erlow guys...

recommend me a headphone:
have to be able to be well driven without the need of an amp.
1st priority = comfort
2nd priority = sound quality
sound signature preference = balanced but with punchy bass
music i listen to = rock, r&b, vocal
budget = RM400

recommend me another one: (earphone or headphone)
this is for exercising/jogging
1st priority = secure fit
2nd priority = good comfort level
budget = RM150

thanks!

hi,
would like to open a new thread but i think i should give it a shot here first
need a good recommendation here (so no promotional post but no real input please, Mr E1-akg rolleyes.gif )

I need a pair of real FORGIVING earbud/portable headphone.. NO IEM plz
would prefer earbud over portable headphone but i dont really mind..

it must be forgiving coz im buying it for my girlfren which happen to hv
really-really-really bad quality mp3s on her library.. (some even lower than 128kbps doh.gif )
i just need something that offers more than stock earbud but at the same time allow her to enjoy her music
she's no audiophile, neither am I so price to performance ratio is a priority

Ive been thinking:
1) yuin pk3
2) yuin pk2
3) senn px100-II
4) senn px200-II
5) senn mxl-560

i just need to know which one of them (or add to the list) is really forgiving + musical...

all of them slightly out of my budget which cost more m500+-

any model to introduce?if m50 compare with the following model u mention above...will it win them in performance?
i thought u stated ur budget is rm1000 sweat.gif
for rm 500, to be used in noisy environment and portable
mind i suggest u to try In ear monitor(IEM)?
there is an IE7 for sale here or IE8 here
its more than 1 year old for the ie7 but if u do some researching ull know its a good deal coz the brand new price is rm1000+
ie8 is more bass oriented than ie7 and its rm1400+ new

M50 is not designed for portable use, if u want to know whether something is designed for portable or not
juz look at the cable length.
and its slightly big to be a portable sweat.gif

all that said its a great bang for the buck i believe (the m50), designed for monitoring use, so i guess the sound signature would be as neutral as possible..
ive never heard its sound so cant comment much

i see, do you know where i can get it done?
if u are confident of ur Kemahiran Hidup skills brows.gif
heres a thorough guide
the parts can be found at Jalan Pasar...
else, juz take a look at the DIY recablers at the garage sale music related function and ask them to change the plug

yea my initial budget is rm1000+- but those model listed cost a price MORE rm500+- which eventually cost around rm1500+- so it is a lil out of my budget

i prefer overhead headphone cause i own a ie8...thanks for ur recommendation...
*

gratz bro for setting ur next target..
haha u wont regret it
but please be patient on the shipping time

it normally take about 2 weeks
but mine arrived after 3 weeks of ordering
but sony ericsson is very helpful and will update u all the way..

the price changes from time to time due to fluctuations in japanese yen against ringgit so please ask him for latest quotation

i havent got the chance to try it outside yet, (got it just last friday)
but it is closed and block good amount of noise leaking in and out
but i dont think i would beat IEM in terms of isolation

no it doesnt need an amp, period
u can enjoy what it can offer without it

however, it still will scale well with a desktop amp
cant tell you much, my desktop amp coming next week then i can tell u

please keep in mind i didnt buy the amp for the es10,
it is strictly to be enjoyable out of a portable digital audio player

juz want to add on the whole amp thing
this is just my opinion of course

if you are contemplating on getting an portable amp to improve SQ on low to mid class cans, please be aware that the difference it would make would be at best, very minimal..
sure some amp can add its own flavoring to the sound, and it can breath new life to some cans by adding to the sound what the headphone is lacking in (so called synergy effect)..

but if u think about the long run, its better to save up and go for high end cans + desktop amp combo... and yeah, dont forget a better DAC than the stock onboard computer...

QUOTE(adrian7386 @ Mar 21 2010, 01:17 PM)
can es10 close up all the ear when we put in?it supposed to be a closed can rite?
*
closed back headphones does not mean its circumaural (hp pad sit AROUND your ears)
it means exactly as what towkey said, and it can be either be circumaural or supraaural(hp pad sits ON your ear)
the circumaural vs supraaural is really a comfort factor (however one is not necessarily better than the other)

generally though circumaural is more comfortable (doesnt touch ur ears at all)
although the es10 is supraaural, comfort is good nonetheless for me.. thanks to the soft soft pads..
slight pressure on the upper part of my right ear that makes it slightly uncomfortable for long use but nothing too major, i just make slight shift here and there and it is good to go.. im too distracted by the music anyway wink.gif
again ur mileage might vary, my left ear is fine and i didnt notice any pressure there..

to put that into perspective, I had a sennheiser HD555 (open back, circumaural) but the clamping pressure from the headphone really hurts my head
took some time to get used to it and i even stretch the headphone by putting two pillow between it when im not listening to it.. no such problem with the es10... and i also love the SQ i got from hd555 also.. particularly jazz.. yumm yummm
so yeah.. comfort has many factors in it.. many swears that the senn px100(supraaural) is superbly comfortable and u can forget that it is there

the closed vs open is just for noise isolation vs more realistic sound projection (open headphone tend to have better soundstage, because the sound can escape to open air instead of being bounced back to the ear)
but in all honesty, u already sacrificed that part of the sound by going to headphones instead of speakers so does it really matter? haha
sound isolation wise, a custom IEM would trounce all for obvious reason
i would say, custom IEM> active NC headphone = universal IEM> closed headphones

kthxbye

nah, best sound isolation is still universal IEM like those etymotic IEMs. custom IEM usually had around 26dB isolation, the etys have more. active noise cancelling usuallu aren't as good as isolation counterparts as well.
*
true true..

how can i forget theres universal with deep insertations like etys.. sweat.gif

hi there, just wanna find out which is suitable for all round usage.. mainly home recording, and listening to music.

currently leaning towards ath m30 or shp8900. i understand that they are inherently different, with one being closed and the other open.

i've heard good things about the philip's soundstage, but at moderate volumes, how bad is the leakage?

in terms of comfort which is the better of the two?

feel free to recommend other headphones withing the m30 and shp8900 price range.

thanks!
*
it would be hard to find a person who have both mentioned headphones to compare the comfort.. sweat.gif
but you can ask moniqee what she think bout the ath m30 as i believe she once had/ still have it..
