im looking for a router OR a way to play WOW without high latency becoz they're few internet users on my net.they use it to download stuff and all left for me is 100Kbps.im using 1Mb..need guide n help! i tried some of the net limiter software but i dont understand any of it..need guidance..im noob

i think u cant unless u got a hi tech router which is pricey that have that kind of function..or iptable(in linux) (not sure tho, just i think i read somewhere)

It's true. There is not much you can do. Even if you want to install a limiter, you would need to set up a PC as a firewall for incoming traffic which means you'd have to buy another PC (Cheap one also can). All you can really do is talk to your housemates and ask them not to download, especially torrents. Torrent downloads take up a lot of processing power from your router and eat up the bandwidth as well.

Sounds cheaper to get a separate line for your gaming needs.

hmm i read about some routers that have QOS function (which i dont understand, but i think its a bandwith controler function) its DLINK DGL 4100 n 4300...they said that that routers can prevent lagness when downloading

QOS or Quality of Service is a method by which a router sets priority for certain traffic over other types of traffic. Unfortunately, QoS routers are usually above the average price of a normal router and unless you know how to set your QoS rules (port settings and such) you may end up limiting your own traffic. Plus there are a few P2P programs out there that are designed to beat QoS monitoring and if your housemates are using those programs, well, your screwed.

go to port foward page and enable only basic and wow port range, turn off other non standard port range for *cough* torr..*cough* *cough*..rent *cough* *cough*

do it secretly...
