Info
Risen is a single-player fantasy-themed action role-playing game under development by the German company Piranha Bytes, and published by Deep Silver. Piranha Bytes itself is developing the Windows version, due to be released on October 2, 2009. The Xbox 360 port has been outsourced to an experienced console team under the close supervision of Piranha Bytes. IGN states that the North American and European release date of the Xbox 360 port has been delayed to "early 2010", hell yeah!! screw console fags!!. However, Amazon.co.uk lists the item as available as early as October 2.

after Witcher, i don't think i can go back to Gothic-style of combat anymore.. (running back & forth while slashing the sword wildly at the enemy laugh.gif )

From my judge. I gave this game 8/10 rating.

Gameplay: Combat is easy, but I still hate the combat system, gave it 6/10. World map is very poor. sad.gif
Graphics: Nice, well played on my low-end spec with acceptable 30FPS+. Looks nice when in deep thick jungle. smile.gif
Sounds: Nice soundtrack, voice is a "bit" irritating. sad.gif

It's annoying sweat.gif Side step is useless damn it. They aim you after your side step!! Blocking? No way man, they will unblock your shield!! Oh man...the only way is use arrow I think.

Oh by the way, the map is kinda useless I found. I don't any mark on the map for whatever place name not building name. How I know where those quest located at? Totally depend on dialogues?? sad.gif

There is no hand holding in German RPGs. They expect you to find everything by yourself without the aid of quest markers. Experienced Gothic players are used to this kinda system. Don't expect Oblivion style gameplay here. German role playing games are much more hardcore, made specifically for adults not kids.

Risen has considerably less bugs compared to Gothic 3. But in terms of gameplay, they're both similar.

I'd like to think of it as a spin off to the Gothic series since both were made by the same developers and Risen feels and plays just like Gothic hahaha albeit in a different setting and story.

Well I never play Gothic before. Maybe I expect too much for this game. It's quite challenging then, without any aid of accessories and etc.

Darn I feel like I am the victim in the storm just exactly as the main character in the game. Lost and helpless, haha.

Different type of mob or opponent require using different fighting style from what I observe. Side step is very effective while against boar. There actually quest marker when you open up the quest list and choose the appropriate map for the quest. Sometimes you do need to pay attention on the dialogues and the quest info, as well as location for map. If you dont mind running around, crossbow is quite a nice weapon in my opinion, and can instant kill at the last hit on human without knocking them down like using sword.

So far I completed 90% above the quests in bandit camp, meet with their Don, avoiding quests which will choosing side for the moment now 1st. Same goes to harbor town quest, majority complete beside those which will affect which side you siding, the order or the don. Also killed 95% of the guards in the town, left those only in god mode or with names. Current just reach the order's base and having couple of quests in hand.

Currently only got few spell lvl1 spell, where the jest spell is quite handy when aggro a few npc at the same time.

just finised the game yesterday..

I highly recommend this game. The things like in this game is..

1. Battle system this game battle system better than Oblivion.

u can feel attack at right timing and distance are important factor to pwn ur opponent.
oso u can control how much power u swing ur weapon and direction.. but only when higher weapon skill.
parry, counter parry, counter couter parry oso got doh.gif wtf..
its fun to watch final powerful blow and ur enemy fly
Blocking and dogde is important.

2. lvling up system is good. when u gain a level.. u got few learning point to spend on different sifu and different skill u want.

3. skill.. i feel so excited each time level i up the my sword skill.
the best part is when i learn sword skill lvl up 7 around. Cuz the sifu told me i can start using two-handed sword by one hand and other hand by use shield.
u can say it is payback time!! biggrin.gif

4. really going to die a lot of times even u set on EASY diffucult tongue.gif

5. openning some door in temple is challenging and didnt feel dizzy to me.

6. potion and selfmade food are useful.

only few things i hate..
1. stupid ending damn short.. and one ending only
2. at the end ur ultimate shiny armor, helmet n weapon just can onli hold within one hour. bcuz when i killed the boss n ending came up with credit.. there is no free roam or back to play side quest.

tips for who like to use sword

As I said, I never kill any npc with names in town. That particular farmer had name if I remember correctly and it now move into the motel thanks to me.

Currently sword lvl is at lvl7 and using the stormwind, which is the strongest I can find for now, require lvl2 smith to forge it. What the highest lvl when the game finished? Only 1 ending? Means joining the don or the inquisition makes no difference to the ending?

Yuka: that is the stormwind bastardd sword once forge up, attack power bout 60 to 70 if I remember correctly. Actually holding 2h sword on 1 hand start at lvl7, cause bastardd sword also is a type of 2h sword.

Berserker sword no nid reforge. Just plug and play tongue.gif
game maker should make this more difficult to get or forge.. a bit spoil the game at late game. its too strong when i got STR 100 around. Ashbeast just look like a wolf to me.. 2 elite lizard no need waste hp to kill them.

when i was using one hand sword and war shield duel with Ashbeast or Orge..can think this is a challenging game and excited.
Ashbeast roar when u neart it.. my hero oso a bit piss his pant.

as the game goes on, you will find ogre NPCs with whom you can interact. level 6 is still too fragile to roam the country-side. biggrin.gif

Actually at lvl6 there alot place where one can explore, just need to aware of what you can kill and what can kill you easily. Also if you want to explore and collecting plants more easier, disable the vegetation option in your performance settings, that make exploring alot easier.

With bow, I manage to kill quite a lot of melee type monsters. Such as the 3 little shorties, located nearby the bandit camp swamp. biggrin.gif

As in the cave nearby the swamp, when I go further down, I met a ghoul omg! 1 hit KO also. Shit~

Sometimes there will be bugs on the ghoul where when you shoot them from far distance, they will just remain on the spot and wont move, which I usually like to do that using crossbow. But do remember make a save before trying. As for the ghoul in the temple of the bandits, you can easily kill them using the terrain advantage, stand on high ground and shoot them from far using crossbow, where you can easily clear them in the early days.

You can set your view distance to high in settings option, and crossbow can be zoom too. If still really cant view them, just go down and let them spot you and turn and run, climb back up to the higher area and the ghouls wont able to get up to you. Then you can slowly torture them with your bow or crossbow, where I usually prefer crossbow. Just finish the game with mage, maybe will play again with warrior of the order or don side this time. This time wanna try out using axe.

Well ogre is one of the highest exp mob in the game, 300exp each kill. Only chapter 3,4 saurians can provide up to 320, 350exp per kill. So there definitely some difficulties when fighting them. But when you able to achieve around 100 str with better damage weapon, it can be take down with few charge attack, some tactics on melee combat will be require for it, just like facing ash beast.

Risen 2: Dark Waters sets sail for Steamworks

user posted image

QUOTE
Piractical action-RPG sequel Risen 2: Dark Waters will use Steamworks for its copy protection on PC, publisher Deep Silver has announced. It'll be the only DRM used in both retail and digital copies.

Being a Steamworks games means that all copies of Risen 2 bought anywhere other than Steam, whether retail or digital, will need to be activated on a Steam account to play. After that, you won't need your discs, CD key, or anything again, as it'll be tied to that Steam account. Permanently tied. In return, you'll get auto-updating, achievements, and all Steam's other fancy features.

Deep Silver explained that it has "diligently reviewed many solutions in the last couple of years," judged by the following criteria:

Security: The copy protection scheme in question has to be very secure for the customer as well as the publisher.

Compatibility: The technology has to be compatible with all hardware components out there.

Comfort: The protection has to add value to the player aside to its protective behaviour.

Support: The technology has to provide us the means to help customers if the product is not behaving in the expected manner.

Reliability: The scheme has to be proven stable over multiple years and many products.

Risen 2: Dark Waters is developed by Piranha Bytes, the studio which created Gothic and made the first three games in the fantasy RPG series--not ArcaniA: Gothic 4. It'll swashbuckle onto PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Keep your eyes on the horizon, as there's no sign of a release date yet.

Risen 2 Gamescom teaser released

user posted image

QUOTE
Deep Silver has released the teaser trailer for Risen 2: Dark Waters, and the press release is pretty raunchy.

To wit, the presser announces:

Listen, people. Here's some sh-- I love about this game:

1. YOU CAN LAUNCH PARROTS AT PEOPLE/CREATURES TO ANNOY THE F--K OUT OF THEM. That alone makes this like the greatest game ever to me. Any way that I can irritate and annoy more than usual is cool with me!
2. Yes, you can throw coconuts too. LOLZ
3. According to this trailer, the main character at some point gets in deep shit due to inappropriate behavior. Again, inappropriate behavior is definitely approved.
4. You get companion NPCs! This is super fun, and OMG I WISH I COULD TELL YOU (I can't) but there is at least one companion NPC that I can't wait to talk about and I am literally soiling myself over.

With that incredible informality, here's the trailer in the video below.

Risen 2 to ship 1m in early 2012

QUOTE
Publisher Deep Silver will be shipping 1 million copies of Risen 2 from Piranha Bytes when it releases early next year, as they invest "more than ever" in the IP.

The high ratings for the Risen 2 trailer "shows the expectations" fans have of the sequel, which introduces pirates. It's had "parallel development" for platforms.

"We are investing more than ever before in the Risen brand," said Deep Silver's Georg Larch. "Even the trailer is already rated with 9.4 of a possible 10 points on Gametrailers.com, which shows the expectations about the title."

Risen 2 is set several years after the first.

Titans have royally screwed up the world and humanity is barely holding on. As the hero we must set out and as a member of the Inquisition and try to set things right. Much like the first game, player choices affect the story and our character's development.

"Together with a highly interactive environment and a full day/night-cycle affecting countless aspects of the game world, Risen 2 will be set in the most immersive RPG game world so far." German studio Piranha Bytes is behind the new RPG series.

Risen 2 releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in early 2012. "We now have a parallel development on three major platforms from the beginning and it is obvious that this will bring a better result," said Risen brand manager Daniel Oberlechner. No cheap ports.

Risen 2 - No Mod tools, but DLC a possibility

QUOTE
Deep Silver has confirmed that there will not be any mod tools for their upcoming action/RPG Risen 2: Dark Waters, but when it came to the possibility of DLC, they were remarkably coy.

Senior Brand Manager Daniel Oberlerchner said that unfortunately the team was too small to be able to devote the time and resources needed to be able to do proper mod tools:

"...that's the challenge with mod tools - to make them accessible, but also to make them so that gamers can modify them to such a (big) extent."

As for DLC plans however, Oberlerchner wouldn't say anything to confirm or deny, only stating that if they were to do DLC, it would have to be significant.

"It's ok to have like new items and stuff, but it's important to also deliver content, and we don't just mean one mission, two missions... for us it would need to be at least a new island, a new quest hub, maybe multiple islands..."

Risen 2: Dark Waters is due out on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC, with the console version being worked on by a separate studio. It is due for release early-mid 2012.

Risen 2: Dark Waters pre-orders get "Treasure Isle" DLC free

user posted imageuser posted image
QUOTE
Deep Silver has announced a special pre-order bonus for anyone that purchases the RPG Risen 2: Dark Waters before its release at the end of April.

"Treasure Isle" is the free DLC that will be given to pre-order customers, which is valued at £8.00 / 800 Microsoft Points. Players will embark on a new quest to uncover Captain Steelbeard's legendary treasure, which continues a plot element from the first Risen game.

The story of the DLC revolves around Harlok, a cook on Steelbeard’s ship Elenor, who stole the secret clues that lead to the pirate captain’s hidden treasure. However it is only with the help of the player that Harlok is able to find it.

This quest will take the hero and Patty, Steelbeard’s daughter, to an unknown island that offers new environments to explore with many puzzles to solve, treasures to loot and mysteries to unravel. The player will discover a legendary item (only available in this DLC) - offering his character a permanent stat boost.

Risen 2: Dark Waters will be released for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC in April 2012.

Risen 2 release date set for April

user posted image
QUOTE
Pending unscheduled Kraken attacks, the swashbuckling sequel, Risen 2, will hit shores on April 27. The pirate ArrrrPG will have guns, exotic monsters and plenty of sunshine, but there’s some serious pedigree behind it. It’s made by Piranha Bytes, the chaps behind the Gotchic series (before it was handed off to Spellbound with Arcania: Gothic 4). It’s set in a series of archipeligos plagued by sea monsters and bandits, and it looks very shiny indeed. Check out the recent Risen 2 screenshots for a look at Risen 2′s lush jungle islands.

lol..i thought u quit oredi tongue.gif

here's the thing - the game autoplay start like any other disc-base game...that is where it asked for the code before the installation begun. for the dlc - i don't know or see where i can click to install it or get a screen to prompt me for the codes...

as i mentioned before - ingame menu, there is a menu for Extra - DLC. but it directs me to Steam page with requirement to download the dlc by paying it with RM.

i checked both the CDs content and neither has a folder that is named after those dlc or with any files that resembles it...all it has is just csd, csm file format... rclxub.gif

i don't think you can activate the DLC code in-game. the one in the game will open the Steam Store.

how you activate the game on you Steam client btw?

i wont call it the Steam key...since the code comes from the back of the manual...so...yeah it asked for the code and i just key it in...and confirm the installation folder...which is the same folder where all the steam game are installed by default..

for the DLC code, try this:

1. On your Steam client, go to Games > Activate a Product On Steam

2. A window will pop up. Kepp pressing next until this window shows up

3. Enter the DLC code and click next. If nothing goes wrong, it will say the the DLC for the game is activated.
