Guys, between AD500 vs Grado SR60i which ones I should get? I'm looking for open cans headphone. But I do appreciate good bass although I don't expect them to be as good as closed/bass headphones. I want wide soundstage, clear on mid & high, but also some punch in low & bass. Or should I go for AD700 vs Grado SR80i/125i? Which one?

If you want wide soundstage, you can cross Grado's off your list.... AFAIK Grado soundstage is narrow/personal and upfront smile.gif

i have been thinking of buying a steelseries siberia neckband headset, but cani have your opinions that does it worth to buy if it is only used for music instead of playing games...i am not a gamer
*
IMO, it's not worth it as the siberia steelseries are not meant for music....use the money and get a pair of cans that are dedicated for music smile.gif

i've tried the siberia during the pcfair, it is so comfortable and nice, just fit to my head, i wish to have a headset can be that comfortable to me. are there any good recommendations if i don't buy the siberia?
*

I believe akg, beyer, sennheiser and audio technica make some awesome cans that are both comfortable and good for music.

Maybe u could state ur budget and genre of music u listen to for better recommendations smile.gif

Hi guys, what sort of headphones would u recommend for a budget of rm400? I'd prefer a full-sized headphone, but hopefully it wont be hard to drive, would be better if it doesnt require an amp to show it's potential. main usage (in fact, the only usage) is for music. was looking at the grado sr80i, but it's a supra-aural headphone, and it probably needs an amp to drive it well.. cry.gif
thanks in advance! notworthy.gif

Audio TEchnica AD300
Audio Technica A300
Grado SR60
Alessandro MS1

^^ the headphone that doesnt require amp is Audio Technica... which is famous for not requiring an amp...
*
The Ms1 doesn't require an amp as it's extremely easy to drive smile.gif sr80's shd be similar though I haven't tried one personally
For a budget of rm400, if you enjoy rock, and don't mind the up front and narrow soundstage, i strongly recommend Ms1 smile.gif

i listen to oldies a lot, so there's a lot of vocal involved. i've considered the sr60 (and the ms1) since there's so much positive reviews for the grado. prob is, they're supra-aural (on the ear) headphones, which i just cant get used to. sad.gif but still, i might just give it a try. anyway, i cant find any info for the A300. are u sure it's the correct model? thanks for ur suggestions! notworthy.gif

Added on January 1, 2010, 8:07 pmhmm, decided that i might just give the grados and alessandros a try. really like the old-skool look even though it's supra-aural.
@duh2k: i'm pretty much a noob in this section... when u say up front and narrow soundstage, does it mean that it feels as if the band is playing very close right in front of me? sort of like listening to a small speaker which is very close in front me? sorry for the noob question.. sweat.gif
*
i admit the first time i had my ms1, it was a little uncomfortable....but i got used to it + the pads softened...i can use em for abt 2hrs plus b4 my ears get fatigued smile.gif

yeah that's a good analogy...imagine u're at the front row of a band...to some, that'll make the music seem bright and fatiguing....to me, i'd like to think of it as having the singer personally singing to me wink.gif

but all being said and done, do give the cans that moniqee recommended an audition, then you'll know what suits ur ears smile.gif

waaahhh... naik banyak pulak tu... hmm, either way, rm280 is not that expensive. now waiting for walabies' pm. biggrin.gif thanks moniqee!

umm, i have another question for everyone. According to most websites, open-air headphones should provide a very good soundstage. Wide soundstage with good separation of the instruments. that's what they say with the AD300. However, this does not seem to be the case with the grados and alessandros. They're famous for their open-air headphones, yet they're also famous for the narrow soundstage. Is it because of the size of the cans? i mean, their headphones aren't as big as full-sized headphones, thus the narrow soundstage? hmm.gif
*
well, open back cans have better soundstage as compared to their closed backed brethren (we're talking same models here) .... but open back =/= big soundstage....soundstage also depends on the headphone smile.gif
i think the sifu's here can give a more detailed explanation as to what gives a pair of cans an awesome soundstage

My playlist consists of Alternative Rock, Pop/Rock, and electronics mostly. Hope MS1i would cater these brilliantly.
*
Shouldn't be a problem...ms1 is a really fun pair of headphones....i got mine w/o auditioning, and based on the recommendation of walabies...never looked back since and i listen to pop, rock, instrumental smile.gif

Hmm... guys, a noob question here if u dont mind... which will improve a headphone the most (assuming similar price and performance): Amp, DAC or soundcard? hmm.gif
*
Source is the most impt....if your source is crap, you can have the best headfi/hifi setup and it'll still sound like crap....rmb, garbage in, garbage out smile.gif

Would the Fiio actually bring up much bass to ON3?

Actually I am liking with Senn PX100-II, Grado S60i, Grado S80i and MS1i.

Which would be better with soundstage, clarity and bass?

Thanks
*
This requirement already rules out Grado or Alessandro laugh.gif
go with our other choices if soundstage is a must smile.gif

If I'm not mistaken the price of PK1 should be around RM550. Shouldn't be a prob using it without amp.
*
erm....AFAIK pk1's need an amp to sound their best...it's hard to drive for an earbud smile.gif

guys, does SR80i from grado labs need to drive by amp?
*
sr80i is similar to alessandro ms1...no they do not require an amp to be driven, they can be driven straight out of a walkman or ipod smile.gif
