S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call Of Pripyat

Here is the 3rd installment of the first person shooter game from GSC it is call: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call Of Pripyat

According to this website: http://news.bigdownload.com, it said the new game has been released in Russian version, though, it has no word on the US release yet.

This game has been officially released on 5 Feb 2010.

The following interview are taken from: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/05/25...all-of-pripyat/
QUOTE
The announcement of a new Stalker game, Call Of Pripyat, offers an intriguing prospect. It’s a trilogy-completing work – with Clear Sky acting as prequel – and it proports to show what took place in the zone after the events of Shadow Of Chernobyl. The initial announcement seemed to promise a great deal: enhanced A-Life, more freedom, and more survival conditions to consider. But what else is in there? And what did the Ukrainian company learn from Clear Sky? GSC’s Oleg Yavorsky took some time out to answer our questions, and to reveal a bit more about Call Of Pripyat. Foolishly, I forgot to ask about the mystery of the bread. (The images in this article can be clicked on for their full-size.)

RPS: Do you think you learned any important lessons from the release of Clear Sky? Has that shaped how you’ve approached work on Call Of Pripyat?

Yavorsky: Clear Sky has been a good lesson for us indeed, primarily in the aspect of game stability and playability. There were a lot of changes both in technology and gameplay that we did for Clear Sky, but we had no time to polish and fix everything as proper before the release. With Call of Pripyat now we are taking a safer route by, firstly, building the game on the technology we’ve been polishing since Clear Sky, secondly, getting rid of some features which did not work out well – such as global war of factions, for example; and thirdly, by taking more serious approach to testing the game.

RPS: Can you tell us about the new areas of the zone that Call of Pripyat will include? How much of this new material is taken from the real Chernobyl zone?

Yavorsky: We will present a complete set of new locations in Call of Pripyat. This includes the Pripyat river basin and its rusty fleet standing still for over 20 years now, the Kopachi village completely buried after the accident, Jupiter factory located on the outskirts of Pripyat, the railway station Yanov, and, to crown it all – an entire district of Pripyat, modeled in its real scope. Many players have repeatedly asked us to implement Pripyat in the game, so we decided to satisfy their wish.

I think Call of Pripyat will be the most photo-realistic, and hence, atmospheric S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game of all three.

RPS: Can you explain how you’ve changed the A-Life system for this new game?

Yavorsky: Firstly, we picked the best-liked features from SoC and CS games to preserve them in Call of Pripyat. Secondly, we added a number of touches to make the world and its atmosphere more believable. Hence, day and night cycles will affect the behaviour of both monsters and NPCs: monsters will be more active and go hunting prey at night, while NPCs will try to find shelter and return to bases after seeking artifact and day-patrolling as night descends. To liven up the game world, each character/monster has been attributed their deadly enemies. Mutants hunt humans, bandits are after neutral s.t.a.l.k.e.r.s, Duty faction is after mutants.

Thirdly, hunger and sleep will have their effect too in the game: if the player is hungry, it will take him longer to restore his stamina. Sleep function will help you to refresh yourself, so as to speed up the time a bit (which may be useful in case you have a night mission designated to start at a particular time at night, for example).

This said, we gave all monsters an updated look, changed their behaviour in combat (so as to make them tougher and more interesting to fight with), added a couple new monsters – Burer and Chimera.

RPS: How much inspiration do you take from the work done by the modding community on the previous Stalker games?

Yavorsky: We are very pleased to see how active the modding community is with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. – we’ve seen a number of interesting modifications done by the fans (AMK-mod, for example). When it comes to development of the next official games, however, I’d say we rather build them the way we see as proper and our own style, rather than copy mod-makers’ ideas. Our ambition is to present players our own S.T.A.L.K.E.R. as we see it (and we still have a number of ideas to get implemented). Nevertheless, we do listen to a lot of feedback received from players and their wish-lists. It helps us make decisions on which directions to take for the series.

RPS: From the patch notes: “Sleep function added into the game.” That’s a function that was unlocked by several mods…

Yavorsky: As opposed to pure story presentation element, the sleep function this time will have its gameplay role. As mentioned, you can take a nap to save time and not walk about in wait for your mission to start at a certain time. After sleeping your character will also restore his powers. You will only sleep in safe dedicated spots, such as s.t.a.l.k.e.r. bases, for example.

RPS: Can you explain how the game will be playable “after completion in a freeplay mode”? Is this tied to the extended side-quests?

Yavorsky: The freeplay mode is designed for those players, who prefer to stay in the game and explore as much as they want without the need to re-play it to see all of it. So, you’ll be able to travel freely, enjoy the A-life around and accomplish quests you missed during the playthrough.

RPS: Do you expect to return to the underground “horror” sequences of the original Shadow Of Chernobyl?

Yavorsky: We will provide a couple underground locations for players to explore in Call of Pripyat, so beware of spooky monsters!

RPS: Replacing English dialogue with the original Russian dialogue seems like a popular modification – have you considered an all-Russian dialogue option with English subtitles, as CD Projekt did with Polish in The Witcher?

Yavorsky: Thanks for the idea! At least part of our S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games has been in Russian already (such as campfire stories, combat shouts (predominantly rude ones!)). We’ll consider adding even more of the language flavoured with vodka, bears and balalaikas.

RPS: Is there much you still have to do with the original Stalker setting? Can we expect another “new” Stalker title from GSC one day?

Yavorsky: I assure you there’s a lot of ideas still untouched about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe and setting. We are building plans for the full-fledged sequel game, but it’s too early to talk about it at this point.

RPS: Thanks, Oleg.

BA-BUMP!

Just a small update, CoP has been released today.

Received mine in the mail this morning, got it installed, started playing and was blown away. Now this... this............ IS HOW STALKER SHOULD BE LIKE!

PS - Find Putin, Ahmedinejad in the game. GSC rendered them for lulz.

The new system for mutants is exhilarating to the point where I literally yelled out in my flat when i was attacked by mutants. Some mutants DO hunt at night and are much cleverer due to the upgraded AI. Sleep function works wonders when you don't want to go about in the middle of the night and you can't see anything.

Same as kianweic, I have not finished the first one.

The full complete mod package for the 1st Stalker makes a huge huge difference in term of gameplay and graphics, make the game look totally on par with the games coming out today. Very impressive modding work and at least one company that really open their games for modding

I read a review of Pripyat on another site and they were saying that at least for that one it seems pretty stable and more or less bug free, good to see progress in this field.

Yes... it's pretty much bug-free unlike the first two games. The faction system which was really really messed up has been removed. The inventory system has been improved, UI looks nice although it might seem cluttered to a lot.

The best part is? It retains all the moddability of the first two games. biggrin.gif

This game is far more difficult than Fallout 3.

Gunplay is better.

No so much interactions with NPCs compared to Fallout 3.

Metro 2033 seems to be more "destructive" than Stalker so far from what I see... Still downloading my copy of Stalker CoP from Steam with my S.L.O.W. internet speed, probably will finish by Tuesday... doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif

Since Metro 2033 is developed by someone who original from GSC, I might as well try that game out later brows.gif , should be a nice game.

I love Stalker, from those trailers I see from YouTube, it seems this time is HELL lot more harder to fight those mutants... doh.gif The bloodsucker just keep running on and off, hardly see where it is, moreover how to shoot it... doh.gif Looks nice, this time around the helmet is saperated from suit, and can carry 2 rifle at the same time rclxms.gif Definately good changes thumbup.gif

IIRC, Metro 2033 has a more linear gameplay path than Stalker; going for a more cinematic route.

Ok, I knew the anomalies stuff but not that they ended up throwing stuff around, only played a little of the original STALKER yet (too many games, not enough time).

How is Pripyat then? Not too restricted with only 3 maps? Lots of stuff to do in it?

There actually a registered Official Stalker Mod storage at FileFront.com,
the link is http://stalker.filefront.com
you can find all kind of modes for all the Stalker Series there. =D

Well the stutters problem occurs quite often anyway, especially in SoC. Since ClearSky they did some fix and I felt less stutters.

Call of Pripyat's ending is better made than Fallout 3.

ouhh actually the graphics are awesome la.

from my experience even with the very first stalker series, the graphics are way nicer than the over-hyped Crysis.

gameplay wise it could be boring to some. I finished Stalker but for Stalker:Clear Sky, aihh....... quite tired to play already.

one thing I really really really hate about Stalker is that once you patched the game - all saved games go bye bye. It happen in both S and S:CS. sad.gif which is why I didn't finish Clear Sky, I patched the game with the thought that the devs would've avoided that same mistake but unfortunately they didn't learn and my saved games were not playable, so i decided to not continue it.

I like that S:CS actually has a use for the money earned. biggrin.gif unlike the original where i had so much money and nothing to buy. tongue.gif

SoC was not quite optimized, and caused pretty laggy gameplay... The graphic of SoC already enough to scare most people away (ahem, I means makes people feel SCARY tongue.gif ...)

Still downloading CoP... zzz... I ran the benchmark software and it ran pretty good on high settings... Hmm~ hmm.gif

Yeah the money in SoC was really not blanced, I'm too rich all the time doh.gif
The first time I play ClearSky, I was stunned... WTH the bandage nad medkits are so expensive and scarce doh.gif ... Impressive balance, makes the gameplay very "frustrating" laugh.gif

ahh yes, SoC - that's what i should've called it. biggrin.gif SoC i like how the stones (can't remember the name) can up your stats, love the boost a lot. i don't see them in CS. sad.gif miss it.

Well, the "Soul" or "MeatChunk"? LOL I never use them cuz they caused bullet protection to fall... In CS, those things still remain, only with different names and design. Of course, the real issue is, "Can you FIND it?" LOL I love the artifact hunting idea of CS instead of just pick up on the road in SoC...

after going around so long i never found any artifacts. sad.gif i guess i suck. LOL. convenient mah found at road side, i remember having so many that i actually spent time to walk - rest - walk rest lugging them on multiple trips to have so much $$$$ in the end that i don't use.

i think the beauty of CS was that it's more interactive, you, the map, the people around. love the gun upgrades.

ouhh i love the night scenes even in SoC - i wish it was darker!

i love the textures and how the light is when the lights brighten and darken.

and i really love to play Stalker on rainy days. biggrin.gif outside rain just adds to the effect of the already rather rainy surrounding.

My Stalker Clearsky (Steam version) still has no voice over nor sound effects.

Using Asus Xonar D2X.

The only game that has an issue with my soundcard thus far.

Tried both.

And even use software mode, no avail.

cash is hard to come in this game ... and there are so many factors that u need to consider in the game like food ... fatigue ... extensive radiation which will eat up of hp LOL I am taking care of myself more than killing enemies ...

but heck good game la with all these makes it feel real! not like fallout 3 where u can run for days without rest

I need cash man ! all the freaking upgrades are so expensive ! and tools too mana can get tools?

Try Shadowgrounds.

It's not really scary but I reckon they have better AI than Doom 3. Enemies seem to enjoy stalking you and coming out of everywhere.

Now USD4.99 for the game and its standalone expansion.

Anyone here plays CoP with S.M.R.T.E.R.?

Adds more randomness in the game, Monolith showing up at Zaton/Creek, adds more mutant variation, and more mutant roaming.
There was a time where I went traveling at night, I hear sounds, turn my back, and saw a Chimera.

Oh, and anomalous area are more dangerous than before.

Too bad you need to restart the game from beginning to play the mod. sad.gif

Hello guys i dont want to bump the old STALKER thread and i have question about the mods for Shadow of Chernobyl.

I installed the STALKER Complete 2009 but now i want to try the LURK mod. I think that the stalker mods are overwriting the original game and each other, even my stalker in steam cannot boot in vanilla mode.

Anyway to restore the game beside running the installer all over again? I cannot simply switch back and forth between mods and vanilla game?

Hmm? Wasn't all Stalker Modes are saperated files (in "gamedata" folder) from the main game files? (From all the mods I ever played)

Just revert this code in fsgame.ltx from

$game_data$ = true| true| $fs_root$| gamedata\

to

$game_data$ = false| false| $fs_root$| gamedata\

Unsure abt the Steam version but you only need to change to fsgame.ltx.

The mods do not decompress and modify the original game files in any way. Rather the modders use a tool to decompress the game file and use the fsgame.ltx to load the files they've customized in gamedata instead.

Which i find absolutely wonderful for modding as you can do absolutely anything to the game without screwing anything up.

Well, yes. It basiclly tell the game NOT to read the [gamedata] folder. This is so far the best modding system I ever see, so convenient, never screw up the main game. Also can try tons of mods and mix and match them. If found anything wrong I can just delete that particular mod =D

What is your favourite loadout in the game?

For me, it has to be...

GP37 (looks like a G36)
Eliminator shotty

Other times (mostly at night) my loadout would be

Frazer (looks like a viper smg but got it from Nimble for 10k)
Storm with NVG scope

Share your fav weapon loadout... biggrin.gif

If you can find Strelok's rifle there's no need for any other primary gun except a sniper. It's so well all-rounded. Attachable grenade launchers and scope, very fast rate of fire, many recoil reducing upgrades, also good damage and accuracy.

Game also is pretty polished compared to the first two games. If you're looking for a single player FPS this certainly a must buy compared to the barrage of shitty SP alternatives out there (AVP, Modern Failure 2, etc)

STALKER TV Show Pilot Looks As Bleak As The Game

user posted image
QUOTE
Cult favourite PC shooter series STALKER is trying to earn itself a TV series deal, with the game's developers paying for the production of a pilot episode.

The show has been put together by a media outfit called Transvision, and as you'll see in the clip below, is doing a pretty good job of capturing the whole "sad men with guns hanging out in a desolate wasteland" thing the game series does so well.

STALKER developers GSC Game World tell Kotaku production of the pilot episode (from which all the footage in the preview clip below has been taken) has been entirely self-funded by the studio. Negotiations are currently underway with Russian and Ukrainian TV networks for a series deal, which if successful would see a full series produced and broadcast across the markets of the former Soviet Union. And if it's successful there? GSC say "we are interested in licensing the distribution rights to other territories, such as Western Europe, North America etc."

So we've got a TV show based on a game that was based on a 1979 movie which was based on a 1971 book. What's next? A musical?

Personally i really hate the camera type of RE now (thats the thing that make it hard), though somehow it's fun long long time ago, but i not enjoy it now =/

Stalker is pretty scary, even after play it several times it still pretty scary (assume if you pull the graphics all the way up of course). I never play any other difficulty other then the hardest lolz... you can imagine how many times i died within 5 minutes... xD

Hope there will be a next game, and WAY better in quality... (somehow Pripyat is way too silent -.-)

Let's Dress Like It's The End Of The World (And We're Playing STALKER)

user posted image

QUOTE
GSC Game World, developers of the cult PC shooter series STALKER, think there are people out there who would like to dress like someone who scrounges around in post-apocalyptic wastelands. So they've come up with an official line of STALKER clothing!

You can't buy any of these yet - GSC are just in the "prototype" stage, asking what fans think of the gear - but if there are enough die-hard fans to head out into the woods making their own STALKER-inspired clothing, surely there are enough who are happy to pay someone else to make it for them.

The line blends clothing that looks like it comes straight from the game with stuff that just looks...athletic with a STALKER logo on the front. Beats a line of Hot Topic shirts saying "I HEART CHERNOBYL", though!

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 features always on internet DRM

QUOTE
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is fairly early in development, but GSC Game World has announced that it would feature the dreaded "internet always on" DRM that has been inflicted on various games, like Assassin's Creed and Command & Conquer 4 in the past, and for the upcoming Diablo III.

According to GSC Game World head Sergey Grigorovich in a recent interview:

Protection from piracy? Part of the content will be located on the server and downloaded as the game progresses. Permanent internet access is required. Text information, code and quests will be loaded through that connection. Software piracy is an issue for us, we try to fight it, but within reason.

If people can not afford a licensed version, it is to our advantage if they download a pirated copy, and then want to buy a license. In Ukraine, there are different products that people love so much that they buy a license in principle. We want to create just such a product.

So far, only the PC version is confirmed. One might wonder if such a DRM will be included in a hypothetical Xbox 360 or PlayStation Network version.

I've lost respect for them. I want to be able to play it even if I'm offline especially when the line itself is unstable and prone to disconnections. The only reason not to buy S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 and it's a big one for me.

GSC responds to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 DRM outcry

QUOTE
When it was revealed yesterday that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 might have the dreaded DRM which requires the user to have a constant broadband connection, the reaction was predictably one of outrage.

GSC has responded to the outrage in a statement, blaming the high rate of piracy in Russia for their consideration of the controversial DRM for the shooter.

“The idea of implementing DRM came in as a possible anti-piracy solution. You know the severe level of commercial piracy we have here in ex-USSR region. This said however, there is no firm decision to go for DRM with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 as of now. Be assured, we do realize how uncomfortable this solution is for the players, so we’ll continue looking for most effective, yet acceptable for all, way of protecting the game by the time of its release.” read a statement from a spokesperson.

It seems that GSC referring to the DRM as a possible anti-piracy solution for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 may mean that they won't use it after all.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. dev: "There is cause for hope"
user posted image
QUOTE
Fans of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series were disheartened to learn that GSC Game World was shut down, with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 being cancelled in the process.

Those fans may have gotten a Christmas present from the Ukrainian developer, as the company tweeted, "Dear Stalkers: We will not be releasing any official news until around mid January. However there is cause for hope! Good hunting!"

One of the strongest rumors regarding the shutdown was that it was in response to an attempt by the Ukrainian government to take the developer over. Could this mean that studio head Sergei Grigorovich found a way to escape being acquired? Stay tuned.

Good news!

"The Stalker team is extremely happy! Why? Because we are continuing work on Stalker 2 after the holidays."

Damn, I really wanted to see STALKER 2...maybe it would have been bug-free.
I guess in the mean time while this is rather off topic, there is a new movie coming soon that should appeal to STALKER fans. xD

Question: I bought Stalker series during last summer sales on steam. Other setting than ALL LOW on graphic the game has terrible framerate. Anyone has any idea what happen? Even with everything low sometime also suffer framerate issue and I can absolutely positive that its not my rig problem, as I know my rig still can play most game today on MAX settings. Anyone know anything wrong? Is it graphic driver too new or something?

Hmm, at the beginning of Clear Sky, at their base during day time, my frame rate will drop below 60 even on a GeForce GTX 680 graphic card. I have to disable the AA feature in game. So at least for nVidia, I can confirm the new driver shouldn't be a problem as the game is performing as it should be.

The thing with this game is that it use dynamic lighting for the entire world and everything, this is something that many games don't do. Rather than setting all low, try just adjusting the dynamic lighting to static and see if it helps. Also ensure AA is turned off.

I been trying few trick. Except turn to Static lighting, the rest arent playable. But in static lighting the graphic make me wanna puke, even on high or max i get only par 30fps. ON static lighting, the graphic evenly with HL1 engine, I really cant play a modern game with this settings. I guess this is just another buggy european games, not that im suprise.

STALKER license acquired by bitComposer

QUOTE
For a while there, it seemed as if we’d seen the last of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series and its pesky punctuation. Since STALKER 2′s cancellation at GSC, with the developer turning their attentions to the similarly post-apocalyptic Survarium, the Zone seemed forever closed. Now, though, word comes through from bitComposer Games that they’ve obtained the license for further titles in the franchise.

“bitComposer Entertainment AG has acquired the exclusive worldwide rights for future video game adaptations of the acclaimed STALKER. brand from Boris Natanovich Strygatsky,” states the press release, curiously misspelling Boris Strugatsky’s name.

“STALKER is a reputable brand with a long history of success. To date, the series has sold many millions of units worldwide. Naturally, we’d like to tap into the success of this series, and we see a great deal of potential for the future.”

BitComposer are already familiar with the series, having handled European publishing for STALKER: Call of Pripryat. They also published this year’s Jagged Alliance remake, Back in Action.

The studio claims they will be releasing further details “shortly”.

Official note of GSC Game World

In view of the rumors appearing in press, we find it necessary to inform that GSC Game World and Sergey Grigorovich remain to be the sole owners of all the intellectual property rights to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game series and the brand overall, including all the trademarks, the game universe, the technology etc. This can be easily verified with the trademark services online.

Anyway, what happens to GSC, the boss, the property... It just hella mess and confusing. I rather not stepping into that confusing issue. Just let them be, just let them be.
