5 with 1 being the worst and 5 being the best. The MOS is usually a subjective test where listeners rate sound quality. Pingtest.net uses an algorithm based on the three test components to estimate the MOS that would be typically obtained by a connection with these results.
Why does my grade have an asterisk next to it? This means that we were unable to use the three metrics to determine your grade. This is usually because the packet loss test failed to complete.
Why was I unable to run the packet loss test? The packet loss test requires that a Java Runtime Environment be installed on your computer. Also your firewall must allow the test to communicate to the Pingtest.net servers (specifically outbound port 5060 for both TCP and UDP). If our test is unable to communicate with Java or the packets are getting blocked by a firewall then the packet loss test will be skipped.
What is packet loss? Much as it sounds, if you have anything less than complete success in transmitting and receiving "packets" of data then you are experiencing this problem with your Internet connection. It can mean much slower download and upload speeds, poor quality VoIP audio, pauses with streaming media and what seems like time warping in games -- your connection may even come to a total standstill! Packet loss is a metric where anything greater than 0% should cause concern.
What is ping? This measurement tells how long it takes a "packet" of data to travel from your computer to a server on the Internet and back. Whenever you experience delayed responses in Internet applications - this would be due to a higher than desired ping. Similar to packet loss, lower is better when it comes to ping. A result below 100 ms should be expected from any decent broadband connection.
What is jitter? Once you understand ping, jitter should also make sense. Jitter is merely the variance in measuring successive ping tests. Zero jitter means the results were exactly the same every time, and anything above zero is the amount by which they varied. Like the other quality measurements, a lower jitter value is better. And while some jitter should be expected over the Internet, having it be a small fraction of the ping result is ideal.
Why does Pingtest.net say I need at least Flash version 9 when I already have it? Pingtest.net uses the very popular JavaScript package SWFObject to detect your Flash version. If you are certain that JavaScript is enabled, then there could be an error in your Flash installation. This problem is usually solved by uninstalling and then reinstalling Flash.
Can I remove past results from my history? Yes! You can hide past results using the panel labeled 'Hide Results Before' on the Your Results page. Simply select a date by clicking on the small calendar icon. The page will be refreshed and only display results of tests taken since the date you selected.
Can I download my past results in a file? You sure can! This is done via the "Download in CSV Format" link above the Results History section on the Your Summary page. Note that it downloads all results for the IP address data you are currently looking at.
Why don't my settings changes save? Pingtest.net uses web browser cookies to save your settings. You likely either have cookies disabled or a third-party application is blocking them.
How does Pingtest.net know where I am? Your location is determined based on your IP address. Pingtest.net uses GeoIP data from MaxMind to position you on the map and determine your closest server. You can learn more about the MaxMind GeoIP data here.
Why does Pingtest.net think I am somewhere that I am not? While the information in MaxMind's GeoIP databases is very accurate, it is not perfect. You can see exactly where they think you are here. The data is updated monthly, so there is always a chance that an inaccurate record gets corrected next month.
How is the distance between me and the testing server calculated? Mathemagics! We use some fancy geometry to measure the distance between two points on a sphere. One point is the latitude and longitude of the server while the other is you.
Why don't I get my best results to the server that is closest to me? The Internet does not operate in direct paths. A server might be physically close to you, but the route to get it it could actually travel to another part of the country and back before getting to it. The server with the shortest "network distance" should end up being your best, and while this is often the closes one geographically it sometimes is not. Try several servers to find your best one.
Why are my test results not showing up in my history? Past tests are shown per unique IP address. At the top of Your Results, there is likely a drop menu for your IP address. Check to make sure you are viewing your current IP address.
Why have you incorrectly identified my Internet provider, and how can I get it fixed? We also use MaxMind's data to identify your Internet service provider. Like locations, this is not always accurate. If it is incorrect, then hopefully it will be fixed in the next month or two. You can see who they think your ISP is here. If you work at the ISP and are the owner of the netblock, then you can email MaxMind the corrected details. This post has been edited by pengiranijam: Dec 14 2009, 06:00 PM

Added on October 3, 2009, 3:25 pmLA, USA. I dont really like the grading of pings tho. A 212 ms ping to USA is considered good actually. It should belong in B category. Plus my IP is 218.111, so there is no packet loss to USA... hope they revise the grading system that is why i vote for others:please state reason This post has been edited by andrew9292: Oct 3 2009, 03:26 PM

Pingtest.net requires Java for packet loss testing, but it does not appear to not be installed in your browser. Click here for assistance.

I've just done a fresh format & re-installed Java 32-Bit & Java 64-Bit twice on my system and they are of the latest version but packet loss is still at 90%. I'm not hoping much since I'm living in a 14 year old area. But then, I also don't care much since I didn't have any problem with my connection.
