i just went to Toyota SC. Showed them my exhausted tire that is with the car from day 1, which is about 1 year ago, they said they will charge me for alignment but will replace the tires for me for free.
after i come home only i realize, why I am charged if seems they admit it's part of the problem.

any1 encountering vios J with goodyear GT3 exhausted after 1 year? it's only at front wheels edge. heard they r going to change it to GT5 or some xx5.

i came across this issue too ... im not using GY GT3, change after got the car... a friend of mine say i like to push corner in and out that cause my outer tread wear out faster ...there is a stage a change my wheel camber to -2 and toe is 5 ... the outside wear have reduce but other new issue came in... very hard to drive in a strait line it is easy pull from left and right...

now im learning how to drive at a lower speed to prolong my tire...

i found in another forum there is a guy facing uneven wear for his rear tire, after checking with SC they say it was torsion beam suspension arm that cause this issue.
*
my wear pattern is only at 2 edge of both front wheels. at first i thought i didnt fill up the air properly n therefore hv this kind of issue. but after checking with SC, they quickly give a conclusion that can change for me without charge for the tyres and only charge alignment which makes me feel kinda weird. i hv been asking SC to adjust suspension noise at almost every service appointment. when they mention tightened screws, noise problem get better and then eventually will return after a period of time.
like u said, another possibility is i take corner too fast. but in terms of speed, unless vios j is so imbalanced, dont think the tyre wear out so fast as the fastest i take corner is 60km/h, which is only at smooth curves. but i do hard brake at times, but i feel the wear out pattern is strange.

another phenomemon i still fail to convince SC to check for me is my front part of the car vibrate when breaking from 80/100km/h to 60km/h. the vibrate only happens at range of 65-60km/h and none at braking after or below. now i m hoping changing to new tyres will solve this, or mayb not.. waiting for the sign to bcome more obvious n consistent.

front wheel is your problem actually further more u say u have used for 1 yr around 30k km i think... for me i think that wear is cause by urself coz u did not do rotation of tires urself every 10k km (recommended by tire manufacturer)... because of our cornering sure the outer part of the front tires wear off faster and especially on the left side...
so please go and check ur thread wear every month if found pretty unbalance wear on the front left vs right, ask the tire shop to do rotation for you... cheers...

FYI please check ur tire pressure and if you drive more than 1km (even in the nite) b4 u check ur pressure please add in another 1~3 PSI on top of the recommended air pressure... that is wat being told by the SOP tire pressure checking...
a car tires should more be used more than 3 yrs OTR or 5 yrs from the date of manufactured (maybe u bought a tire which manufactured 3 yrs ago)... so take note k... smile.gif

for the vibrating issue might be caused by ur Disc roto or the Disc brake itself... check as SC to check then double confirm with mechanics outside also... 2ndly check ur wheel balancing also that...

thanks for ur reply. however, strangely the SC guy mention it's common problem for Goodyear GT3. Therefore he mention i need to replace them. I did asked SC b4 if i need to rotate the tire at the 1st 10k km service but they mention no need. Earlier this week was only 20k km service. I agree with you that the wear is cause by myself if it's not a bad batch of GT3. For the tire pressure part, I filled up according to the manual book. After I found out my tyre wear pattern only I fill up +5 psi than the recommended numbers stated at driver side A pillar, which didn't help in slowing the wear. Waiting to get reply from SC upon availability of replacement tyres.

There is a problem with their tyre selection and they are keeping mum about it in order to reduce the cost of replacement or avoiding a total recall for Vios J. My bro's J also experiencing it. It has to be the tyre. Another colleague of mine who also bought J does not have this problem when he changed his tyre and rims. Obviously UMW is trying to cut one corner too much and are gonna pay for it. If you corner a lot, yes, the edge/side will wear faster but not this fast. The wear rate of the side is just too much. I also urge my bro to fight for it as he also did allignment on every visit.

As for vibration, it could be your wheel is not totally balance or the wear on the brake disc is not even. Im not sure if it works for J. My 1st gen Vios also have this problem. High speed braking is prone to vibration. Doing an on-wheel balancing does reduce the vibration by quite a lot.

Vios resell value is quite high IMO. Some still prefer the first gen looks which explained why it was priced higher I think.

do hope to check with other J owners. Talked to SC again and this time the information they give is the tyre design spec doesn't match vios J. i still couldnt get written log to persue this complaint. they promise to replace in 1 or 2 weeks time, which i m yet to get confirmation.

i wouldnt bother sending for outside alignment or balancing as this would give them an excuse that i tempered ther car setup n thus voiding my warranty. for some lucky ones where their GY GT3 are doing fine, i guess ours could b a bad batch of tyres, which UMW seems to b covering up. i m not happy with their decision to not releasing this important piece of info. Lifes are on their hands.

my J registered end Oct 2009. Manufactured date should b aug/sept 2009. how about urs?

edit: for those affected, the tyre hv a tendency to skid at wet road. pls b informed.

that thinking is not correct... u do own alignment does not tempered ur warranty as u only wan to do alignment...
i did checked once... my Vios is out by 3 degress... and we had a complaint with a free alignment from the SC around 1 months ago... that time was driven by my mum... u think la... how can it run out by 3 degree after only 1 month some more driven by auntie at average around 60~80 km/h only (at Ipoh)...
that is very subjective... tires GT3 sucks maximum... tat tire can throw away if you wanna have more safety... change it to XM1, or others with better traction will help u... it is like ur shoe... my NCT5 with my Vios '05 left 40% trade in already,  another left 50% come with my 2nd hand rim on my SEG same case... GY low end tires really is a big disappointment...
*
thanks for ur input. which model of vios r u driving currently?
i think wat ur trying to say is check alignment since u mention u get free alignment adjustment from SC. that i understand wouldnt void the warranty. agree with ur view regarding the warranty. i just get too skeptical with the fellas in SC.

michael, read from ur previous post that GY NCT-5 is rubbish. Toyota SC just replaced my GT3 with NCT-5 due to the tyre eat 1 side problem. Is it really that bad in wet or downhill? Reason being, thinking to sell them off when it's still new now and get a new set of PP2.
1 funny thing is i hv to pay for the alignment/balancing to get my tyres replaced. n also they refuse to replace the spare tyre saying it's not "on the wheel".

hei,
anyone here change their tyres during warranty period before?
i manage to do it in PJ service centre for oni RM7x for 4 tyres
they said claim from toyota wan
*
were ur old tyres goodyear gt3? the RM7x is the cost of tyre or cost of balancing?
there's a silent replacement program for owners with an affected batch of GT3 tyres.

does the sound proofing really work on the tires area? i sound proof my 4 doors and it didn't really work. the tire noise is loud and whenever i go speeds of 110km/h, i need to turn the radio louder.
*
my 08 vios J is doing the same. i thought only J has the least sound proof. I've forgotten if i felt the same when i first collected my car. only thing i know now that the road noise is so loud that i need to push up radio volume. i remember the radio is visible at volume level 10 to 13. but now i notice i need to go 20 to 24...

recently, i notice when braking there's a krak noise. send my car back twice n the conclusion is need to skim the brake disk. is this a common problem? i worry the problem will still b there even after they skim since they didnt get it right after 2 service center visit.
