PETALING JAYA: The resignation of LCL Corp Bhd chief operating officer (COO) Michael Tan Jin Sun is due to personal reasons and not related to the group’s weak financial results over the past three quarters as its interior fit-out (IFO) business in Dubai was badly hampered by the global economic slowdown.

A source close to Tan told StarBizWeek that he was exploring several options, including taking up an initial public offering consultant and advisory position for companies seeking listing on Bursa Malaysia.

“Tan’s decision to resign was made known to LCL group managing director Datuk Low Chin Meng months ahead,” the source said, adding that Tan joined LCL early this year. “Low temporarily assumed the COO’s responsibilities until a new replacement could be appointed,” the source added.

LCL recently came under heavy criticism by research houses following the group’s three consecutive quarters of losses and high borrowings. For the second quarter ended June 30, it posted a net loss of RM18.1mil on revenue of RM105.6mil.

Overseas business contributed about 80% to the group’s revenue, of which 75% was generated by IFO business in the United Arab Emirates, mainly Dubai. LCL’s business fell victim to the tight liquidity situation in Dubai following the global economic downturn.
